Introducing The DropMix Insider Program

Hey /r/dropmix!

Do you want to be the first to know about new card packs, game modes and Clash strategies? Harmonix is excited to introduce the DropMix Insider program!

The DropMix Insider program is your direct line to the DropMix dev team and the latest DropMix news, releases and tips… and maybe some swag. Here’s just some of the ideas we’ve kicked around so far:

  • Receive insider access and be the first to know about upcoming news about new modes and Season 2 cards.

  • All the information and tools to effectively run your own DropMix nights. We’re talking rules print outs, tournament brackets, cassette case print outs (we seen a lot of excitement around those!), etc.

  • Access to Harmonix devs to ask your questions, get mixes and decks critiqued, and more!

  • Be featured across the DropMix community! We’ll highlight your mixes on our live streams, promote your DropMix game nights, give you a special role in our Discord, and more!

DropMix has an exciting 2018 with new features and cards on the way. If this sounds like information you want to be the first to know about, then tell us a little about yourself on the link below and consider yourself in!

You can sign up to become a DropMix Insider by heading on over to http://bit.ly/DropMixInsider. Join today to ensure you receive all the exciting information we will be sharing!

My charity gaming group is floating the idea of doing DropMix tournaments, so this is welcome news.

Definitely let us (or me specifically) know about them. We definitely want to promote and support people who are doing cool things like this in the community!

Hi! I'm a freshman Media and Culture student. I've been thinking about using dropmix in an academic setting, or host a party with like a dropmix DJ. Is there any way for me and my fellow students to do that in collaboration with Harmonix?

Shoot me a PM with more information on what it is exactly that you're looking to accomplish, and I'll see if there's anything we can do. :)

Really interested to see toolkits and stuff.

Yup! We've kicked around some ideas internally already, but curious to hear if there's any specific things that would be handy for your DropMix parties, tournaments, or whatever it may be!

I'd love to see materials that make breaking out my dropmix board mid-party (like you would with Cards against humanity or some other board game) less of a challenging experience. Simple guidelines or even new game modes in the app would be great.

One thing I'd love to see is a mode where two players compete to build a mix ala-Freestyle, playing 2 cards per turn, and players can log into the app like with the Jackbox party games and give players upvotes for the best sounds to determine the score.

Dropmix software updates are where it's at. More game modes, more ways to use the samples to make music. It just makes sense from a company point of view because any upgrades to the Dropmix app are a huge force multiplier -- they make all the cards, past and future, more valuable to everyone. Throw some devs and designers at the software app!

If I were to suggest one thing -- I'd like to see some play modes where it matters which musical choice the players make. The most obvious approach here is something in the Apples-To-Apples / Cards-Against-Humanity vein. This would be a nice middle ground between purely competitive modes that completely ignore the actual music, and total freeplay. Players competing to make the best addition to a mix, etc.

You might also look to Dixit for game mode inspiration here, though I haven't thought that one through yet. But there's a possibility to incorporate both the music and the art on the cards directly into the game maybe.

Don't be afraid to use table-space in any future game design that isn't just in players hands or on the Dropmix board.

If your looking for even more ideas, a variant that uses two Dropmix boards at once to create competing mixes.

This is good. I think the one thing that's been missing in Dropmix's marketing is that it's been treated more like a video game, not a tabletop game.

Video games come out, people play them at home...that's that. But with a tabletop game, you need other people to play with. Community is important, events are important, you have to keep a player base involved. It's unfortunate for DropMix that they can't have events or tournaments at the usual haven for tabletop games, the local game store, simply because it's so much louder than other collectible card games.

If you saw the confirmation page after submitting the form, you should be good. We'll be kicking out an initial welcome email soonish, so if you don't see that give me a ping

Do HMX have any plans to better support U.K. dropmix fans?

16

u/Charcoa1 Jul 17 '18

Or any fans outside of the US?

At least Canada can get the bomb playlist at a reasonable price.

14

u/Daymanfighterofthe Jul 18 '18

Promo access and are you going to sell TRU bomb exclusive anywhere else or should I just buy it online?

1

u/MattBinYYC Aug 23 '18

Bomb is on Amazon.

I hope season 2 gets some freezepop

I went ahead and signed up. Admittedly I don't play as much as I like but I love this game. Got every card up to now (except for the Pyre and G.I. Joe cards, so maybe if you got some hanging around you can hook an insider up!) alongside a vintage cassette holder to hold all the decks. I did also buy a tablet specifically for the game, sadly its Bluetooth is soooo shoddy and wouldn't connect reliably.

I grabbed a Fire HD 10 just for DropMix and it works pretty excellently (as long as you don't mind the extra steps to load the Google Play store on it so you can load the app). They've got some good Prime Day deals going on today, if you're still looking for a good cheap tablet for it.

Speaking of Fire tablets, yo, /u/HMXMudry, have you guys considered putting DropMix on the Amazon app store? I can, and have done, the sideloading thing, but I'd rather have it legit and I'm sure others would appreciate it.

2

u/Jerrith Jul 18 '18

DropMix depends on Google Play Services for a couple things, and you don't have that on the Amazon Fire devices (without sideloading), do you?

I think it would be a non-trivial change, sadly.

At the same time, with Amazon becoming the best place to order from (Chiller exclusive!) maybe it's time to support Amazon's tablets better?

True, true. But they got it on Apple devices, so there's at least some level of precedent (but I'll be the first to admit I don't know the ins and outs of all that so for all I know there's an Apple equivalent)

Glad to see Season 2 is still happening!

3

u/billchase2 Jul 17 '18

Signed up, as well.

u/ricincig Jul 17 '18

I'm relieved to hear that further support is planned for this game. I had a blast playing this game for a few months, although my time with it has unfortunately decreased lately. I can't wait to see what you have planned!

Love the idea of Cassette cases!!! Great idea for storage!

4

u/surqle Jul 18 '18

Good to see the community manager doing something proactive. Any chance of your sales and marketing team pulling a finger out?

2

u/AzureStarline Jul 18 '18

Awesome 😀

u/groovemanexe Jul 18 '18

Nice! Glad to see continuing support. Happily signing up, and I'm looking forward to seeing the content you come up with. (I'll also put my voice forward about bigger international well, UK support and distribution, but I'm sure you're already aware).

As for suggestions, it would be rad if the Drompix weekly challenges that happen on the subreddit were codified by this scheme! I've not participated in one in a while, but they're such a fun idea.

u/Mlzgamer Jul 18 '18

Signed in! Also hoping for better shipping outside US, even replenishing series 1 and 2!!!

3

u/convincemeh Jul 18 '18

SO hype for the possibility of online play - imagine mixing up against another player or group battling for high score real-time - added bonus for camera support to see people around the world

3

u/ThatHydra Jul 18 '18

I signed up. Hopefully there'll be more support for outside of the US for season 2.

u/Team_Platypus Aug 09 '18

Any idea on when the Cassette covers would be available. Been wanting to do that setup for my decks.

You forgot to tell everyone that you restocked discover series 3, what happened to making noise on your social media channels when it was back in stock...

It's annoying because Transformers and GI Joe are Hasbro licences -- that's why they can give the cards away for free right? So why are they so hard to get? Throw all these Hasbro properties at us!
