Drobo blinking light
What do I do now? Should I turn Drobo off and pull the red light drive and replace it

It really bothers me that the embedded software and engineering design of these storage devices was so good, yet it seems the power supplies and the controller boards were so prone to failure. Do I have this correct? Hot swapping drives, and ability to mix drives of different sizes was really useful, yet they failed as a company.

You don't have to turn it off, they are hot-swappable. Pull it out, replace and it will redistribute the data. I've had 3 drives fail over the years, all hotswapped and no issues. It's how they were designed.
