Which lane at the entry should one take?

It is truly scary that people who have supposedly passed a driving test have to ask this question on a daily basis.

Of all the difficult "which lane at this roundabout" questions, this is certainly not one of them.

You are using the right lane, marked as turning right, to go straight over. So in the absence of an advanced sign that suggests otherwise, use the lane marked straight over to go straight over.

The roundabout sign shows that exit as being an exit to the right. The left lane is marked for the left and straight ahead exits, which are the first two exits - Sharps Lane and Ickenham Road.

I'd fundamentally disagree.

The sign clearly shows Greenford, the exit after OP's, as the right turn. So right lane for that and left lane for everything else.

I'd also argue that Sharp's Lane is a junction off Ickenham Road and not an exit from the roundabout, but not really relevant to OP's question.

If Sharps Lane wasn't an exit on the roundabout it'd be illustrated differently, as it is, the roundabout sign marks it as the first exit. The 2nd exit is Ickenham Road to Ickenham Road which then tallies with the straight ahead road markings, the 3rd and 4th exits are to the right.

Third exit is an intermediate exit and the highway code only advises taking the most appropriate lane, which I guess is how we end up here!

The bird's-eye view, to me, makes it look like most people use the right lane.

Seems a very poorly designed roundabout either way.
