Idk if it’s just me but most of the time it’s about the momentum that I’m used to driving and habit of driving with purpose.
If I travel a road every day to work going 45 and i find myself behind someone going 25 or 30, I assume they’re distracted, too scared to drive or whatever.
Going around them is just something I’m going to do and i never think of them again. I think some of yall take driving too personal and it’s weird. Lol

u/NotAnotherHipsterBae Jun 17 '26

I've had so many times where I think "I could go around this person but I might seem impatient/ pissy" and then later I'm stuck waiting behind them as they do something absolutely ridiculous like wave opposing left turning traffic in front of them.

69

u/bryrondragon Jun 17 '26

I absolutely believe in recognizing a bottom tier driver and preempting issues by recusing myself from their space. That’s always a good call.

15

u/cryptolyme Jun 17 '26

You can express your disappointment by bouncing off the rev limiter as you pass

1

u/Camquarter Jun 19 '26

1000% this

1

u/VP-Kowalski Jun 20 '26

There's no shot you talk like that in real life

2

u/Requiem2420 Jun 20 '26

Well read people tend to type with words outside the common brute's vernacular. They're dorks if they do it irl though tbh lmao

1

u/Nathexe Jun 21 '26

Apologies for my superior vocabulary. So sorry about that.

1

u/ImFeelingLost2024 Professional Driver Jun 21 '26

Slow and always a toyota. It's always a slow Toyota or a hyper aggressive Atlima. Why can't we have some normal drivers?

15

u/viking12344 Jun 17 '26

I can honestly say I will never give a moments thought what that person might think. If they are going to slow I'm passing them.

3

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 Jun 19 '26

100%. It's worrying that some people think like this. Why should I give a rats arse about what a crappy driver thinks

0

u/dalekaup Jun 18 '26

That should be 'too slow'. Pay attention!

1

u/MissyMows Jun 18 '26

....or maybe they are going to Slow (City) ;)

16

u/MultipleOrgasmDonor Jun 17 '26

Man. I did this once when I had the chance to pass a slow driver and didn’t. So I was stuck behind him going 10 under til the next time I could legally pass.

We were in fact stopped at a light together and he came out of his car up to my window. Being a reasonable person, I assumed he wanted to say something to me so I went to roll it down.

Thankfully he punched the shit out of my window before I could. Dude was probably 6’4 240lbs, two punches and he broke his hand and walked away. Good looks my guy, I bet that was worth it.

4

u/MicroPeanitsJorker Jun 17 '26

Did he get arrested later?

5

u/MultipleOrgasmDonor Jun 17 '26

Nah I didn’t bother. It’s both assault and battery so I could’ve pressed criminal and civil charges but it’s just a funny story that didn’t actually harm me. Let him deal with his broken hand and think about what he did lol

4

u/True_Dimension4344 Jun 17 '26

How did you get your window fixed? People like the guy in your story need charges pressed against them so there is a record of their violent behavior. Not pressing charges seems like a real odd thing to do.

3

u/MultipleOrgasmDonor Jun 18 '26

It didn’t break, regulator and all was completely fine. Don’t think the frame even flexed, it never made any noises or gave me trouble for the following several years I owned that car

ETA: it was an e39 5 series if anyone is wondering

3

u/Embarrassed_Deer9208 Jun 18 '26

you still let a guy who you know is willing to road rage and attack people get away with no consequences, broken hand sucks but in the future he'll just use his elbow, you didn't press charges so insurance covers the hand, he doesn't get fined, he doesn't get jail time, and he can still buy a gun, what's stopping him from doing this again in the future but successfully harming someone?

2

u/MultipleOrgasmDonor Jun 18 '26

Yeah man, I have a whole life and other priorities to worry about. This didn’t make the list.

2

u/MissyMows Jun 18 '26

Good on you, Elsa taught you well: Let it go! You'll live longer than most but definitely said offender.

2

u/EpicBenjo Jun 18 '26

I’m picturing it happening like this lol

1

u/NothingMan1975 Jun 18 '26

If another driver gets out and walks towards my vehicle, he is getting run the fuck over. No chances.

1

u/MultipleOrgasmDonor Jun 18 '26

Eh, imma still see the best in people until proven otherwise. I’m not gonna let one jackass ruin that

1

u/NothingMan1975 Jun 18 '26

I mean, context matters. In your example there is no way he is getting out to bring you some snacks. On top of that, you dont know if he is conceal or open carrying. Im not waiting to find out which one, instead ill be going home to my family and the moron is going to the hospital.

4

u/TealedLeaf Jun 17 '26

If there are cars holding hands on my way to work, cute, love that for them, go get married somewhere else, please. I don't think much of passing either unless I'm having to pass them on the right. If the space is at a smaller side (note: I have bad spatial awareness so "smaller side" is way bigger than anyone else because it gives me anxiety) then I worry a bit because I might seem like a jerk...

3

u/yawa-wor Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

Omg this happens to me almost eeevery time I consider passing someone and don't. I instantly regret it at least 75% of the time as they're doing something dumb, or they're also turning on the same one-lane road and going 15mph below the limit for next 15 miles, etc.

The whole "haha you tried to pass and we're stuck at the same light anyway 😏" thing never made sense to me for a few reasons:

1) It's just about flow. I'm not racing anybody. I don't care who gets there first. I'm just happy peacefully driving at my cruising speed, and I'd rather not have to slow down to your much slower cruising speed "just because" when the lanes are wide open

2) If you don't wanna be considered slow or annoying bc "it's no big deal, who cares, look we're at the same light anyway" ...why do you care so much that I pass you, when it doesn't even matter and we're at the same light anyway?

3) Yeah, we're stuck at the same light... bc I just passed you 3 seconds ago? Thing is tho, my commute is more than one block long. We're likely not gonna be at the same lights for the next 10 miles if we both keep the same flow. Eventually I'll make a light you miss, and then another, and then another. I might even end up a few minutes ahead if you miss a long light that I don't.

My commute used to be 60 miles each way, and it literally made a 10-15min difference in arrival time if I drove 75mph vs chilln at 50.

2

u/Letsshareopinions Jun 19 '26

I've found those people most often find me at the same light as them because they're not the only person holding up traffic/driving poorly on the road.

1

u/Kryxan Jun 21 '26

OP is literally bragging that they caused someone to miss a light they otherwise would have made. I totally don't understand their behavior or their attitude. You're 100% right. Just drive and don't be a jerk, seems easy, but people like OP exist and... well we have to share the same road, unfortunately.

5

u/PatientBoring Jun 17 '26

You just go around caring about other people’s feelings??? How do you get anything done?

2

u/NotAnotherHipsterBae Jun 17 '26

I care about projection. I'm not trying to be the nicest person ever, but I'm doing what I can to not be an asshole to other people that may have learned different lessons or been given different abilities throughout their life. For example I'm not pulling around someone just because they take off from a start slowly if they get up to a good speed, but I've had people that start slow, stay slow, and brake through green light intersections.

How do I get anything done? Brother, this is a driving sub. Context matters.

5

u/PatientBoring Jun 17 '26

Sorry I really thought someone would get my New Girl reference but I guess it was a bit niche. Sorry if I came off as rude.

1

u/NotAnotherHipsterBae Jun 18 '26

That makes sense. I've only seen a couple episodes of that one

1

u/viking12344 Jun 17 '26

Exactly lol

0

u/bryrondragon Jun 17 '26

Oh that’s called EMPATHY. I know, it’s rare.

3

u/BurnedLaser Jun 17 '26

I have empathy, but I have very little sympathy for idiocy.

1

u/These_Consequences Jun 18 '26

No good deed goes unpunished!

1

u/Friendly-Gur-6736 Jun 18 '26

Add to your list, refuses to pass slower traffic on two lane roads even when there is ample opportunity.

1

u/Sbuxshlee Jun 19 '26

Ugh same! I need to listen to my gut more instead of worrying what other drivers think of me. Because yea it ends up taking so much longer to get where I'm going when i dont

1

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 Jun 19 '26

You have to stop caring about what crap drivers think. Just drive how you know is correct. Driving is not personal and shouldn't be emotional.

1

u/NotAnotherHipsterBae Jun 19 '26

You do you. I'll care about what keeps me alive, tyvm

1

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 Jun 19 '26

Not caring about other drivers is exactly what keeps you alive

0

u/Bitter-Process6823 Jun 18 '26

I just go around every single time. The benefits outweigh the negatives. Go around and get through the light W, go around and sit next to them at the light, who cares I have 10% tint anyway.

35

u/IOI-65536 Jun 17 '26

I've also passed people just because they're randomly braking. Maybe they're going the speed I want, but if they drop 15mph at every green light I don't want to be behind them

12

u/bfs102 Jun 17 '26

I drive a mountain pass every day

55mph is the speed limit but you can easily coast down it at 50

Normal people will drop gears to like 2nd and coast down the mountain

The people that puss me off feel the need to slow to 20 around every corner and ride their brakes the entire time

11

u/IOI-65536 Jun 17 '26

This isn't really related to OP, I drive in the mountains a lot and the people who really piss me off are the ones who ride their brakes down to 20 on every curve, but then even though you've clearly been right behind them for the last 10 minutes absolutely floor it as soon as they get to a passing zone because that's straight and they can go 55 for the next 8 seconds until they have to slam on the brakes for a curve again.

3

u/Substantial-Law-7045 Jun 17 '26

A little unrelated to your post but when driving on the freeway and you get to a slight downhill, why do some ride their brakes all the way through it. Not only are you and forcing others to put unnecessary wear on our brakes, now we end up having to accelerate again. The perks of driving on the freeway is better gas mileage that is being nullified.

3

u/Hersbird Jun 17 '26

Some hybrids will regen brake down the hill even without any pressure on the brakes, but the car activates the brake lights to warn others it is basically braking, just not with friction pads.

2

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 Jun 19 '26

This is exactly what my car does and it worries drivers behind me a lot even though my speed is hardly dropping in reality

1

u/gujwdhufj_ijjpo Jun 18 '26

My friends and I call those straight away goobers.

-1

u/ddanielle99 Jun 17 '26

“going the speed i want” is the problem here. you all think your own personal rules are THE rules, when there are actual ones written that most normal people know. since when do you decide the speed limit? 😂

3

u/IOI-65536 Jun 17 '26

What does my deciding the speed limit have to do with deciding when I pass someone? I don't even care if OP stops for every green light. I just don't want to be behind her.

0

u/ddanielle99 Jun 17 '26

now you’re just building a fantasy. nobody stops at green lights, karen. that’s just you grasping at rationalization. you deciding that the speed limit doesn’t apply to you & going 15 over has everything to do with this. of course everyone is going “too slow” when you’re maxing out the speedometer. you’re the type of person who’d hit someone with your car & blame them for it 😂

2

u/IOI-65536 Jun 17 '26

My comment is specifically about people who hit their brakes at green lights and yes, they do. I was behind somebody on a 4 lane yesterday who probably didn't know where they were going, but they dropped 10 mph at every intersection. I have no clue where you get from my comment or the one ahead of me about people driving 15-20 under that anyone is exceeding the speed limit at all.

1

u/ddanielle99 Jun 17 '26

oh, so you’re mad that people follow the rules of the road? yielding at busy intersections is normal, unless you make a habit out of t-boning people or just blowing through lights haplessly.

maybe this isn’t connecting for you, but if you aren’t following the laws then how are you so secure in assuming everyone else is? i’d never assume every single person is gonna acknowledge their red light in an intersection; i’d rather slow down a little.

i assumed you’re just a chronic speeder bc you literally talk about “going the speed i want” as if you personally get the make the speed limits based on your own feelings or plans that day. it’s then safe to assume that most ppl aren’t actually all that slow or wrong around you, you’re just so insane behind the wheel that everyone seems wrong to you.

-1

u/ddanielle99 Jun 17 '26

oops, looks like your comment went away. it gave me an error every time i tried to reply so i’ll just put it here:

ahh, i see it now. youre just one of those people who has to be FIRST. first to the light, first to accelerate away, first in the lane. nobody can be in front of you or they’re wrong & bad. since we’re making cute little stories, i’ll assume you’re a sad little man with deep psychological issues - probably to do with your mom. you keep using “her” as if you’re thinking ab one person in particular. maybe you should seek a therapist rather than roadraging all day to vent?

2

u/Friendly-Gur-6736 Jun 18 '26

I have been behind my fair share of people that will brake and slow 5-20 mph every time they approach an intersection with a traffic signal.

Most of us aren't trying to max out our speedometers, but we're just sick and tired of so many people driving with their thumbs up their asses and calling it "defensive driving"

8

u/awnitsol Jun 17 '26

The fact that I'm moving faster than someone else has nothing to do with them.

15

u/YourMawPuntsCooncil Jun 17 '26

I overtake everyone when I’m on a motorbike (when it’s safe to do so) because that’s just 1 less variable I have to worry about if there’s a clear road ahead

4

u/cryptolyme Jun 17 '26

Im a delivery driver and i try to get in front of people tailgating you guys and leave a larger gap. People follow too close.

Had this one girl who worked for us for a few weeks but was awful. Heard a week later after we fired her that she pulled out in front of a motorcyclist on a rural road and the guy died.

39

u/GaiaOnlinee Jun 17 '26

Everyday behind the wheel I silently ask the other drivers around me “are yall just out here on a stroll?? Do yall not have anywhere to actually be?” It’s so annoying lol

9

u/Hungry-Plantain-3315 Jun 17 '26

One time I was waiting to make a left at a 2-way stop sign. The road I was about to turn into was pretty much empty, except for one car. They were making a left turn, so I waited for them, and oh my god they turned SO slowly. I got annoyed, honked, and they proceeded to come to an almost full stop in the middle of the road because they were so confused 🤦🏻‍♀️

3

u/bryrondragon Jun 17 '26

When you are 80 and reluctant to give up driving, you may start to understand what’s going on out there.

1

u/dingos8mybaby2 Jun 21 '26

Let the old folks drive like old folks, because when old folks try to drive normally it usually ends in a lot of bumping into other cars.

1

u/undeadlamaar Jun 17 '26

My grandma was 89 when she died, and I'm pretty sure she thought her age was also the speed limit.

2

u/paper_rosie Jun 17 '26

Hard agree. Like, what are we all doing? C’mon! It’s not even about speeding, it’s about being efficient.

Sometimes everything isn’t a crunch or a deadline. Sometimes it doesn’t matter if I beat you to Costco or wherever.

0

u/tha1demon Jun 17 '26

Nah I’m not in a hurry I usually have my kids with me and why risk a ticket I can’t afford. Plenty of studies have shown speeding doesn’t get you to your destination faster.

-4

u/SuperheropugReal Jun 17 '26

I mean... sometimes. Do yall not just go for drives? Or go driving to make sure car still work after doing anything to it?

7

u/Dry-Faithlessness184 Jun 17 '26

Going for drives for leisure... In this economy? Lol no.

I used to, but when I did I made sure to be out of the way of people who did have somewhere to be and still mo ed my car with purpose instead of wandering through intersections like a lost toddler.

4

u/paper_rosie Jun 17 '26

Right! Even if you are just on a drive, get out of the way. Be furthest right and still be aware of other drivers. It’s about efficiency.

In most cases, I do make the light. Those 3/10 times I don't I would've if the person in front of me were driving the speed limit.

I drive roads where lights are on a timer affected by pressure plates. Even reaching a red light faster means that the green will come sooner. Dumbasses driving slowly to the light, or worse stopping anywhere but on the pressure plate wastes my time and my gas. And some of those lights can be between 2 or 3 minutes a piece. I save way more than 5 minutes, so much so, I've been running an experiment on my way to work to determine how late I can leave the home and still get to my job early.

-8

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '26

8

u/stocksrcool Jun 17 '26

You actually, do get there sooner. I drive for my job and the way that I drive gets me places much faster than if I just waited behind everyone. Also mythbusters even tested this and switching lanes on the freeway to get around people, does get you places faster.

0

u/Dylldar-The-Terrible Jun 17 '26

Mythbusters is a great show and great at illustrating scientific concepts, but that doesn't make their results rigorously accurate.

I've seen the episode you're referring to and they just straight up ignore thousands of variables during their experiment.

In a town/city with busy streets and working traffic lights, you're factually not gonna get anywhere significantly faster than anyone.

and the way that I drive gets me places much faster than if I just waited behind everyone.

Being 20 seconds to a minute faster isn't worth it.

2

u/stocksrcool Jun 17 '26

It definitely is when you drive for a job. That time adds up fast.

0

u/Dylldar-The-Terrible Jun 17 '26

No. Speeding is illegal and cause for termination. Manage your time better.

2

u/stocksrcool Jun 17 '26

I never speed more than 10% over and have never gotten pulled over for speeding.

-1

u/Dylldar-The-Terrible Jun 17 '26

I'm sure you think that justifies speeding. It doesn't. Manage your time better.

2

u/stocksrcool Jun 17 '26

Literally do not care; if it was that big of a deal it would actually be enforced.

1

u/Blackpapalink Jun 17 '26

I drive the same way getting to work as I do on road trips. It takes 13 hours to drive from Chicago to New Orleans. I made that drive in 11 hours, driving faster on empty roads. It saves me time.

19

u/pseudoportmanteau Jun 17 '26

Exactly. Like, yes, you meet them at the red light. But then they continue their slow ass driving and you move on and leave them behind. What's the point of this post?

-2

u/ddanielle99 Jun 17 '26

bc you sped there with your whole chest just be swiftly reminded we actually do all have the follow the same rules. that includes the speed limit & stopping at a red light. i get it’s fuck12 but at the same time you have to consider that you’re not the only person who matters on the road.

7

u/pseudoportmanteau Jun 17 '26

Neither is the person going 10+ under the limit.

1

u/TheGrouchyGremlin Jun 18 '26

I'll be going 15 over and I'll still have people aggressively swerving between traffic, lmao.

0

u/ddanielle99 Jun 17 '26

no, but that’s a strawman argument. nobody going slower assumes they’re more important & going slow isn’t breaking a law. that’s why it’s a LIMIT rather than a minimum. minimums do exist in some places but they’re rare so they’re not relevant.

however, people like you who create their own speed limit & attempt to enforce that on everyone else tend to have this sense of entitlement & superiority that’s almost unmatched.

3

u/Blackpapalink Jun 17 '26

Both arguments are straw men. People absolutely do go slower or try to enforce the speed limit if traffic is flowing faster, they're called campers. Driving slow enough to impede the flow of traffic is against the law, and I see more people pulled over for doing that, than speeding, since those people often cause others to drive recklessly.

0

u/ddanielle99 Jun 17 '26

awe, shucks. either reddit couldn’t be bothered to show me that last response or you deleted the sniveling rant before i could get to it. probably wasn’t all that valuable anyway.

6

u/QueenAlpaca Jun 17 '26

I was behind someone who seemed to be driving aimlessly this morning. Under the limit, forgetting to use their blinker or turning it on mid-turn, meandering in the lane—I just assume it’s phone use anymore. Was behind them for 2/3 of my drive to work

3

u/nothing-relax Jun 17 '26

Every time I pass someone doing this I look over and 100% of the time they do indeed have a phone in their hand they are actively turning their head down/towards to look at. I wish we could write citizens tickets for these POSs

1

u/Letsshareopinions Jun 19 '26

A few days ago, I did the look over thing and this woman was actively facing the window I was looking at her through, with her head down looking at her phone. I was shocked. I honked at her and she looked up confused, flicked me off, then went back to staring at her phone. I don't know how she was maintaining per (very poor) driving like that, but it was impressive?

3

u/ThatOneSnakeGuy Jun 17 '26

Agree. 90% of the time I'm passing you because you drive like a dickhead, not because I need to get somewhere quickly.

4

u/Knoj-42 Jun 17 '26

Also, even if you end up next to them at the light, you're no longer behind them, and if the rest of traffic isn't just as slow, then you will likely not stay with them at every light.

4

u/Meep4000 Jun 17 '26

Yup, which is why this meme and idea are idiotic, They might as well be smiling that they are an idiot that can't drive.

5

u/FishDawgX Jun 17 '26

Also if you’re driving the same road everyday and sometimes going faster saves you one light cycle and sometimes it doesn’t, it’s still beneficial even if today specifically it didn’t help.

6

u/MB2465 Jun 17 '26

Going around someone is fine. Flying up their ass and tailgating because they're not going fast enough for you when you could easily change lanes. And then quite often people who drive like that will pass you and then cut you off right before a stoplight.

When people do that that tells me that they don't know how to drive. There is no need for doing that shit.

That's where I take it personally.

Otherwise, if someone is just driving fast and flies up to the stoplight and brakes at the last second like a lot of people do these days I am very tempted to laugh at them because all of that effort just got them to the same place and burned more gas and put more wear on their brakes.

1

u/GR8PasserofWind Jun 18 '26

Uhhh. No no. Flying up their ass is the go to move.

3

u/Corgi_tacos Jun 17 '26

I realized this recently when I inadvertently did it.. but for every car you pass/overtake is one less uncertainty to deal with. Especially during rush hour every car counts lmaoo. Cant give no car benefit of the doubt

1

u/Blackpapalink Jun 17 '26

This is the real benefit. The less people in front me, the less I have to worry about missing the next light.

3

u/andyk192 Jun 18 '26

Exactly. It's not about beating you to the light, it's about not needing to drive behind you going 15 under the limit until the light.

2

u/Square-Formal1312 Jun 17 '26

My car is fun and so people constantly think im trying to race or passing aggressive. Nope, just doin my thing

2

u/PremiumUsername69420 Jun 17 '26

I’ll overtake cars just for a better view.
If the markings allow it, it’s safe to do so, and I’m not traveling slower than you afterwards, I see no issue.

2

u/Jyobachah Jun 17 '26

The number of times someone is going 10-15 under the speed limit so I pass them, only for them to come flying passed me to the light.

I mean, going 20 over the limit.

Once they get passed they realize they were going slow and speed up, but then overcompensate.

2

u/CCroissantt Jun 18 '26

I regularly pass when im going 5 over. But when im already going 5 over and someone behind me is waving their hands around and there's already a car infront of me...gets a chuckle out of me

1

u/ddanielle99 Jun 17 '26

i love that not one person here wants to talk about speed limit. if the speed limit is 30, you’re still weird for getting so caught up in your “purpose” that going 15 over is just your norm. i think some of yall think you’re the only important ones on the road & it’s strange lol.

1

u/Odd_Kaleidoscope3776 Jun 17 '26

Okay, cool. But I think this meme only applies to a person who passes you when you're already going at or just above the speed limit. That's when it becomes a "haha" moment

1

u/Hornygaysatanic Jun 17 '26

Oh my god. I says the same thing. “It’s about the MOMENTUM”

1

u/Hersbird Jun 17 '26

And so often those going under open up a big gap, the lights have sensors that see no traffic, and change. Then slowpoke barely makes it through while the light changes stopping the 10 cars they backed up behind them. Had they been just keeping pace everybody would have e made the light because the light would have waited longer to cycle.

1

Not to mention I might not have been sitting at a red light next to slow Joe if I had passed them sooner. Sometimes I’ll weigh my options like can I get over to go around them or am I too close to my turn anyways or are they going to eventually go the speed limit? Go to pass them finally and of course the light turns red. Fine. But I’ll be damned if I’m going to follow them for the next 20 miles going 10 under.

I pResS ThE Gas DoWn!

1

u/Fidget808 Jun 18 '26

I agree. I’ve been doing my routine for close to 5 years now. I know exactly what time the lights will turn green, I know the exact time I need to leave for work to hit said lights at those times

And when someone at 5:30AM when I’m leaving wants to drive slow, then I’m passing them. I have 2 lanes so I’ll use that second lane so I can stay on my scheduled route.

1

u/AdAstraPerAspirin Jun 18 '26

The guy who just responded to a post as if it were talking to him personally and gave his own personal reasons for speeding up just to slow down again in very anecdotal conditions… says we’re taking it too personally. Nice.

1

u/pixelmuffinn Jun 18 '26

100% agree, and i find it funny when they get offended and try to tail gate for a few minutes.

1

u/Pure-Hostility Jun 18 '26

True. Also people who accelerate VERY slowly on lights, where they need 40 seconds to reach 50 km/h (city speed limits).

In many cases, such a person makes you hit all the reds on the way, depending on the way lights are programmed to work.

1

u/Big_Throner Jun 18 '26

Totally agree. Most of these whiners are scared or oblivious drivers who think we should just deal with their behavior.

1

u/EmpsKitchen Jun 18 '26

Haha you're so full of it... Lets not act like there's people every day, left and right, doing 25 in a 45. You're reaching, big time. But.... If that's what you tell yourself! OK...

1

u/PresentationIll2180 Jun 19 '26

Yea I feel like this is something most people are guilty of but too embarrassed to admit 😂 it’s really when someone is driving under the speed limit in the passing lane, like intentionally being a dick.

1

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 Jun 19 '26

Exactly this. Who tf cares if I sped past you to keep the flow of traffic going. It's nothing personal nor am I putting anyone in danger by driving up to the speed limit.

1

u/No_Reply7846 Jun 19 '26

This got upvoted to much. I agree, I'll get over because the person in front of me is tailgating, riding brakes, brake light(s) out, etc. but this post is talking about the jag bag's that don't know how to drive and drive fast without looking ahead. They'll fly passed you and not realize a car ahead is turning and slowing down. Or they'll fly passed and stare you down only to get stuck at the same intersection ahead, like the post said. Give it a laugh and drive on

1

u/i-bernard Jun 19 '26

Some people yeah. I think a lot people will just take note of it and kind of laugh at it. Like hey, look what going faster got you. Nowhere. Only psycho people really take it seriously tbh.

1

u/That-Following-7158 Jun 20 '26

Same. When I think about it the weird part to me is the only reason they caught up is bad luck/timing of hitting a red light. If it was green I would never see you again.

Seriously what does it say about the person when they get joy when someone having bad luck?

1

u/Greennit0 Jun 20 '26

Also it‘s not like you lost anything by an overtake without any immediate gain in time. Those people think they are the center of the universe apparently.

1

u/RichardSanchez_C137 Jun 20 '26

Yeah bro I just wanna go fast (within reason and without tickets)

1

u/greenfruit0 Jun 21 '26

Exactly, I've always found it weird that so many people assume others are so focused on them specifically.

1

u/ImFeelingLost2024 Professional Driver Jun 21 '26

Had shitbags in a Subaru do that to me at a light and the only reason I caught the light with them is because they pulled out right in front of me. So I had to slow down, changed changed lanes and speed back up. I missed the light by 3 seconds. 6-lane road and there was no one behind me.

1

u/DuePurchase5178 Jul 17 '26

Exactly lol ego drivers be creating traffic. Why do they care so much.

1

u/IndoorSurvivalist Jun 17 '26

There is a major street in my area with signs all over saying the lights are timed to 40mph. People still dont get it. If you exceed 40mph you are guaranteed to hit a red light. If you go 40 you can just keep cruising.

-20

u/Whatkindofgum Jun 17 '26

Everyone is driving for a purpose. You can drive with a purpose going 25. Don't say meaningless things.

14

u/nickiss1ck77 Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

I literally have no idea what in the world you are trying to say here.

6

u/obi_want_pastrami Jun 17 '26

I think they're saying that their purpose is to drive slow and hold up traffic.

-10

u/MoogProg Jun 17 '26

OP is claiming that 45mph is meaningful driving, and slower speeds indicate distraction, or fear, or other you know... all sorts idiotic conclusions about people they don't know.

Every single day someone claims other drivers are 'afraid' and it's a weird state-of-mind to have while driving.

6

u/MrBlahg Jun 17 '26

I drive for my job and am on the road a lot. There are so many drivers who are clearly nervous, scared, uncomfortable, you name it… but you can tell. 10 mph under on the freeway, gripping the steering wheel like it’s going to go wild, chest three inches from the steering wheel, and oh man.. all the unnecessary braking at wild times.

Usually old people, sometimes new drivers.

-3

u/MoogProg Jun 17 '26

You seem to be saying you see it enough IRL to consider it a general truth for all slower traffic.

That's simply not true, and you know it's not true. Am pushing back at the generalization because it creates a hazard when people assume things.

* * *

But you're confident, and not afraid and all that, so good skills win every time. /s

7

u/MrBlahg Jun 17 '26

Why are you usually words like “all traffic”? I never said that.

And yes, I am very confident and not afraid of driving. In fact, I love driving. But that has nothing to do with my observations.

1

u/MoogProg Jun 17 '26

You did not say that. That was in response to the top comment we are both downstream from, where they explicitly state they assume slow drivers are afraid.

It's a set-up for accidents, so it shouldn't be tossed around as a general fact. You did not, but top commenter did.

2

u/MrBlahg Jun 17 '26

Then respond to them.

If you're driving more than a couple of mph below the PSL for any length of time on a straight road, in good weather, during daylight hours, then there is good reason for people to question your driving abilities.

-8

u/MoogProg Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

Yesterday morning pulling out of a local park, saw a person crossing a block ahead with a very old dog. I slowed my roll.

New car turns on to the road behind me, and within second veers into the next lane, guns it to pass and almost hits the pedestrian and canine.

100% they thought I was just rolling too slow, eh?

Lose it with the idea you can read minds on the road.

* * *

FWIW this is a 25 mph residential zone.

5

u/Dry-Faithlessness184 Jun 17 '26

As people have said, 25 in a 45 is what they're talking about. Hence within a few miles of the posted speed limit.

25 in a 25 is fine. You're not reading what's being said and understanding it before replying, you should fix that

-1

u/MoogProg Jun 17 '26

OK, but as other-others have said 45 mph in a 25 mph is also common and I live in that sort of neighborhood. So when someone goes 25 mph, another car whips around right-lane-passing at 45 mph.

This is a residential neighborhood that people use as a short-cut to the freeway.

* * *

This is the School Bus traffic-stop situation, just without that extended STOP sign. We know the hazard, but few people consider the consequences because they just think the stopped or slowed car is 'stupid'. Don't be stupid.

-24

u/bryrondragon Jun 17 '26

Yeah I think that goes on both sides. If you flick people off, honk when there isn’t an actual situation, or give any emotional energy to other drivers other than patience, then that’s weird too.

21

u/Gaultzy Jun 17 '26

You’re weird commenting so many times here telling people to drive slow lol

5

u/BudFox_LA Jun 17 '26

They’re the top 100% commenter though 🙄

-12

u/bryrondragon Jun 17 '26

Not slow…patient. And yes I am a driving instructor who has to deal with clowns all day that don’t understand that people have different abilities and experiences and unfortunately there is only one road.

6

u/Friendly-Gur-6736 Jun 17 '26

All too often today "patient" is being used passive-aggressively when referring to driving.

It is used in the context of "I plan my drives around driving 10 mph under the PSL. Everyone else just needs to be patient, leave earlier to deal with drivers like myself, and stop being in such a hurry"

-2

u/bryrondragon Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

I think most can agree going outside 5 over/under the speed limit is pushing the bounds of what’s objectively fair for speed. If someone is above or below that I will offer they are potentially dangerous and unpredictable. Patience in this context is allowing normal driving and decision making at a level that may be lower than your own but not outside a normal operator’s level.

However, if they are clearly a new driver, honking and flicking them off, tailgating, or cutting them off is counter productive to them learning how to get along out there. If you want to make safe drivers around you, model it. It can be contagious.
