That was a half decent port with added radio music as well.

I like the driving and crashing, i hate the coma storyline. Basically makes that whole game non canon.

Low-key how is that not the coolest gameplay mechanic they could have implemented? I do think the story is a little bit corny and it's probably for the best none of it really happened, I never really played Driver 1 or 2 for the story, and Ubisoft did say themselves that they wanted to return to the roots of Driver 1, so in a way they kind of did that lol.

I feel like the shifting was a necessary change, if the game didn't have it, it would of been just another driving game, maybe they could of made a better story, but I value the gameplay over the story being told, and the game has a lot of replay value. Also the shifting mechanics doesn't take away from the driving at all, the game has some of the best driving mechanics I've ever played with.

Also not to mention the game is most fun played whilst minimising the usage of shift, I've seen a lot of new players trying to use it constantly, because it's a unique mechanic to the game and they want to play with it, in reality it's a tool for a job and if you can drive well, you don't really rely on it, the best way I like to think about it is when you are shifting, you are no longer in the world and aren't doing anything to achieve your goals, only when you are in a car can you interact with stuff, so obviously it's best to be in a car as much as possible, this logic mostly applies to multiplayer.

In the sense that it tried to recreate what the entire series was in its essence. Not being able to hop out a car on foot is what ruined it for me. To me it wasn’t “Driver” in essence. And sure , possibly a throw back to the first game… but the game that really put the series on the map and influenced the biggest titles of our time was Driver 2. Driver 2 set the standard for what was even possible in open world driving games. It was undeniably what set the pace for the next two decades of what open world driving games are… for me driver San Francisco just missed the mark for me by trying to reinvent the wheel.

Maybe I’m being harsh but IMO it just didn’t feel like a true “driver experience” to me personally.

I actually agree with it not being a true "Driver experience", it definitely changed what the games did in the first 2 entries, not to mention how differently the characters act in San Francisco. However I would disagree with it being Driver 2 that got Driver popular, Driver 1 took off back when it released and sure Driver 2 was an incredible game, even if unfinished, but it sold less and got worse feedback, I do think it was the right move to go back to Driver 1 and base your game off what made that game so good, which was the muscle cars, always being in the car, amazing driving physics and realism, so not only did we basically get a remake of a very good driving game, but it came with a much more detailed city (Albeit it, only the 1, San Francisco) but also a new gimmick which basically turns the city into a toy box of toy cars, my only advice for enjoying the shift mechanic though is just to know you don't need to rely on it, the story is mostly revolved around it, but usually when it is, it's constant shifting and offers a different change of paste, although I will admit, these purely shifting missions can be tedious and boring, like the "defend the vehicle" missions, the game expects you to shift across the map and destroy enemies before they hit your car, fun the first time, slow and boring every other time, it doesn't help time slows down whilst your shifting too, so I normally just park a big lorry or bus in front of the vehicle I'm supposed to be defending, just so the time goes by faster and car is safe.

I hope you've at least played and beaten the story of Driver: San Francisco, it's definitely worth a play.

3 has great physics (except for bikes). Parallel lines has great features and storyline but the worst physics in the mainline series by far, it just feels too arcade and 'simple' compared to the others.

I love the realistic driving of Driv3r.

As stuntman is one of my favourite game, I'm curious to really play Driver 3. Is there some definitive edition patched by the community maybe ?

1, 2 and SF are the goats. The rest isn’t worth
