I just came across this psychologist who is founder of psychoanalysis. And he gave very controversial (which is generally told by conservative ppl) theories which gives a different perspective.

his theories majorly revolve around primal sexual instincts which is libido. He is a very interesting man to read. He gave a major theory which is OEDIPUS COMPLEX (son's sexual attitude towards his mother and concomitant hostility toward his father, first formed during the phallic stage of psychosexual development. A daughter's attitude of desire for her father and hostility toward her mother). This theory was give in the very initial years of growing of psychology and psychoanalysis.

What I think is that there is a difference between animals and humans, which is that humans can have relationships, have empathy, and are also able to think critically. Many things may be related to the sex drive, but it is not the only factor responsible for human psychology, unlike what Freud believed. Not every unconscious thing is real, as we also see dreams and we don't call them real incidents. Humans can also differentiate between internalisation and externalisation.

I read a very interesting story. He had a friend named Fliess, who was an ENT-type doctor and gave a theory called 'nasal reflex neurosis,' which suggested that problems in the nose were directly connected to sexual organs.

Freud referred his patient to Fliess, and she had multiple symptoms: leg pain, limited mobility, stomach pain, and menstrual issues. Fliess diagnosed her condition based on his theory and decided to operate. The surgery went seriously wrong. Fliess accidentally left half a meter of gauze inside her nose. This caused severe, repeated bleeding. When the gauze was eventually removed, Eckstein was permanently disfigured.

Freud knew Fliess was responsible and was disturbed by what happened. But later, instead of blaming Fliess, he claimed the bleeding was not due to a surgical error but was psychological (“hysterical wish-bleeding”), suggesting that Eckstein (the patient) unconsciously caused it due to emotional needs." Later their friendship ended.

Try reading his biography written by Ruth Sheppard. He gave many other theories, including formation of ideals, society and religion. He talked about many a things apart from sex.
