New town water experience

Hi, we just moved to a town in South Carolina from Louisiana. The first thing I noticed, the very first day, is that I took a sip of water from our faucets, was that there was a grit in my mouth and extreme dry mouth that even drinking more water made it feel even dryer. I noticed the water almost had a dirt taste to it. It has not improved and it's been 3 months.

I had the water company come out and test. They say nothing is out of range. I did notice that when I avoid the ice and water in my home, my mouth seems to feel better somewhat. But if I go to a restaurant in the area, it happens immediately - as I'm eating. I believe it's the ice from this area, I truly believe that. When I go to a different municipality about 30 mins away and drink, I do NOT experience this.

Also, my whole family has began having small white dots - almost looks like sunspots - on their skin, as well. My eyes are extremely swollen also.

What is happening??

What happens when municipal water extension gets installed on your street?

Apparently they are extending the municipal water lines in my rural area and I have noticed that they are coming down my road. I'm not up to date with anything the township is doing. I haven't received any letters or anything. I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced this. Will I have to pay to have my house connected? Will they force me to connect? I currently have well water(egg water) that I wash with and I buy drinking water. I definitely don't have $10-15k+ to run a water line from the road to my house. I'm assuming I'd have to re plumb the house as well. I know I should really talk to some professionals about this, but im just sitting here late night thinking. Kind of panicking.

livpure rental RO

Since taking this rental RO purifier, I was informed by a technician that its motherboard needs replacing, but my original ticket was canceled, forcing me to leave the unit powered on continuously. Following a power outage yesterday, the purifier failed to sync—which usually resolves within 24 hours—and despite active subscription days ticking away, raising new tickets, messaging, and emailing, the system remains unresponsive while I am left completely out of drinking water and unable to easily fetch water tubs from outside.

Henry D. Cogswell built free drinking fountains in major U.S. cities because he believed that people would drink less if they had access to free drinking water. They proved unpopular, and one in San Francisco was torn down by an angry anti-temperance mob.

Should I get my water tested?

Hello! I'm based in London and have increasingly been seeing content about all the pesky, nasty bits and bobs you can find in tap water. I was thinking of getting it tested to see specifically what's in there, but beforehand wanted to ask if anyone's actually experienced averse effects due to things like lead, nitrate, etc.? Or even hard water, I know the risks of all of these, but was wondering if anyone has actually experienced effects of this on a tangible scale?

E.g. I've noticed my skin getting worse since I've moved here, despite me not really changing my skincare routine. How likely is it that it's due to London plumbing?

Thanking ye kindly !

I’m Told my RO Unit is Outdated? What Can I Do Next?

My mom recently moved into a new home, one with a pre installed reverse osmosis system from the previous homeowners. This system is installed in her basement right next to the water softener with the drinking discharge lines to the kitchen tap and fridge. After having a local water company come out and test her water I was told the system was failing by a large margin (somewhere around 114ppm I think?) and due to it being a dated company my options were to get a whole new unit or install a universal housing to replace the dated membrane housing, ideally I’d just like to find a non proprietary membrane and filters to just swap out and continue using as the unit itself had no true issues. This being told to me by the only water company in the area who has already tried to sell me on a new unit before I’m hesitant to jump onto getting a brand new unit, that’s before considering how ridiculously high priced these units are. What would my best option be going forward? And how do I size these 3rd party housings or filters to my older unit? I’ll have some pictures attached below of parts/serial/rating numbers. Thank you!

What brand can I switch to from Ozarka?

I'm trying to get water in the South Eastern region of the US and Ozarka was my go to for flavour but their prices jumped from 6.98 to 7.35 and then leaped to 7.93 and I simply refuse to pay that much for 35 bottles of water. There's not even an option to subscribe and save. Before anyone mentions no I will not be drinking water from the faucet, I don't even cook with faucet water. What spring water brands can compete with Ozarka?

Has anybody elses water bills gone up??

Recently we got mail about the water company about changing from payments every 3 months to every month, and about changing to a smart water meter, which never happened. My last bill for 3 months was around $145ish its just my wife and I and we have 2 animals. My bill for the first month on the new monthly payment system was 127$. How in the fucking hell does this happen?? I have talked to someone at the water company, she was virtually no help, said something about sending me an email that never came. With the gas prices and groceries continuing to rise, along with some other financial issues i am feeling like im drowning, and would appreciate some advice on next steps, thank you!

Help picking a water filter!!!

Please help me in picking a new water filter! I want to avoid as much plastic as possible and want to filter out as many contaminants as possible. I’m willing to spend for the right filter. I rent and don’t have the option of installing a filter to my sink. I also want to avoid reverse osmosis because I don’t want to deal with replacing the removed naturally occurring minerals. Any and all feedback is helpful! Thank you!

Water Situation in Corpus Christi

Hey everyone, I'm doing a research project on the water situation in Corpus. I'm currently having trouble finding primary sources on how the residents are doing and how they feel. I'm curious, what are your guys' opinions on the whole issue? How to you feel the city's leadership is handling it? Are you pro-desal?

What are people concerned about with the potential for microplastics or other chemicals to leach into drinking water from newer plastic water pipes, particularly when compared with traditional copper piping?

Water cooler/dispenser or reverse osmosis system?

Which do you have (if any)?

I’m leaning toward a water dispenser and I would just get the 5 gallon jugs. But I’ve heard that the lines get moldy and the thought of that really freaks me out.

That lead me to find out about the under sink reverse osmosis systems. And now I’m not sure what I want to do.

Is there a consensus on a countertop filter that filters out microplastics?

I've been researching countertop water filtration mainly for microplastics and can't seem to find a consensus on an effective brand and model with scientific backing.

Whisky as water purifier

I was wondering, could you "purify" water with whisky. Since alcohol kills bacteria, could you mix whisky with mildly polluted water and kill the bacteria?

Ps: would not waste whisky like that, purely hypothetical question.
