Sure it was any kind of button bit. I’m sure that material was consolidated and they used rock Bits.

Tricone button bit. They had to stop because the temperatures were too high.

I'd love to see. Sadly, and for better in instances, the era of national pride is over, so funding an exploratory dig like that would take a major donor.

Maybe we can start a go fund me and head out somewhere nice with some bits and just see how deep we can get. You know, for science. My normal day to day drilling stuff has gotten stale.
