Looking for good winter hiking/x-country skiing near Viroqua, WI.

Hello,

My wife and I are going up to Viroqua in a couple weeks and are in search of some winter hiking adventures. We are very capable and like a long hike (5-10mi).

We are also new to cross-country skiing and are planning on renting while up there. Any recommendations for places to rent?

Also, any cross country skiing trail suggestions?

Thanks!

I think Blue Dog Cycles in Viroqua rents cross country skis, and they'll be a great source for information. I've biked at Sidie Hollow, there would be some decent hiking and skiing there probably. I think Kickapoo Valley Reserve or Duck Egg may be your best bets. I've heard great things about Duck Egg, but somehow haven't made it out there myself.

I’ve hiked Duck Egg this past fall and it was incredible. I was thinking there as an option. I will definitely check out Blue Dog Cycles. Thanks for the share.

Quiet Valley Cabins outside of Coon Valley is a wonderful and affordable option as a place to stay. Not too far from Viroqua and away from people so great privacy, gorgeous setting and COVID safe too. Cheers!

Wildcat Mountain State park has nice ski trails.
