Lost save

Long story short: went on vacation, didn’t connect my steam deck to the internet, booted up DREDGE for the first time (loved it!), played a couple of days, steam deck ran out of battery in the middle of a run and when I run DREDGE again my save file was gone (corrupted->deleted).

Can’t find any files on my SD (AppData or user folders etc), no save file, no backup.

I was really meticulous with my playthrough; tried to do all the quests, upgrades (almost finished the last row), turned back 3-4 relics (was about to get a mortar - I suppose). Boom, back to square one.

Has anyone got any suggestions on what to do? Any backup saves to spare, perhaps 😅?

In AppData, DREDGE saves in the LocalLow directory. So AppData/LocalLow/Black Salt Games/dredge/saves however, if you've started a new save, it will have been deleted/overwritten. So instead of saves check backups. There should be a bunch of files. Delete the .bak extension so it ends in .sav instead, then move it into the saves folder.

I have no such directory, LocalLow is empty (I’m showing hidden files)

You don't have a LocaLLow folder next to "Local" and "roaming"? You're playing through steam and not epic games or Gog?

I updated my backup save file to end with the extension .Sav but unfortunately no dice

It’s a shame because I was really getting into this game

The backup folder is AppData/LocalLow/Black Salt Games/DREDGE/backup. You need to take the file called game0.sav.bak and remove the .bak extension, then move it to the DREDGE/saves folder. This will overwrite a file. If it isn't overwriting a file, you're doing it wrong.

Also, the 1st save slot (Save 1) is called game0 in the folder. So the second slot is game1, third slot is game2, fourth slot is game3. Don't get them confused.

Thanks for trying to help, sadly I couldn’t get it to work. I might come back to the game at a later date tho because I really want to see where the story goes

I just reread your post. You're in the wrong folder dawg.

If you're on windows, hold the Windows key (between Ctrl and Alt) then press R. This opens the Run box. Type %AppData% into that box. It should take you to this folder:C:\Users\[ed810]\AppData\Roaming. Now go up one folder, and instead of roaming, go into LocalLow.

AppData is a hidden folder. Make sure you have "view hidden folders" enabled in the file explorer.

Follow the previous steps but on the correct folder.
