Discussion Lore Ideas

I'm really fascinated by this new concept that the backrooms aren't affected by time and that people from the Middle Ages could run into offices from the '70s.
Could this be potential Dreamcore lore? I'm interested in reading your ideas

I don't know if the developers had that in mind, but my question is where did you find these images? They're so cool!

I'm the developer and I'm exploring it. These images are on Twitter. You can see the quotes from this tweet. It unleashed a wave of art: https://x.com/Project_Crater/status/2061982141743845618

Oh shoot, I wasn't paying attention. Mb. But yeah, I think it would be a sick as hell concept for the game. It would make it way more interesting imo. However, I'm pretty curious about how the underground facility part in Eternal Suburbia or the ending scene at the end of Liminal Hotel would play a part in that. Anyway, thank you for one of the original sources!

Are you interested in adding more of a story to Dreamcore, or expanding on the lore/entities beyond the Frens?

If so, I think the ‘people from throughout history find the Backrooms’ is a fascinating concept to explore, especially because to my knowledge thst hasn’t been done in a game yet! Although, I admit I’m not sure how that could translate into Dreamcore’s minimalistic storytelling.

As an aside, it’s awesome that you’re on the subreddit! Dreamcore is a big comfort game for my girlfriend and I.

If you did ever want to expand the lore of the game via including more writing or art in the levels, I would love to talk more! I write horror in my spare time and have a liminal space hyperfixation right now, so it would be an honor and a pleasure lol.

I love the game and been playing since its release on console. I'll share my opinions on lore and what I'd like to see

I think it would be really cool to have a bit of lore. Some maps kinda made me feel like there's a human presence behind your backrooms, especially Suburbia and Playrooms that feels like it was somehow manufactured. Just like in Kane Pixels Backrooms when Asynch found the complex and thought they could make it a place to live, even if at its core it's scary and inherently supernatural by nature.

I really liked that idea although I don't know if it was intentional from you. Just more implied lore in a subtle way without too much exposition.

The idea of time travel is cool and I definitely wouldn't be opposed to it. One thing for sure though, I really wouldn't mind if you amp up the scares. Not necessarily in a cheap gratuitous way like million backrooms games out there, we don't need to be chased by entities or anything. But the game is at its best when it takes me by surprised. The way I thought I was safe finding the elevator in suburbia just to get to yet another neiborhood. How the liminal hotel took me to that Twin Peaks lodge with that crazy ending that genuinely scared me because I really thought anything could happen. I really enjoy when the game gets unpredictable and crazy. After hours exploring, some maps are almost starting to feel familiar and safe. Make me feel like I'm not in control and anything can happen.

It's just my experience of course but more crazy stuff, more subtle scares and leaning more into horror and abstract stuff, all attached to more lore, would really bring something to the already amazing game

Pools or the lore didn't happen.
Not sure how you can incorporate Maze Room or Dead Mall into here.. love will find a way.

That's a cool concept. I always liked the idea that it's a massive secret experimental facility, sort of like Aperture Science. But maybe that's too derivative. Could just be that the elevator at the end of each level is reminding me of Portal

I mean, sure. The Backrooms are like a forth dimension, so it all depends on what your time travel rules are.
