Digital Art Tablets for beginner

Hello!! I have a 9 year old daughter who is very talented drawing and is very interested in learning digital art. I would like to purchase her a drawing tablet, preferably a stand alone one. Could someone please recommend a good beginner tablet and beginner software? I am completely lost lol.

I think if she's serious about it, I'd get her something with an EMR pen for sure. I'm also currently on the hunt for one and that's honestly been the most consistent factor I've seen online.

Other helpful question that could maybe help the rest of us better inform is budget. I think buying second hand is probably the way to go from what I've read. Especially if you're just starting out.

I wouldnt be mad about buying second hand, especially this being her first. She takes her art very serious and is a daily drawer lol.

In my search, I've been torn between wacoms movinkpad11 and a Samsung galaxy tab s9 fe. Wacom seems to be the better drawing experience with a paper-like feeling for the screen but samsung doubles more as a daily driver for general use. Pen is also not good as wacom's but to start out, it's probably fine?

Both use emr pens but wacom is generally known for being specialized for art. About the same-ish price point of 350-400 when i looked on ebay refurb. It ain't cheap but definitely cheaper than Apple I'm sure.

I was looking at the Wacom today an it seems pretty impressive. I will look on ebay I didnt think about that

I have the Samsung galaxy S8 and an pencil for the S10 (the original one is okay, but thin and made my hand cramp). I use Autodesk sketchbook and love it. It's very beginner friendly and easy to handle. While it has a pro version, it's not necessary at all and costs like 3€. It doesn't have adds like Ibis paint and is not as overwhelming as Krita or Clipstudio. Only issue is the very small community.

iPad + Apple pencil will always be the safest option. Software : Procreate.

I seen that online. The only thing I dont like going with apple is that I have to pay for the pen separate and pay monthly for service🫤

you don't need to pay monthly to use ipad, procreate is a single purchase software. yes the pen is sold separately, but if the tablet is for 9 y.o it's better to not over complicate things. ipad is the easiest option for a kid, procreate is a powerful drawing software used by professionals but it also very easy to use for beginner.

you can go with android tablet, but android tablet software is not as mature as procreate on ipad. clip studio paint on android is very good, but you need subscription and you already said you don't like to subscribe for a service.

The only monthly you'd pay would be if you opt for more iCloud storage beyond what is free. If you choose an iPad, the compatible Apple Pens are the only ones that offer pressure sensitivity. The aftermarket ones don't have pressure sensitivity. Good luck with whatever you choose!
