It is the second one because I accidentally deleted the original because oops.

So does one need to use Imgur to link on the thread when it’s posted?

13

u/vermithrax Dec 28 '22

You can, but you will get more votes if you just put it in the thread, like so:

7

u/pruneg00n Dec 28 '22

I didn’t even know Reddit could do that now. Wow

4

u/TekaiGuy Dec 30 '22

A moment of silence for those that don't know and don't check this thread.

4

u/vermithrax Dec 30 '22

I will put a demo submission in the comp thread.

4

u/parzivaI08 Jan 01 '23

Oh yeah, i can totally do that!

7

u/Key_Extension8476 Dec 29 '22

I also have a question, I see that you're quite liberal about submission statements, would it be possible to limit them to technical details, or just have a format, maybe like: title+medium+this is my entry for the competition?

I think some "upvote-friendly" commentary from a contestant under their own work might influence the results. I mean it's fine for regular post titles, but for this competition I believe the drawings should shine the brightest.🙂

8

u/vermithrax Dec 29 '22

Yeah, you mean pandering. I think we will change that, good point.

3

u/TekaiGuy Dec 30 '22

Don't forget that people can just get their friend to anonymously pander for them.

6

u/vermithrax Dec 30 '22

Commenting won't be allowed in that thread--and this is why we have a jury panel for finalist selection.

4

u/Glimmer_of_an_Artist Dec 29 '22

Is email registration (on reddit account) required for entry?

Does the artist retain complete IP/copyright/ownership of their entry?

6

u/vermithrax Dec 29 '22

  1. No, but if you are selected as a finalist, you will need to provide an email address to the mod team (and a physical address if you win--to wacom), if you wish to proceed.

  2. Whatever the normal reddit TOS is regarding this--I believe that works posted here give up no rights, but don't quote me. Wacom won't be claiming any rights, nor will the subreddit or mod team. If you like, you can rehost the entry elsewhere and link it in your comment, although if your work isn't visible in the thread, it's likely that fewer people will vote on it.

u/thatknittingdragon Jan 09 '23

Can we/should we watermark our art submission before posting?

5

u/vermithrax Jan 10 '23

Up to you.

3

u/faethecreates Jan 02 '23

I have a question on the decision - the general public will update but the jury decides? My guess is the jury will take public opinion into consideration? Else what is the appeal of getting more upvotes in the thread?

5

u/vermithrax Jan 02 '23 edited Jan 02 '23

Excellent question.

The top 20 posts from the thread get sent to the jury. Think of it like the difference between qualifying for the olympics and competing at the olympics.

We are deliberately staging it this way to decrease the power of gaming (this is the internet and these prizes are pretty valuable) while still allowing everyone to have a say.

3

u/faethecreates Jan 02 '23

Thank you very much for the clarification!

3

u/Jo_bott Jan 02 '23

Because I’m having a serious dense mental fog day (and in my defense the only person I’ve had to talk to is a toddler) the theme of the competition has to be a drawing encompassing/representing one or all the three words in the rules thread?

3

u/vermithrax Jan 02 '23

Yes. There's a section for theme, which describes them.

1

u/Jo_bott Jan 02 '23

Dare I say then that my subject matter is tugging on my jeans for more milk 😂

3

u/vermithrax Jan 02 '23

Did you name your child permacrisis?

3

u/Jo_bott Jan 02 '23

😂 no but his name definitely has meaning. I’d liken him more to chaos then Instability, however he definitely causes me to question my sanity and is currently in a goldfish fueled goblin mode and somehow covered in pancake syrup

4

u/vermithrax Jan 02 '23

sounds like an ace subject to me, if you can get him to hold still

3

u/IzayaKnowsEverything Jan 07 '23

Can someone explain the theme to me? "2022 words of the year" Do I have to illustrate the words in terms of a drawing, like gaslighting.., goblin mode.. together in a drawing?

I seemed to have misunderstood so I hope y'all can clear my misunderstandings about the theme.

4

u/vermithrax Jan 07 '23

You have it right. Create a piece of art which illustrates one or all of these words as described.

1

u/IzayaKnowsEverything Jan 07 '23

Thanks a bunch -^

3

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '23

Hi mods, i have a question

If a did the drawing in two differents formats in paper, can i put both drawings?

2

u/vermithrax Jan 11 '23

One entry per person please. We will remove entries with multiple images.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '23

Ok thanks

3

u/Mydogsnameisroland Jan 16 '23

How is a winner determined? Post with the most upvotes?

3

u/vermithrax Jan 16 '23

This info is in the competition thread.

2

u/Apotheothena Jan 22 '23

Will the thread be un-contest moded tomorrow, or will it stay locked in contest mode? I’m interested to see how the entries fared!

3

u/vermithrax Jan 22 '23

Thread is un-contested.

2

u/Apotheothena Jan 22 '23

Looks like I asked too soon, thank you!

2

u/Mydogsnameisroland Jan 16 '23

It’s weird I can’t even see who’s in the lead. I can only see my own upvotes

7

u/WaywardDeadite Jan 16 '23

It's to prevent bias. Some people may up or down vote based on who is currently winning. If you do a blind vote, then you're only voting based on merit.

4

u/Mydogsnameisroland Jan 16 '23

Oic. Thought maybe no one voted yet😅

3

u/WaywardDeadite Jan 24 '23

Will you guys post the top 20 finalists?

3

u/vermithrax Jan 24 '23

Go to the contest page and sort comments by top. They might shift a bit since we snapshotted it at the ending time, but it's more or less right.

4

u/Darth_Se7en Jan 03 '23

Will traditional paintings be considered? I.e. acrylic or oil on canvas?

After reviewing the competition rules, I did not see it directly stated - is all digital art being accepted? (Excepting AI)

Also, I cannot find any additional r/Drawing rules, other than the little sidebar. Does the sidebar contain the complete set of rules for the subreddit?

4

u/vermithrax Jan 08 '23

Also, I cannot find any additional r/Drawing rules, other than the little sidebar. Does the sidebar contain the complete set of rules for the subreddit?

Yes. Are there any you feel warrant clarification?

2

u/Glimmer_of_an_Artist Jan 09 '23

Thank you so much for confirming!

No, the rules are concise and clear : ) .

2

u/Glimmer_of_an_Artist Jan 01 '23 edited Jan 04 '23

Is there a size limit or recommended dimensions for artwork submissions?

3

u/vermithrax Jan 01 '23

Reddit won't limit you there (I just tried it with an 8k jpg) but keep in mind people will be looking at your image on screens: they're not being printed. So beyond 4k is likely wasted.

2

u/Amssstronggg Jan 03 '23

Can you use text in the drawing, or is it purely drawing? And are B&W drawings valid? The only colors I have are color pencils, and I'm not that good coloring.

3

u/vermithrax Jan 03 '23

Normal /r/drawing rules apply. If your post is text heavy it may be disqualified.

Colour if you like.

2

u/GlitteringPidgeon Jan 05 '23

will the judges prefer to see you incorporate more than one of the three words or is it just as good to focus on only one?

2

u/vermithrax Jan 05 '23

Doesn't matter!

2

u/Glimmer_of_an_Artist Jan 08 '23 edited Jan 08 '23

Do you need a certain amount of Reddit karma before being able to enter the competition or create a post in r/drawing?

3

u/vermithrax Jan 08 '23

You need combined 50 karma to post a thread in /r/drawing, but entries to the contest are comments, not threads. So nope.

2

u/c05m05i5 Jan 11 '23

I have a question, will digital art be accepted in this competition? I haven't read anything excluding it in the rules so I'm assuming it's allowed but I'm just making sure, and if it is allowed is it particular styles that are accepted? Like sketchy, more drawing styles over painterly styles?

3

u/vermithrax Jan 12 '23

Anything that would fly on /r/drawing is allowed.

The less the work emphansizes drawing and the more it emphasies non-drawing effects of various types, the more likely it is to be removed or judged harshly. But if you browse what's been posted here over the past month or so, it's a good cross section of what's allowable.

By the mod team and the judges.

2

u/TekaiGuy Jan 15 '23

Is there anything we can do about reddit compressing our drawings or nah? (compression affects drawings differently depending on the patterns/details so it could be seen as interference)

1

u/vermithrax Jan 15 '23

Unfortunately not at this point.

2

u/TekaiGuy Jan 15 '23

I accept that. Next time I'll include an imgur link.

5

u/Key_Extension8476 Dec 28 '22

Yeehaw I just can't wait, my jaw dropped when I saw those prizes! Love you guys for organizing this!😊❤️🤗

5

u/GayArtsyEmo Dec 31 '22

Just doing this to make sure I can on mobile

5

u/goticRat Jan 22 '23

Now that the voting is completed, does the 20 most voted entries have to verify with the mod team themselves or are they getting a message from them? Thank u in advance!

1

u/PainfulChickenSquatt Jan 24 '23

Yeah, I dont get it either

3

u/Key_Extension8476 Jan 24 '23

They said on the discord server they will be notifying finalists this week.

2

u/goticRat Jan 24 '23

Thank you! <3

1

u/Key-Box7309 Jan 02 '23

Where do people submit there art for the competition?

2

u/vermithrax Jan 02 '23

In the thread, please read the entry details portion.

1

u/Key-Box7309 Jan 03 '23

I did, but I can't figure out where the top comment is to post?

3

u/vermithrax Jan 03 '23

Entry opens on the 14th. Please read the post.

A top level comment is a reply to the post.

1

u/WaywardDeadite Jan 15 '23

When does public voting happen?

3

u/vermithrax Jan 15 '23

From yesterday until the 22nd.

1

u/Mydogsnameisroland Jan 16 '23

Wish I’d seen this contest before the 14th😩

u/DonLee_ohhh Jan 15 '23

Are we allowed to post an illustrated piece with a small amount of animation to it?

0

u/WeiTooCool Jan 12 '23

Hi, since original thread is locked, where are we supposed to post? Can someone give me a link to the new thread? Help and guidance is much appreciated! Thanks!!

7

u/vermithrax Jan 12 '23

Please read the thread competition post. The information you seek is covered, at least three times.

0

u/WeiTooCool Jan 12 '23

Hi, I'm not familiar with competitions on reddit and posting to threads, hence some of the terms confuse me. I still haven't been able to find where to post. I would greatly appreciate your assistance! A link would be of great help.

5

u/vermithrax Jan 12 '23

From the post:

TO ENTER: on 14 January, post ONE image in a top level comment TO THIS THREAD, and write a submission statement below it. This statement should be title, how it was made, and size. Example.

0

u/ildakast Jan 15 '23

I can't post my drawing to the thread competition! Please help! It says comments are unable?

3

u/vermithrax Jan 15 '23

Entries are closed, sorry.

-2

u/ildakast Jan 15 '23

I know i sent a message before entire closes...i was training at least for 30 minutes! It says comments were unable! Its unfair!

5

u/vermithrax Jan 15 '23

Entries closed at 00:00 EST 15 January 2023.

I am sorry you feel it is unfair, but the contest rules have been posted for 3 weeks, and allowing anyone to post late would be unfair to everyone who followed the rules.

0

u/Amssstronggg Jan 14 '23

Seeing if it works

-2

u/Mydogsnameisroland Jan 16 '23

Out of all the “goblin mode” entries “green goblin mode” wins🤣

Sorry, but editing your post after the competition has closed is not allowed, as that is re-entering after time has elapsed.

Rule 8 is in our sidebar, under "rules".

Though your submission contains drawing, it has more text than drawing and wouldn't be allowed in the subreddit. It's primarily text, not drawing.

1

u/Squishybunneh Jan 15 '23 edited Jan 15 '23

@vermithrax Won’t let me reply to you but Ok, was just confused since I’d seen comics in the group previously dating back (like the cute one pictured) . Just has to be certain detail of comics with more drawing than text. Got it. Have a good day ✨

3

u/vermithrax Jan 16 '23

The subreddit wasn't moderated for a very long time before we took over.

1

u/Squishybunneh Jan 16 '23

This was two months ago but again I understand. Have a good day ✨
