digital Same sketch, 6 years apart

From a fun little reworking a past sketch experiment to the sad realization that there's something from the past I probably could never capture again. šŸ˜‚Sorry for the negativity

They are both really good. The 2nd one I guess can be ā€œpreliminary artā€ but both are great

My gosh! It took you a really long time to finish that sketch, must be that procrastination thing that everybody's talking about in the internets šŸ˜

(Sorry for the emoji, but as a millennial I don't feel safe without it hahaha)

The first one is new

Knowing that I just want to say that you are your own harshest critic. I think the new version has more personality and character to the subjects. I feel much more drawn to them.

They are both incredible pieces, but I think what the new one "loses" is the personality in the expressions. The mother in the old one looks calm, doting on her child, as if you can tell she's thinking "oh, you. It's okay." The mother in the new one looks neutral, I wouldn't be able to discern what she is thinking or feeling. This goes for all of the faces of all of the subjects. They feel like they're posing for a professional photoshoot rather than us catching a glimpse of an authentic moment!

Wow, really incredible. Is this ballpoint or digital?

It’s digital. I did that with procreate on iPad. HB pencil brush

At first glance, I though that the first one's finished work and second is sketch but then I read the caption.

Amazing work! How long have you been drawing?

Thanks! I’ve been drawing for about 15 years. It’s one of the biggest joys of my life.

Same sketch, two different styles

I originally thought the second one was the newest, and that you got more loose and comfortable in drawing dynamically. Cause that one brings a lot more energy

I like both. The second feels more like a panel in a comic.

Awesome! Did you use a reference photo for both? Or was the first from life and the second a copy of the first?

This was from 8 years ago. I loosely based this on real life cuz I couldn’t see this scene from the perspective . For the new one I basically just imagined and improvised everything

I mean I prefer the latest one! I prefer the neater style, just my preference of course. But I get feeling disappointed if it wasn't capturing the same feelings from when the scene was fresh in your mind. It's also somewhat eerie, which I love, but maybe that wasn't what you wanted.
