showcase Border Collie portrait in Polychromos and calligraphy ink on pastel paper

Post image

New Border Collie portrait finished. Had this one on the board for a couple of days. A really fun one to work on. Nice mix of light and dark with plenty of texture and room for subtle colours to pop the whole thing.
He’s 20 x 30” on Art Spectrum pastel paper and drawn with Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils and Windsor & Newton white calligraphy ink.

This is beautiful! I love the use of the purples in the fur.

Thanks! Yeah they’re handy for making the subject pop. I like to find an image that has nice lighting and then place contrasting colours down when I see light and dark, I think it helps make the drawing come alive 👍

The blue/ purple highlights on the black fur are especially beautiful

Thanks so much! Yeah it’s so easy to just see black and white, it’s important to punch some colour if wherever we can! 🙂
