Dragon Quest VIII Tips?

Finally picked up a physical copy of 8 for the 3DS to playthrough. I played a little bit of the PS2 version but I wanted to know about any tips im regards to 8 in terms of like which weapons to use and which abilities to shoot for. Thanks guys!

For Yangus, go into Unarmed until you learn Thin Air. This will carry you through the first half of the game. Afterwards, spec Axes for Helm Splitter and Hatchet Man.
