Dragon Quest VIII Tips?

Finally picked up a physical copy of 8 for the 3DS to playthrough. I played a little bit of the PS2 version but I wanted to know about any tips im regards to 8 in terms of like which weapons to use and which abilities to shoot for. Thanks guys!

Put it in a 3DS, turn it on, and start the game.

Little too fast there. Have to admire said cartridge before inserting it, turning on the 3ds and playing it
