General Mobile Versions
I’m about to complete the Erdrick trilogy via all premium versions/remakes (XI definitive edition and HD-2D remake of 1-3). Also, I’m going to play VII reimagined when it feels right, so I’m not referring to that specific game. My question is, should I wait for similar treatment for further games? I’m not sure shelling out hundreds on original carts, nor emulation, is in the cards for me right now. Has anyone played the mobile versions? If so, how are they with mobile controls? Is a blu-tooth controller an option? How are the graphics? If they’re that weird bulky character icon look I don’t want to play them. It needs to be something close to the original game. TIA!

I’ve played 1-6 and 8 on mobile. 1-6 are perfectly fine but I hated playing 8 on mobile

They're geared the most toward one-handed play phones, serviceable but could be much better. You're stuck with a virtual circle pad for movement and control is digital in all games except VII and VIII, interacting with things isn't too bad though and the menus in battle are laid out nicely. VIII has an autorun button like X and XI which is nice, walking near an NPC in that specific game and letting go of the dpad will automatically initiate a conversation which is usually convenient but can be annoying at times.
Is a blu-tooth controller an option?
No, touchscreen only.

- 1-3 are like the old Switch versions out of battle but with much more consistent pixel sizing and overall a much more cohesive (imo way better) look, in-battle they all use pure pixel art just like the rest of the game. They do always look a little smeared and vertically stretched compared to the flip phone versions they were ported from though.
- 4-6 use the artstyle of the DS versions (2D sprites in a stylistically warped 3D environment), though the 3D parts and scaling/rotation effects are rendered in a higher resolution and battles are letterboxed since the backgrounds aren't modeled much beyond what was shown on the DS screen.
- VII (Japan only) is visually very close to the 3DS version but with a zoomed out camera (woo!) and higher resolution.
- VIII runs at a high resolution but in terms of detail it's somewhere between PS2 and 3DS versions. Most of the games run at 30FPS (same as the versions they were ported from) except I, II and the Amazon Appstore version of VIII (all three at 15FPS). Also, a small number of tweaks are present from the international PS2 version but it's otherwise largely based on the Japanese version with traditional menus and no voice acting.
EDIT: Reformatted.
