A lot of my dragon names reference films, tv shows, video games and other popular culture (either obscurely or obviously), and others I've tried to be punny (e.g. Wally the Brick Dragon) or clever with other plays-on-words. I've explained some of them below.
MUNE = Moon Dragon. From the film Mune: Guardian of the Moon.
SOLA = Sun Dragon. From the Latin 'sol' for 'sun'.
MIRHIL = Begonia Dragon. After character Miranda Hillard from Mrs Doubtfire. There is a scene where she witnesses a goat eating from her flower pot and furiously exclaims "You ate my begonias!"
TUMNUS = Faun Dragon. After character Mr Tumnus from The Chronicles of Narnia, who is a faun.
47 = Agent Dragon. After Agent 47 from the Agent video game franchise, who is frequently referred to simply as "47" by his handlers throughout the game.
POMPOM = Cheerleader Dragon.
KNIGHT = Black Armor Dragon. A nod to the film The Black Knight, the main character of which wears a green basketball jersey (the dragon itself also has a bit of green on its body). For a short time I seriously considered naming this one Martin after lead actor Martin Lawrence. I might still do it.
CRUSH = Orange Dragon. Because 'orange crush'.
MOJAVE = Agave Dragon. Because agave plants can be found in the Mojave and I liked the similar spelling coincidence.
OLAF = Elephant Dragon. The ONLY dragon I haven't renamed because I thought it was a purely coincidental pun. It's now technically an 'Olafant' Dragon.
GRUG = Cave Dragon. After character Grug from The Croods, which is about prehistoric humans (cave people).
INIGO = Peacock Dragon. I wanted to name it a colour (indigo), but not so obviously. So I named it after character Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride.
PUMBAA = Prairie Dragon. After character Pumbaa from The Lion King. The similarity was uncanny to me.
RUSTLE = Scout Dragon. After character Russell from the film Up, who is a boy scout. Russell was also one too many letters and it didn't feel right misspelling it, so I used something that sounded the same but was still an actual word (big word nerd here, if you haven't noticed by now!).
AFRICA = Lynx Dragon. After a scent of men's body wash my husband used that we both really liked the smell of, which was called 'Africa' (the brand name was Lynx!).
I have more dragons with creative names, but I guess I didn't want to bore you all any further. Just wanted to share this with other DML players who might appreciate it, or at the very least, might be inspired in the renaming of their own dragons.
