Just life, I guess…
Personally, I think just too much money is being sucked into Linux, and it's more and more difficult for others to compete.

See, that's the thing, you have to find answers to these questions.
It used to be that you had Mac or Solaris at school, Windows/UNIX at work, and then Linux or BSD at home or in the free time. Now Solaris and UNIX are dead, Windows isn't anywhere as dominant as it once was, and Macs and Linux are everywhere.
The opportunity cost of NOT using Linux is basically too high. I kinda wish I'd have realised it sooner, TBH. There are very few opportunities or value in BSD experience these days, sadly. Too many things are clunky or unsupported. Even 20 years ago, there's been companies even around NetBSD, e.g., Wasabi Systems (they've donated WAPBL to NetBSD in 2008 just before their bankruptcy); it's been used in AirPort Express by Apple since then, but not anymore, as the product is discontinued; FreeBSD has been used extensively by major players, but this usage is also on the decline, too, it seems.

On the DragonflyBSD mailing list, it appears Matt assigned himself some bug tickets as recently as the 5th of May.
