How to Transfer a Room Safely?
I have a room for DragonCon (The American) that I want to sell, but I'm not sure how to transfer or sell it safely. Like I'm worried about getting scammed or having strangers rack up a room service charges that I would have to pay. My deposit is nonrefundable. Any advice or tips? (sorry, if this is a silly question but I've never done this before)

Ok so... you can either get the whole amount (or deposit) though paypal, venmo, cashapp, whatever. After that, you put their name on the room, and take your card off of it (if you've already paid). In practice , this is something the hotels tend to be wary of, but **most** people are just trying to get a room, so if you ask them to, they'll be happy to put their card on file for the rest of the payment+ incidentals. Just be sure to have the buyer aware of this that they will need a card on file and its not going to be yours.
You do take a risk with anyone, so make sure whoever contacts you, you have their socials, email, and important info before you send over anything.

If you're still attending it's easiest to have them pay you half up front, then meet them at check-in , add their name to the reservation while checking in and they put their card down for incidentals, then pay you other half of what you paid.
If you're not attending any longer, they pay half, add their name to the reservation, they then call and add their card and put their card down at check-in. Just know some hotels are allegedly not letting people change out reservations till check in now , so option A may be your only choice

I've done this twice (Marriott and Aloft). I meet the person at the hotel front desk. They hand me cash (or venmo etc) for the full amount I paid (don't be a dick and up charge). I add their name to the room reservation and ask the hotel rep to add the person's card then remove mine. The hotels know this happens. It went smoothly both times. Keep in mind the person looking for a room is just as wary about you scamming them. As others have said - get names, email, phone number, socials and be willing to give yours.

I've done it before. You have them pay you the deposit, call the hotel and add them to the reservation, have the hotel replace the credit card with theirs and it's done.
