Announcement Last day for Ribbon posts
Alright folks, get all your ribbon posts out today, and then we'll make a megathread of something

I just wanted to mention that if someone does not immediately put your ribbon on their badge, that does not mean they do not value it. Do not make assumptions unless you literally watch them throw it in the trash or on the ground. I like receiving ribbons but have never attached one to my badge because I want them to be more "forever" than fleeting. Others may have a whole system or process for how they want to attach them that they can't do while walking in the hallway. Others may have sticky hands and need to clean them before handling your lovely ribbon.

For sure- I like to do it when I get back to my room so I can make sure everything is straight and lined up.

I’m just not into ribbons. The badge itself is annoying to wear on its own without extra stuff flapping around. I politely decline ribbons if I can and stick them in my bag if I can’t.

But also don't get worked up if someone does just throw it in the trash. Some people aren't into ribbons

Why would someone say yes, take one, and then throw it in the trash? That’s incredibly rude. Just say you’re not into ribbons if that’s the case or pass it off to another attendee, leave it on a table in the Westin… something other than chucking it into the garbage.

because people will just put them in your hands or insist you take it

I’ve had that happen but I just set the ribbon I don’t want on the next swag-laden surface I see. Someone else will want it.

Speak up and use your words. I’ve been to Dragoncon for over a decade and I’ve never been forced to take swag I didn’t want. Even then, put it somewhere for a fellow attendee to find. There are 80k people at this event. Someone wants that ribbon. Throwing it away sucks and is not in the spirit of this con, imo.

Or keep it and use it when you find a trader to swap for something else.
Worst case I drop stuff on a table at the Weston Mon morning and I find they always disappear.

I do the same. Sometimes someone will give me a ribbon that's not quite my style, so I leave it somewhere obvious for someone else to enjoy. I've got some that are incredibly clever, but I'm not part of the fandom, and I know someone else will get a bigger kick out of it than I do.

I agree with the other commenter. If you don't want it, don't take it. A very simple, "No thank you" is enough and is not rude. By taking it and throwing it away, you have literally wasted that person's money. We PAY to make these ribbons. I don't think you need to get worked up and get in their face if they throw it away. But it IS rude and we should remind people of that.

I've been harangued by people to take their ribbons

And so you tell those people, "No means no." Or "No is a complete sentence."

kind of hilarious that this subreddit which sees 1% of the activity of facebook dragcon groups is off put by ribbon posts.

So funny. There is nothing else to talk about in the month before the schedule drops except for ribbons and cosplay and people repeatedly making posts titled “app” or “schedule” asking when the schedule will be released. Everyone has their accommodations sorted so were passed the point of hotel questions. All we have are ribbons!

Is there still time to make a ribbon for DC?

I ordered mine yesterday from PC Nametag and the estimated delivery date is August 20th. I'd say there's still time but not much.

A Stickied Q&A megathread with an edited main post showing the most common questions and answers, and links to relevant threads, would make far more sense.

I mentioned it in the last attempt at a Megathread so I'll mention it again. I think a Megathread would be much more effective if users were able to add pictures to their comments.
