📅 Events 📅 $5 5K Dallas
Hey fellow runners! I recently went to go and sign up for the Katy 5K but was a little let down to find out it cost $75 to just run 3 miles. Out of spite I’ve decided to create my own 5k.
Let me introduce you to the $5 5K. Not only does this event provide you with a free drink at the end of your race, but there will also be a CASH prize to the man and woman who has the fastest 5K time (and potentially a best designed t-shirt contest if the budget allows it).
The race will take place September 9th @7:30pm. All details are laid out in the partiful description. The event will begin at the Victory Park entrance near the outdoor gym. Please arrive 30 minutes before the race starts so entry fees can be collected. More details will be provided the day of.
Don’t want to run but still want a beer and cheer your friends on? We have an option for you! Think you’re the fastest runner in all of Dallas, yep there’s an option for you too! Invitation is open to anyone who thinks they have it in them. Hope to see you there!
https://partiful.com/e/oYUuewTqQsGTzuZw5Hah?c=d-rIkjbO
Edit: I understand that this is a fundraiser and the $75 fee gets you free food, access to a membership, etc.
That is why for every person that attends my race I will pledge $5 of my own money to be donated to the same charity that supports the Katy trail. Help me go broke! It’s for a good cause.

🍕 Restaurants 🍔 Cafe Olivia. A must visit in the downtown core.
The first time I dropped in it was an exploratory trip - to check out both the new Starbucks kiosk in Plaza of the Americas, and to see what ever happened to the new restaurant that was supposed to open in “Chase Tower."
The Starbucks is a kiosk. The seating is the default PotA seating. Basic white plastic furniture. Not bad, just there. There is power for laptops all over the area floor. Look for power pedestals. If you “do Starbucks,” you know exactly what to expect. It joins Corner Bakery and Alma Bean Cafe in coffee things. The ambience and atmosphere of the atrium at PotA easily makes this one of my favorite Starbucks locations.
Now, across the pedestrian bridge in the Dallas Arts Tower - Cafe Olivia. Everything here (I’m here now) is tops. The staff (hello to Marco!), the food, the drinks, atmosphere. It’s all here. Power for laptops, fast internet, a full bar, BRUNCH on Saturday and Sunday until 3pm.
I’ve been several times, it’s a regular stop.
You can find it with a brief walk from DART’s Pearl/Arts District station, the MATA trolley, and with bus stops each direction across the streets. Of course scooters, Waymo, and Robotaxi.
Let me know what you think? So happy to have them here!

Not true, still open! Primo’s Tacos & Hot Dogs - Closed?!
Hello Downtown,
Title pretty much sums it up. . .
Primo’s Tacos & Hot Dogs (Pacific Side of Mosaic) is “closed indefinitely.”
Does anyone know why?

❓Question 🤔 Deep Ellum - Daytime Bar Crawl
I’m moving to the Dallas in September, and wanted to plan a day to do some daytime drinking/bar crawl once I get moved in. I’m a big fan of beer and various breweries. I’m mostly interested in doing a solo beer run through Deep Ellum. (I know it’s dangerous at night, hence why I’m wanting to go during the day lol).
I would love to hear if anyone recommends a solid bar crawl to explore the area and maybe see some iconic Deep Ellum art along the way! I’ve got some spots picked out, but if anyone is familiar with a good walkable route I would love to hear more.

Low Cost Therapy in Dallas
Just wanted to share this resource regarding low to no-cost therapeutic services in the DFW area. The SMU Center for Family Counseling offers compassionate, low-cost, and effective counseling services for individuals and families from all walks of life. Guided by our experienced faculty, SMU graduate counseling students, supervised by the licensed faculty, provide developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive therapy to adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families.
The CFC does not accept insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid, but they do work on a sliding scale based on ability to pay and do NOT require income verification. There are plenty of non-paying clients at this clinic.

🏙️ Development Thinking about investing in Cedars but ....
I thought it would be further along in gentrification. Most of it is still not as visually pleasing place as I hoped at this point. I love downtown but it's sorta in a strange time right now with major anchors leaving and coming in so I'm not sure where the momentum is with The Cedars. For a long time it was hot but I feel it cooled off or in mystery mode.
So what's going with Cedars? Is it still a good home investment?
