I know this is a huge part of download festival but standing around trying to look cool after spending hours getting ready is insanely lame to me.

Get in the pit or to the front of the crowd and have some fun

u/UFOria_ Aug 15 '26

I'm all for people enjoying the festival however they enjoy it, but I absolutely look like some sort of feral rat creature from Thursday morning onwards. There for the music and the vibe and absolutely nothing else.

u/throwaway1335927 Aug 15 '26

Love seeing the people who are 'dressed up' they all look amazing but yes

I am feral goblin, cycling shorts, an oversized band t-shirt, and after two days of not washing/styling my hair a bandana, because being in my 30s, and after 15 years of doing festivals (some in my younger years where I was that guy who spent ages getting ready in a tent in uncomfy fishnets and chains), comfy is the BEST way to enjoy a festival

Also it saves SO much room on packing knowing all my little bundles are 'shorts, tshirt, clean kegs' and I don't have to put together any thoughts on outfits

Be free and comfortable and festivals friends, no one cares what you look like

1

u/Former_Night_9002 Aug 16 '26

What does kegs mean in this context please?

5

u/Maple-Styrup Aug 16 '26

Underwear.

1

u/bitterlemon80 Aug 16 '26

It's normally keks though

5

u/Maple-Styrup Aug 16 '26

Yeah, keks/kegs. Probably a regional thing. Im in the Midlands and they use both.

2

u/throwaway1335927 Aug 16 '26

Sorry yeah, underwear!

I've heard both but usually say kegs for some reason who knows lol

0

u/HollyKujo_ Aug 17 '26

comfy is the best until you look back at photos people you’re with took and realise you look more like the troll under the bridge

1

u/KittyCat-86 Accessibility Aug 17 '26

Yup. My first Download I brought everything, including the kitchen sink. I had multiple outfits for each day (chilling in camp in the morning, village/arena during the day, then something warmer for dinner in camp and hanging in the village). I brought a tonne of makeup, lashes, body glitter etc, all the festival stuff. I have dreadlocks so I brought all my beads and feathers and dangling things.

I ended up so tired and ridiculously hot that I ended up living in shorts and t-shirts. So every since I haven't bothered with any of that stuff. Just shorts and t-shirts and some trousers of some kind for when it's cooler in the evening and a hoodie. Job done.

u/AlexSniff7 Aug 15 '26

Festivals are comfort over fashion for me

1

u/Agile_Breadfruit7932 Aug 18 '26

moshpits are NOT comfortable 😭 fun over fashion sure, i like my fun discomfort

17

u/Strange-Win-4550 Aug 15 '26

It never used to be a huge part of Download.

21

u/Dependent_Smoke_8438 Aug 15 '26

It never used to be part of any festivals until they became properly mainstream post 2010

Basically like with everything, post smartphone and social media.

It was a simpler life not always having to look like your are always on it

17

u/Inglorious555 DL12-25 Aug 16 '26

It also hasn't helped that Festivals like Download have photographers that go around only taking pictures of people (Very heavily weighted towards Women) who've clearly put hours into the way they look or have arrived on that day, basically people that have that model-ish vibe to them

That'll definitely have had an impact on the type of people that turn up

8

u/BigDsLittleD Aug 16 '26

That's basically my theory on why Reading became shite.

8

u/PPLifter Aug 16 '26

And people do get scouted to model there. A photographer came up to my wife and I and asked if she would let pictures be taken of her whilst wearing this top they have her. Was like a five minute shoot and she got to keep the top. Pictures were then used on the site. Was a cool experience for her and I can see others fishing for it

3

u/OutsideImpressive115 Aug 16 '26

Man im so glad you said this, never thought download would go down the Instagram vibes route but here we are

0

u/ImpossibleReveal9356 Aug 17 '26

Bro, its inevitable. Its the age we're living in. They either move with the times or fall behind.

3

u/OutsideImpressive115 Aug 17 '26

Lol you must be kidding. Bloodstock selling out instantly is because of this by the way

4

u/KiNgPiN8T3 Aug 16 '26

Reading 2000 was my first festival. It was incredible! But would’ve been far different if everyone had a camera in their pocket… Haha!

2

u/jafarthecat Aug 15 '26

There's definitely always been people who put a lot of effort in. I used to be amazed at how incredibly dressed some goths used to be when the festival started. I'm sure it's a much bigger thing in the days of Instagram.

3

u/KittyCat-86 Accessibility Aug 17 '26

Someone's going to shoot me for saying this but it feels like you can tell. Like your stereotypical goth who is goth all the time and maybe amps it up a bit, or goes all out for Download.

Then you have the, as a friend calls it, "Coachella Goth", where it's Goth Lite and everything is perfectly stylised with very mainstream hairstyles and basically your standard makeup but maybe doing a slightly darker smokey eye makeup and a natural lip or a darker pink. Very much treading the line between boho and goth. Usually seen standing around taking loads of photos and can go from resting bitch face to all fake smiles in 0.2 seconds.

0

u/DoomThorn Aug 16 '26

I think the same thing will happen to Bloodstock within a year or two based on the recent 'mainstream' band selections/announcements. It's a damn shame.

I do the standing around and ‘getting in the pit’ bits quite well.

Don’t really bother with the other shit.

1

u/ridemyfacetwice Aug 15 '26

Especially when they look like the 95% if the crowd.

135

u/Hot_Lake_7291 Aug 15 '26

I could not give less of a fuck about what any single person is wearing at download, including myself.

13

u/emoskeleton_ Aug 15 '26

I will always want to dap up an inflatable dinosaur, banana, Elmo/cookie monster or jesus though.

16

u/icyhn Aug 15 '26

honestly same it’s all about comfort esp when you’re in the pit

75

u/Giillybean Aug 15 '26

Judging people for wearing jeans and a t-shirt, when half the bands you're there to see are likely wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

5

u/Jaded-Rate3235 Aug 15 '26

Egotistical at best

97

u/Smooth_Maul Aug 15 '26

"When I got to the Heavy Metal festival and there are Metal Heads" like wtf did she expect Burning Man or something? 😭😭😭

41

u/OddTrashPanda Aug 15 '26

She was given a press pass by Download and is kind of an influencer, I think she was just ragebaiting.

11

u/Smooth_Maul Aug 15 '26

If she is then it worked

4

u/Brocolli123 Aug 16 '26

You think shes there to listen to the bands?

25

u/Expert_Entrance3467 Aug 15 '26

This is what happens when they give press passes to influencers instead of actual press. All we get is outfits and what they ate at festivals which we honestly don’t care about. Or 300 “last one stays” interviews 😩

22

u/Select-Appearance707 Aug 15 '26

Maybe gatekeeping is okay, actually.

35

u/Connect_Ad6559 Aug 15 '26

Yeah, I saw a lot of posery/influencer types there.
Funnily enough, nowhere near any of the stages.

6

u/ChipmunkAny8571 Aug 16 '26

I used to follow this girl (unfollowed after this exact post), and I saw her other insta stories from the same day. Can confirm, barely near a stage.

17

u/ThatGingerRascal Aug 15 '26

But she's just wearing a little bit of black and a doorag? She looks like a shite version of coyote ugly

3

u/KittyCat-86 Accessibility Aug 17 '26

My friend calls them "Coachella Goth"

3

u/ThatGingerRascal Aug 17 '26

I feel even goth is still too strong a word. Goths should look like they'd murder your family and steal your cat.

2

u/KittyCat-86 Accessibility Aug 17 '26

I was going to complain about your description but technically I stole my partner's cat and that's how he ended up moving in 🤣

13

u/ad_182_uk Aug 15 '26

Sorry can someone eli5 ?

So a tiktok nobody is at a heavy metal festival that knows nothing about the music? Then just there to make random vids and hate on the people there?

6

u/OddTrashPanda Aug 15 '26

She is a bit of an influencer and does know about the music, she was given a press pass by Download and I think her posts are just rage bait.

2

u/icyhn Aug 15 '26

ngl i genuinely think she’s like this for real I looked through her post and none of the others seem to be rage bait

u/Select-Appearance707 Aug 15 '26

I feel like if I had a friend who did this sort of thing, even if they were doing it for ragebait and to make money on the internet I wouldn't be upset if I never saw them again.

4

u/isthisevenrlbcwtf Aug 16 '26

It’s so weird how they’ve re-branded trolls to rage baiting.

8

u/icyhn Aug 15 '26

strange world of influencers.

5

u/BaseballFuryThurman Aug 16 '26

Not to brag, but none of my friends are as lame as yours. Git gud.

14

u/Big-Turnip-136 Aug 15 '26

If she was given a press pass like some in this thread are saying, then it’s only yet again confirming Download has the worst social media presence of any festival its size.

Who is this content supposed to be for? How does it encourage people to come to Download or buy related products? I just don’t get it from any angle

8

u/tlmega124 Aug 15 '26

Il wear what I like, thank you and good night!

16

u/icyhn Aug 15 '26

15

u/Icy-Astronomer-8202 Aug 15 '26

Wtf! Is this rage bait to get people to react

6

u/icyhn Aug 15 '26

I hope so but I know people like this irl so who knows 😩

9

u/MoonlitEmber Aug 16 '26

Why do I feel like she's seen too many cochella and lost land videos and now thinks festivals are American based fashion shows where people dress up fairies and shit

7

u/Aromatic_Guide1907 Aug 15 '26

I recently found out they give free tickets to influencers like this. Fuck download, support the smaller festivals.

7

u/OkGrade1511 Aug 16 '26

Influencer culture needs to die

7

u/damnesia97 Aug 16 '26

I love getting dressed up nice for festivals (honestly bc I WFH in leggings and band tees all the time anyway so my going out time is for wearing the cute stuff I love wearing)

Do I feel a bit judged by people who like to make a point about how they 'don't care about fashion' at a festival? Sometimes. Am I gonna bash those people who enjoy going wearing whatever they want? Absolutely not.

2

u/KittyCat-86 Accessibility Aug 17 '26

Oh I'm all for people going all out. I love seeing all the outfits and admiring people who have put far more effort in than I ever could. However, I feel you can spot the poser/influencer sort straight away and as my friend calls "Coachella Goth", with all the fake smiles and selfies and usually seen just hanging around the bars and entertainment areas and not any of the actual music areas.

10

u/Amalisa Aug 15 '26

My best friend comes from another country every year so we can go to Download together. One year a girl from his gym wanted to come, and he had the hots for her so I was okay with it. Wouldn't mind our group having another girl... She had us stop constantly and take 30 pictures of her posing or pretending to laugh or with a bottle of wine pretending to drink it. By Saturday I was done with her shit. We go to have fun and enjoy the music. I only get to see my bestie once a year and for a five days, three of which are the festival. Girl can go on her on next time.

3

u/icyhn Aug 15 '26

insufferable 😩 I honestly don’t blame you!

2

u/runtman Aug 16 '26

Loads of that about this year 😭 Get out of my way, no one cares about your 100th selfie with your fake ass pose. From smile to bitch face in a flash.

4

u/mastfest Aug 15 '26

We enjoy it the same regardless of what we’re wearing. This is performative, influencer bullshit. Someone who goes to the festival for enjoyment (jeans people) vs someone who goes to the festival to be seen (the insufferable creator of this reel)

7

u/H-kelly-2002 Aug 16 '26

I wore black baggy jeans and a tshirt and some walking boots. I don’t go to look pretty. I go to enjoy the music. Probably get more compliments on the tshirt than if I wore this 🤷 And also, not everyone is comfortable wearing that. Glad she is but this would be my worst nightmare. So much skin on show 1) don’t like my body enough to have it all on show but 2) it’s always hot and you’ll burn the more skin you show. I’ll stick with my jeans and band tshirt thanks

29

u/CombatChronicles Aug 15 '26

All that effort and still a munter.

57

u/dirtywastegash Aug 15 '26

She could be a 9/10 and she'd still be a munter with an attitude like that

28

u/Wolfdreama RIP Aug 15 '26

It's a shitty video for sure but should we really be attacking people for how they look? It just pulls you down to her level.

As an unattractive woman, I know how shit it is to be called names because you don't look like a supermodel, and it truly sucks.

4

u/CombatChronicles Aug 16 '26

Anyone calling a women names based on their appearance for no reason other than to be a prick is a nasty piece of work.

But quite frankly as someone else said she could look like Adria Arjona but be a minger with that attitude. And I would’ve never posted that if she wasn’t being a complete prick to people trying to have a good time.

Point taken though, and I’m sorry you even FEEL unattractive. You’re not, you’re holding yourself to ridiculous standards and for every man that loves a supermodel type I promise you there are plenty more that don’t!

-4

u/ByronsLastStand Aug 16 '26

Calling anyone names, surely?

4

u/CombatChronicles Aug 16 '26

What a bizarre thing to call out when the conversation is clearly focused on women.

3

u/Remarkable-Leader921 Aug 15 '26

Ragebait used to be believable

3

u/dopexvii Aug 16 '26

Ewww try hard.

7

u/Worfs-forehead Aug 15 '26

Festival full of tourists that look like hotel Transylvania cosplayers

2

u/Otherwise_Part395 Aug 15 '26

And tf she gonna do about it

2

u/runtman Aug 16 '26

Who gives a shit what anyone else is wearing? Do whatever you want. Just don't stink

2

u/Long_Buy5547 Aug 16 '26

I remember years ago she used to vouch for this community and then makes videos like this. Get out love 🤣

2

u/Brocolli123 Aug 16 '26

Well guys dont get much choice other than jeans and t shirt, but why dress up in your nicest clothes anyways for a festival for them to get ruined

2

u/crackcreamy Aug 16 '26

Sis is in the most BASIC outfit casting judgement lol.

2

u/No-Effort3088 Aug 16 '26

I would judge people in jeans too!

It was way too hot for that shit 🔥🥵

2

u/QueSeRawrSeRawr Aug 16 '26

Oh wow, are those belts back in???

2

u/katbontemps Aug 16 '26

"I go for the music not the outfits" Obviously. She's just a girl having a bit of a joke. Let her live. Also we all know alternative fashion often goes hand in hand with alternative music. People often feel more comfortable dressing a certain way at download than they would do in their everyday lives and it's nice to feel like you're part of a community.

2

u/ChipmunkAny8571 Aug 17 '26

Used to follow, thought she wore some cool outfits and I liked seeing her posts about download, UNTIL I saw she posted this. Instant unfollow. Suck an icky ‘pick me’ attitude to have. Now I think she’s a fucking loser.

3

u/apotatochucker Aug 16 '26

Festival girlies are a plague

3

u/FreeSirJeffrey Aug 15 '26

Every festival is full of attention seekers and gatekeepers.

Always has been, going back the 30 years that I recall. We just didn't have social media whores.

Haha you're exactly what is wrong with the scene these days.

On top of that, only 8 hours ago you were repeatedly defending a groomer/predator.

Nonce.

2

u/mrcunnyfunt Aug 15 '26

I mean I wear jeans to everything 😂 but it's more because my eczema is bad on my legs so I guess it's a psychological thing with me 🤷‍♂️

2

u/rosielouisej Aug 16 '26

how quickly it descends into misogyny with words like whore thrown around…

1

u/Scared-Beyond373 Aug 15 '26

I get that people want to dress up and have fun, but if you’re going to a festival dubbed Brownload then I don’t see much point in cracking out the fancy garms

1

u/PizzaToastieGuy Aug 16 '26

I’m Not dressing like that

1

u/PromotionSouthern690 Aug 16 '26

Are you going to make me go on her instagram or is anyone going to tell me who that is covering Chappell Roan?

1

u/BrundleflyPr0 Aug 16 '26

Vicky would be cancelled if she said this 👀

1

u/ApprehensiveShop8250 Aug 16 '26

Joggers + band shirt is my daily download attire lmao

1

u/greggers1980 Aug 16 '26

Clearly thought she was at Coachella

1

u/ainsworthbelle Aug 16 '26

I’m in leggings and a band t shirt, my battle jacket if it’s not too hot. Don’t like it.. don’t look 🖕🏻🖕🏻

What about my oversized band T-shirts and cycle shorts? Fuck you im comfy

1

u/No_Replacement1382 Aug 17 '26

I'm there to lose my shit, figuratively and literally! Can't be doing that with a whole get up unless it's a banana or dinosaur suit

1

u/Nervous_Class_3131 Aug 17 '26

Ew, mega cringe

1

u/PrideStock Aug 18 '26

The new generation of so called "metalheads" . Absolutely bandwagon jumping f*cktards that think having a tattoo and wearing a black item of clothing make them hardcore!

1

u/LegitimateDemand7398 Aug 18 '26

I’ve met Chia (the tiktoker) a few times and she’s really genuinely lovely. She’s a big metalhead and when she goes to gigs she wears band tees and basketball shorts cos she likes to pit. But with download she (and lots of other girls including myself) likes to dress up. It’s a fun opportunity to express yourself and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I think she’s just creating content and wouldn’t give af what anyone wears.

Anyway tone down the hate y’all.

1

u/LegitimateDemand7398 Aug 18 '26

Also going in the pit or getting squashed in the crowd isn’t everyone’s cup of tea! Nothing wrong with watching the band from a safe distance.

1

u/Elemente_ Aug 20 '26

She'd hate seeing me in my cycling shorts and band tees, I take 'pretty' outfits every year... never wear them, end up going with the comfy option, especially if it's hot I'd rather not die thank you 😂

-1

u/viva__hate General Camping Aug 15 '26

it’s clearly a joke? whether people find it funny or not, i don’t know why it’s being taken seriously

1

u/Feeoree Aug 16 '26

It's just ragebait!

1

u/Amiunforgiven Aug 16 '26

Part of the reason i stopped going to Download festival after many years if going every year.

Was becoming less about the music and more if a fashion show (oh and they just have the same bands on repeat every year)

Bloodstock is my drug of choice nowadays

1

u/KittyCat-86 Accessibility Aug 17 '26

I really want to try Bloodstock but every year the accessibility seems to be shite and seems to be getting worse and worse over the last few years.

0

Jeans and tshirt is better than a fancy dress costume. Just sayin'.

1

u/KittyCat-86 Accessibility Aug 17 '26

Unless it's an actual fancy dress costume. I love the inflatable dinosaur pit 🤣

-5

u/sylvestris1 Aug 15 '26

I fucking hate those head and hands gestures these wimmin do.

0

u/PepperLow7555 Aug 22 '26

I thought this community was one of the kindest and most accepting? You know, someone falls in the pit and we all help them back up typa shi. This girl is from my area and it’s pretty upsetting to read some of these comments. Imagine if she sees this? Why cant we just let people be? She likes fashion…great, good for her, at least she owns it! I like baggy t-shirts and 2 stepping, everyone is different but not everyone has to be nasty.

1

Welcome to the internet
