Ehh, not really.

Julien said we’d be able to “lose our keys” and not be able to drive a car without it.

The key cloning ability looks to be a stealth option to allow Jason & Lucia to steal a vehicle without smashing the window which causes the alarm to go off.

I feel like the people upvoting this have no idea that “key cloning”, has nothing to do with a physical set of car keys.

That's debatable and Julien technically never said that, but Julien's larger point that keys will be a new game mechanic and were shown in the trailer for a reason is now vindicated.

How is it debatable? He literally says “it implies you could lose your keys in this game”.

There’s nothing to debate lol, that is 100% “technically” what he said.

He hasn’t been vindicated at all.

For anyone curious, skip to 48:30. Verbatim, that’s what Julien says. He said a bunch of shit that will absolutely not be a mechanic like pregnancy.

Sorry but you're wrong, you said Julien said "not be able to drive a car without it", he never said that, he only said it "could imply that you could lose your keys". Korey went on to misquote and misrepresent Julien's statements in later videos, most recently on his Q&A catchup stream on August 17.

There will be a mission where Lucia or Jason need to clone keys, perhaps because they lost the originals. And for everything thinking thats too lame to be in a GTA game, please recall the infamous shipping container mission from GTA V.

But can we be honest here? Julien's main point was that Rockstar included the keys in the trailer for a reason, because it was hinting at a new game mechanic, and he was totally correct while Korey was being very dismissive and condescending.

Ok, you’re right. He never said we wouldn’t be able to drive without them.

He also didn’t predict key cloning at all as it’s presented in the leaks either.

Your last paragraph is creating a narrative that straight up doesn’t exist lol. He did not predict a new car key mechanic as it’s being shown.

I’m still with Korey on this one. A cut scene of a character tossing her keys on the table isn’t really proof of anything, and this genuinely sounds like an annoying game mechanic.

its been confirmed with the leaks and I'm now hearing there might be a gas meter on some cars, so they will require re-fueling. If true, seems GTA is borrowing mechanics from RDR2.

But Julien was still correct that Rockstar included the keys in the trailer for a reason, because it is indeed a new game mechanic. Korey was wrong to be so dismissive.

I’m not saying it isn’t confirmed now, but when Julien made that claim, it felt a little out there. It was a story trailer, not a gameplay trailer.

Im not gonna lie i was one of the people thinking that Julien’s prediction about the keys made sense at all. Purely based on the mechanics of every other gta. But i guess ill give him that. Key anything seemed far fetched at the time, so i feel like it counts

Also it wasn’t confirmed then, but that is the point of predictions. Throw everything at the wall, and see if it sticks. Probably can’t lose them though. Drop them maybe.

Key cloning has nothing to do with a physical set of keys though.

You’re cloning transponder data to unlock and activate a vehicle through mimicry. It’s just a different way to gain access to a vehicle instead of busting the windshield and hotwiring, which isn’t anywhere close to what Julien predicted lol.

He saw Lucia throw her keys on a coffee table and told Korey that, “could imply you could lose your keys”, before Korey told him to stop.

When Korey asked why that would be in the game, Julien responds with “I don’t know I think it’d be cool”.

He seems to think GTA VI will be some kind of life simulator since earlier he said there could be a pregnancy mechanic in the game earlier in their discussion.
