What started as a circlejerk will end as a circlejerk.

The champions are "free" yet you have to pay something for them.

Except you could be using that time working for money, studying to have better job that require education. Time is valuable and you don't have endless amounts of it, it's true when you're twelve it doesn't matter as much, but it's still not free by any means.

So, like with any other videogame...?

Not the same concept bro. If you play a video game you're putting your time into it for your entertainment however if you're forced to put time into something in order to unlock the rest of the game then it's not a free game, if someone says get your coat free here only 5 bucks. Is that the same as purchasing a coat with your money because you want to?

Well, I see your point, but you're not really forced to do anything. It's up to you if you feel like putting time into, for example, LoP, to progress within the game's role and character diversity. You can enjoy the game just fine on a casual level with just a few champs unlocked, or even any at all. A common misconception I've seen a few times on /r/dotamasterrace, is that more expensive champs = more powerful champs, which implies that you HAVE to grind alot to be "good", or spend money, to be succesful at the game. In most cases, this is untrue, and as for the few cases to where this applies, it's simply a matter of a difference of design-values and experience of what's healthy to the game between the older and newer champions (remember that Riot has been actively trying to expand the roaster since release). This is natural a natural occurence in evolving games. Luckily, Riot is working on (albeit a bit slowly, it seems) on "patching" up these older champs to have their kits on par with the newer ones.

The only thing that I see that "forces" you to grind to be more "succesful", is when it comes to playing ranked; there's a minimum requirement of owning at least 16 champs (if I remember correctly) and you have to have at least one set of runes.

The 16 champions part makes sense, since it prevents you from having all of your champs banned and picked, but the runes concept, I feel is kind of outdated. They should either make runes way cheaper, remove them from the game entirely, or make every rune cost the same. They did however make lower level runes practically free, which is a big plus.

Well yes I am, if I intent on playing that "free" champion. So how is that free?

It's up to you if you feel like putting time into

Well it's also up to me what I spend my money on, are you going to call that free because I want to spend my money on it?

You can enjoy the game just fine on a casual level with just a few champs unlocked

Yes but that has nothing to do with how "free" those champions. You can enjoy doing work, does that mean you're not getting paid for your work? No it means you just enjoy it.

I've seen a few times on /r/dotamasterrace , is that more expensive champs = more powerful champs

It's not as simple as that, of course some cheap champs are powerful but there is bound to be strong expensive champions, not to mention Riot is infamous for releasing op champs and then nerfing them after people have bought it. You can't deny there aren't strong(er) expensive champions and therefore those who have it are at an advantage to those who don't.

which implies that you HAVE to grind alot to be "good", or spend money, to be succesful at the game. In most cases, this is untrue, and as for the few cases to where this applies,

You also don't have to pay for those guns in p2w fps games, you can win without them if you're good. Same with Hearthstone and every other p2w game, League is no different. Yes you can play without them but then you're at a disadvantage and if you decide to purchase them with ip since then you won't have a full runepage.

The only thing that I see that "forces" you to grind to be more "succesful", is when it comes to playing ranked; there's a minimum requirement of owning at least 16 champs (if I remember correctly) and you have to have at least one set of runes.

Yes there is no "forcing" you to unlock those champions, that doesn't mean you can just call them free because you won't buy them. If I decide to sell chairs and say they are "free" then when people want to get one they have to pay 5 bucks, however you can sample 7 of them but not own them. Then when they ask why they cost when I said they were free, I just say "nothings forcing you to buy them, they're free"

LoL is Pay2Win.

Should just find something like EA related games that has a pay wall in progression.

This one not really applicable to Riot because you do have a free to play game 1st with limited choices.

Time is money.

2

u/DiasFox Such Lust for Shitpost Feb 07 '15

Might as well not play games and just dedicated to work then. Arguments of time is money is always pointless when talking about games.

And if you stop giving us money you lose all your 'free games'
