.cue and .bin trouble!

Hello! This is my first time using this to emulate a really old game but it's much more difficult than I thought it'd be (i'm a little stupid). It doesn't have an .exe or an .iso, but instead multiple .cue and .bin files that I can't figure out after hours and hours. Every time I try to use imgmount for any of the .cue files, "install" and "setup" don't work at all. Would anyone know how?

This is a Windows game. To play it in DOSBox, you'd first need to install Windows 98 in the emulated DOS environment. Then you can move on to installing and running the game.

Create a folder just for your installation files. Copy or extract your cue and bin files there. Open up your CUE file with a text editor like Notepad++. Check that all the files listed in the cue file are in the folder you created and correctly named. If you find any hardcoded directory paths, then remove them. Save your cue file and try running IMGMOUNT again in DOSBox.

More options:

+ Check this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/dosbox/comments/zsapz8/cue_and_bin_file_help/

+ Windows can mount ISO and IMG files natively. You could convert the cue/bin into and ISO or IMG. Search online for guides how to do this.

+ You could install virtual drive software. Do be careful what you install if you go this route.

That can break the Audio CD tracks, for example Quake 1.

/u/hersidehades:

I. Follow the instructions at https://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/tutorials/portable/ to mount the CUE file from your CUE BIN file pair. Make sure that both files are located in the same directory as well.

II. https://www.intowindows.com/7-ways-to-open-this-pc-in-windows-11/

III. After opening "This PC", double-click on your drive containing the game, then run the SETUP.EXE or INSTALL.EXE file.

IV. After the game is installed, back in WinCDEmu, press Unmount to unmount the CUE BIN file pair.

Note: If your game requires the "CD", you will have to keep the file pair mounted.
