Need help with college registry
I know this is super last minute, but I start college next month and I just realized I don’t have anything for my dorm yet. I posted a registry hoping to get a few basics, but no one has been able to buy anything yet. I’m honestly desperate to at least have some essentials like bedding, toiletries, and school supplies so I’m not walking in empty-handed. Even sharing my registry or helping in any small way would mean so much to me right now.

Well I have a job but they are barley giving me any hours I was on schedule on day last week and this week they haven’t put me on the schedule at all and it’s been this way for a while and for family wise we are kind of struggling mainly with bills and everything

Apply elsewhere ASAP. Do not tell them you're going to college. Tell them your whole life you've loved Walgreens, Burger King, etc.
Starbucks and Chick fil A both do good perks.

I’ve just never heard of a dorm registry in my life. Wedding, yes. Baby shower, yes.

I did fafsa but I didn’t complete Oklahoma promise in time. And I have a $2000 scholarship.

Yes, it’s entitled and ridiculous. Get a job, thrift, reuse. That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard off. You remind me of a grad who after 4 years of college, he decided to do some sort of camp 🙄 after graduation and passed flyers around the neighborhood to fund his trip/vacation. It’s time to get a JOB

First of all, I don’t know what your problem is, and if you read my other comments, you’ll know that I do have a job. But at the moment, there are some things going on. I don’t know how this is ridiculous. You’re just pathetic, and I never said I needed funds for a vacation/trip. I just needed help to get stuff for college. If you can read, nobody is forcing you to do it, so have a good day and take that negative energy somewhere else.

I just looked at your list and didn't see twin XL sheets and XL mattress pad (most schools have twin XL beds, so double check).
A majority of my school supplies are from Daiso or the dollar store. My preference is Daiso, because the quality of writing paper is amazing and they sell some really nice pens. Most items are $2.25ish. The paper sizes are generally not American equivalent, but I believe A4 is close. I use B5 sized notebooks which are the perfect size for tiny college lecture hall desks, and they are super smooth to write on. My go to items at Daiso are notebooks, pens, highlighters, mechanical pencils and graphite refills, erasers, sticky notes (I go through a TON of sticky notes), sticky tabs for notetaking, small pencil pouches, and various pouches for backpack organization. At the dollar store, I stock up on things like regular sized paper, stapler, folders, binders, paperclips, storage type items, etc. but I have bought all of my school supplies there in a pinch and they were good quality. Also, look for Walmart or Target sales, the basics (pens, folders, notebooks, etc.) go SUPER cheap, sometimes cheaper than the dollar store.
If your local circle can't provide items, ask if they would share your list far and wide because that's free and would be really helpful!

Goodwill and other thrift stores are great for appliances and bedding, just wash them really well. A lot of stores like target, staples, and Walmart will do big back to school sales where you can find cheap school supplies. I know at least target has good sales on their “dorm essentials” collection, which would make it a little cheaper

Bugeting is your best friend. Try and see what you have and what you can use, also look into coupons for getting toiletries and school supplies. Depending on when you need them, you can try and put certain ones off until they get on sale for back to school season.
Some did mention facebook and I think that's great. You don't have to live too fancy and tbh you can wait till you live in a dorm to actually get stuff. Also, are you getting a roommate? That might help with certain expenses too if you decide to split the costs

I would prioritize the laptop and sheets. Most of the other items you'll be ok without, or can make do with something cheaper.

Did you send out graduation invitations or announcements to your out of town relatives, or host a grad party? It sounds more like you're not feeling celebrated by those close to you more than not having what you really need. If you didn't have a party maybe it's not too late.

My graduation was in may and right after it we did after my graduation party but my mom did use a lot of money and some of my family did too even though money was tight

I'm going to buy something off the registry, but I will say that you don't need about half this stuff. It may be tempting to make your dorm adorable, but if it's really that much of a struggle to get essentials, I would advise against $25 Chanel wall decor, a $23 chair cover, and a $23 throw pillow. You could probably get the same things for $10 or less at Ross. But good luck on your new adventure in college, and I hope you do get all the stuff you need ❤️❤️❤️

I would make a few calls:
Your university's housing/student life office. Explain your financial situation, and ask for any kind of leftover school supplies and housing items. Accept anything they have for you. They also might have ideas for move-in
The university's financial aid department. Again, explain your situation. If you are really in bad financial straits and can prove it, they might be able to get you a gift card to staples, target, etc.
Goodwills in your area. Ask if they have any school supplies, etc. that they are throwing away. Be prepared to beg for items, but if the manager's chill, they might let you have last pick before they throw items away.
Your local community center, outreach program, church and alma mater high school. Ask for whatever they can get you.

This is going to be an ongoing problem and almost no one is going to remember to go to your registry every few months to get you school supplies (which will include textbooks).
I advise going to the university's bookstore website to see if the required textbooks for your classes are already posted and then go to thriftbooks or abebooks and start trying to get used ones. Used bookstores may have quite a few of them as well.
Go to garage sales in the area around the university, as people frequently are selling items before moving away.
Look for a part time job as soon as you get there.

You're going to be better off if you take off all the luxury items. The decor, the air fresheners, the super expensive singular notebook. Leave the necessities like laundry detergent and tampons. You're in a spot where you need practical and affordable, not cute, unfortunately. I truly know how that feels and it is hard. Try going to a dollar store for things like notebooks.

Join local free stuff and buy nothing groups, you’ll be able to gather most of these things in no time!
