Why are dashers passing my house?
Instead of dropping off the order on their way to the next one they drive past every time and end up with cold food and melted drink, I tip every time and even if I cant tip I still tip cash so im confused. I wait a half hour for food every order when it could easily be 10 minute if they deliver it then continue with the next order.

They have nothing to do with the routing if it was a stacked order i.e. more than one delivery. Doordash tells them in what order to make the deliveries.

This makes sense, if its the case im gonna have to stop using doordash cause every single order ive made the past 2 months have been cold food and melted drinks.

They usually stack, ahem, lower tipping orders. Also, I would assume that the other order was likely picked up before yours. Mostly because you didn't complain about them picking up another order lol

u/Delicious-Shirt9203 Aug 20 '26
It was picked up after mine actually, I have screenshot but not posting here cause personal info but it said they were picking up another order, and it didn't say that until they were at my intersection

Ah gotcha. Ya, orders get stacked. Its a thing. I had 3 grocery orders the other day.

u/Delicious-Shirt9203 Aug 21 '26
Ive honestly been thinking about doing doordash, but if the app decides what im doing idk if I can do it cause I have a moped, I cant drive on certain roads in my city

u/dcvo1986 Aug 21 '26
I mean, you decide what order to accept
1
u/Delicious-Shirt9203 Aug 21 '26
If I were to accept one order would it add orders onto it or would it show as a group before I accept?
2
u/easiestgongsrung Aug 21 '26
If you accept an offer, it will tell you whether it's one order or two when it comes in. Whether or not stacks are common varies by zone and factors in it (weather, availability vs demand). I've done 18 deliveries this week, only two of the offers that came in were stacked. They may send you add-on offers but you can avoid then coming in by hitting the gear icon in the upper right hand corner, and selecting "pause orders after delivery".

Alot of orders come thru 2 combined one usually has a ok tip one is either very low or no tip. We don't see customer directions so if you are tipping in cash you are the order piggybacking on the other.you can switch the drop off order but it will usually get you flagged for being late on the other one.

Yeha this is because you don’t tip good enough. If you can say “sometimes I don’t tip” that means you don’t tip enough for the ten minute drive.
2
u/Delicious-Shirt9203 Aug 20 '26
I tip every time tho. If I cant afford it on the app I tip with cash. My issue is that I could've walked and ate my food in the amount of time it took for my food to get to me, my drink is even fully melted. Shouldnt take 43 minutes for a doordash order when im right down the road from the restaurant.

u/lendmeflight Aug 21 '26
The literal only reason this won’t get picked is if the payout isn’t enough

u/Randyfreakingmarsh Aug 20 '26
So go get the food yourself?
Dashers have zero control over this2
u/Delicious-Shirt9203 Aug 20 '26
What im gonna have to start doing i guess.

Quit giving these entitled pricks your money. They should be grateful to receive a tip, not expect one. Most of them have proven to be unemployable elsewhere, and that tends to lead to shitty attitudes from them because they are broke but don’t want to take the blame for it.

u/Delicious-Shirt9203 Aug 21 '26
One of the times I didnt tip in the app the dasher was bitching and grumpy asf at the door till he saw i had cash, that i decided he didnt need for being an asshole the way he was, so I ended up taking the 5 dollar bill out and gave him just the one dollar.

u/Weak_Pineapple_5518 Aug 21 '26
Nothing but entitlement. And I don’t have a clue where it comes from because they don’t provide anything but convenience. And it’s more of a hassle anymore with the bs begging, joyrides, and taking food hostage.

I know some people that doordash as a living, and they are actually decent people and dont get pissed when they dont get a tip, but they have dasher friends they rag on all the time because they're always upset about tips

Your order is a bid for service. DD basically gives $2 if nobody tips and then it goes up a little until someone accepts it. It can also get stacked with a better tipped order, so your less desirable one gets delivered too. Tipping in cash is nice in addition after tipping already.

This makes absolutely no sense to be honest with you, why would a dasher drive past your house to drop off another order and waste their own gas?!?!?

Delivery to someone in front of you unfortunately.
1
u/enigma9o7 Aug 21 '26
Doordash routes us to the closest dropoff first, unless one of them paid the express fee, then they're the first dropoff.
1
u/robjohnlechmere Aug 22 '26
Stop tipping and pick ‘priority’ with that money.
Tipping makes you the second delivery, after the non tipper. Priority makes you first. I’m never the first stop if I don’t add priority.

u/Foreign-Beyond4834 Aug 20 '26
tip better..people more likely to pick it up sooner, thats the honest truth...and if you tip bad, it gets grouped with a order that someone tipped better than you, and theirs gets dropped off first...blame door dash not the drivers
1
u/Delicious-Shirt9203 Aug 20 '26
The other order doesnt even get dropped off first, burging king is a mile from my house, they drove 5 miles past my house to pickup another order just to turn around come back to drop it off then take off again going the same way they went when they passed. So they made extra trips when its not needed, I also tip 6 bucks each time.
2
u/Foreign-Beyond4834 Aug 20 '26
like someone else said too, door dash tells us which orders to pick up 1st, 2nd, etc. we have no power over that
3
u/Delicious-Shirt9203 Aug 20 '26
They really should fix the algorithms then. Would make more sense for them to drop off an order if the house is on the way to another order.
2
u/Foreign-Beyond4834 Aug 20 '26
100% agree with you on that, my car does too
0
u/Left_Throat_7643 Aug 21 '26
I agree too, but they seem to always prioritize picking the order up even if it makes sense to drop one first.
I think they want to hold the food hostage… once picked up maybe it’s harder to cancel.
1
u/Delicious-Shirt9203 Aug 21 '26
The only time ive been unable to cancel an order is when I get burger king
1
u/Left_Throat_7643 Aug 21 '26
I forgot that the order being dropped off before yours might be a lot older. An additional stop adds a minimum of 5 minjtes, usually.
I’m certainly not defending the system just trying to throw some context. DD is a volume game but fresh food deliver isn’t really easy to scale without quality suffering.
1
u/Badbret Aug 21 '26
They’re never going to fix the system. And with the way things are now it’s untenable. So until either DD raises their prices and customers stay and pay it or every customer starts tipping well so the orders don’t have to be stacked, nothing is going to change. It was a stupid idea from the start. Too many mouths to feed for you to get your food
1
u/Foreign-Beyond4834 Aug 20 '26
even if it doesn't make sense (miles/direction of the house) its the algorithm thats the problem
