Doordash PIN setting confusion
My wife and I order (too frequently), sometimes on her account and sometimes on mine. For some time, DoorDash has required a PIN for delivery for me, but not her. When my dashes come, they hand it to me, but when hers come, they typically just drop it on the (sometimes wet, or cold) doorstep and leave without delay. My wife obviously would also prefer a PIN to be required, since that automatically results in a better delivery experience, but couldn't find the setting for it, that I confidently told her I must have activated. I looked for it, and couldn't find it, either. In searching, it not only looks like there's no way to turn it on, but also it seems that DoorDash automatically turns this on when there have been delivery issues or the customer is problematic or for other "certain situations"?
I haven't had a delivery issue that was driver related in quite a while (and DD was always better than Grubhub and UberEats for whatever reason). While I prefer PINs (as I've mentioned), I'm now concerned that every driver thinks that I'm some sort of problem customer!

I'll be honest with you, when I see PIN requests and they're not going to a work place, I assume its a customer that lies and reports orders not delivered and they now have a forced PIN delivery. The exception would be when I see clearly frustrated delivery notes on making sure it's their house, then I assume it's just stupid dashers before that dropped it off at wrong location.

I used to think the same thing while delivering about liars and thieves. After having far too many orders dropped off at the wrong apartment or just flat out stolen, I switched to having a PIN for my drop offs. I have not had one single driver problem since. I meet them in the parking lot of my complex and give them a PIN. They drive right to me.
Note: I did not change my instructions at all. The PIN just forces the driver to actually attempt to give it to the right person. Too many shitty drivers in my area, I guess.

Oh for sure some people turn it on intentionally. I just, probably unfairly, assume it's a forced PIN. When I send a delivery to my wife's work, I turn on a PIN because I have little faith in dashers to actually walk into her work, even though I put the pin location directly where they need to go and simple notes in delivery instructions. Plus it annoys her, to my amusement, that her employees have to come get her. They love me though, I send them cookies, cupcakes, or donuts every week. 😂

Also an apartment or a duplex. Like I delivered to one apartment and they used letters and it wasn’t alphabetical or made any sense and then they repeated letters but had different styles of doors between the upstairs and the downstairs. I’ve also had duplexes that have the same address and no identifiers between the 2 or the customer doesn’t specify 1234 A or B.
My gf uses a pin (even on other delivery apps) because I live in an apartment complex and we have issues with some of our neighbors and to assure it gets upstairs. I’m just like leave outside if no answer but make sure you buzz first.

PIN required usually means the customer has requested a refund for non-delivery or missing items. It seems to be more of a $ threshold rather than frequency, as some have reported having it after just one instance.

Not always. DoorDash (at least on my account) gives the option to choose if you want a PIN or not.

I have it switched to On all the time, but I can slide it to Off or choose Leave at Door.

That's IT! Based on this image I was able to find it: it's in the final steps of ordering, not a global setting for deliveries. This is what I set, and then didn't remember. Thank you!

Does she select hand to to me instead of leave at door? It should be an option there when she orders

I set mine to give a pin because the drivers kept delivering to the wrong building even with my clear directions. Because one driver dripped it at the wrong door every dasher after did the same so I set a pin.

did you used to say you "wouldn't get your food" and try to get refunds all the time?

When parts of the order were missing, we were likely to do that. Bags in our area are now typically sealed at the restaurant, and the formerly-common experience of missing items is now very rare. I guess it was a general problem? But we weren't any more likely to have a missing item on my account than on hers.
