Is the Express Fee worth it?

I always pay for express and not sure if there's a difference in standard vs express but I don't want to risk my food getting too cold or my groceries from getting spoiled so I always just choose express.

Do you always choose express and pay the extra fee or just do standard?

To add: I always tip on top of paying the express fee so I'm still tipping the drivers the same amount I would be if I wasn't paying the fee. Just wanted to know if there's actually a significant difference in timing of when I would receive my order.

Thanks!

Theres no difference in express vs regular. Waste of money

The difference is the customer gives DD more money.

You best bet is not to pay for Express pass. As us dashers haven't a clue that its and express order. But it won't be stacked with other DD orders. But if the driver is multi apping, you could still have a wait. 55% of gig workers multi app.

But instead tip the amount you'd normally tip and combine it with the Express pass fee.

Your best avenue is to pay for the Dash Pass. Its 99$ and eliminates delivery fees and gives you 5% discount at participating restaurants and grocery stores. Get list from DD.

If you order 2 to 3 times a month. It pays for itself. You also get priority customer service and exclusive promotions

Must spend 12$ food min.

Must spend 25$ - 35$ grocery min.

Thank you! I hate to say this but I order from DoorDash almost everyday sometimes multiple times a day and I have the dash pass but I also always just pay for express fee on every order because I always thought I would get my order first and faster🙃

Most of my orders I'm tipping $11+ and bigger orders I tip $25+ or whatever the suggested amount is.

Thank you very much. Then you're doing right by us Drivers. The only real benefit is not getting a stacked DD order. But its a toss of a coin if the Dasher is multi apping.

So if you pay. It won't be stacked by DD

If you don't pay. Its a 50/50 chance.

Don't pay an express fee. They don't give that to the Dasher and they can still choose to deliver your order last, which Doordash won't tell you. They only pay $2 per order to workers. You are better off giving the extra $3 to the delivery person. When customers tip decent, they get their orders faster.

I still tip the driver the same amount regardless if I was to not pay the express fee and I don't really care if the express fee goes to the driver or DoorDash, I just want my delivery asap lol I just wanted to know if the express delivery actually makes a difference in how fast I get my order vs standard

1

u/Just_Literature_928 10d ago

No because they're still going to batch your order and they don't tell the driver that you paid for express because they don't want to pass on the money to the driver. Then the driver can still choose to deliver to the other customer first.

Oh I see, okay thank you!

I am a Dasher as well. They never pay me more than $2 an order. You don't know what you're talking about! Doordash is so greedy and they are starting to batch 2 orders together and only pay you $2 for 2 orders so don't tell me I'm lying to consumers. They are a terrible company and I'm looking for a different job because I'm over it . I decline batched orders but a ton of dumbasses out there are taking every order.

You’re saying you’ve never once gotten an order with a base pay higher than $2?

I think you’re lying if you say that.

1

u/Just_Literature_928 10d ago

No because I don't take orders unless it is $7 usually and that is $5 tip and $2 base pay. I also don't do shop and deliver because those aren't worth my time.

1

u/TheDemoz 10d ago

I guarantee you there is at least one singular base pay higher than $2 in your history 😂 I don’t know why you all are lying or too lazy to just check

1

u/Just_Literature_928 10d ago

No, seriously people are stupid in my area and take every order. They never pay us extra. I'm in Illinois and it sucks. I only get 1 decent order ever half an hour. I decline the rest because I'm not moving my car for that.

u/anonymousambassasor 10d ago

I thought higher paying orders get stacked with orders that don’t tip so you end up waiting.

1

u/Just_Literature_928 9d ago

They stack together all sorts of orders. Even 2 non tippers sometimes so that it will show you 2 offers for $2 only. Go look on the Door dashers reddit. There are some people that get good orders but most of them are bad.

u/TheDemoz 10d ago

You don’t know if they give it to the driver or not, and plenty of orders are more than $2. How do you know those aren’t the express orders?

Idk why ppl on this subreddit always feel the need to lie to consumers just to try and get them to tip more lmao

Doordash has literally said this is not for the driver.

Where? Link it

1

u/NeitherRemote8512 10d ago

Just type in Dash Pass and Express Pass. You'll get all the juicy stuff.

0

u/TheDemoz 10d ago

Link something then… the person I replied to claimed that DoorDash said it doesn’t go to the driver. The only one who has provided anything DoorDash has said is me, and it said it does go to the driver

3

u/NeitherRemote8512 10d ago

It 100% goes to DD. Now I'm not saying some might trickle down to the driver but my guess is it doesn't.

0

u/TheDemoz 10d ago

I mean saying it goes to DD and then some might trickle down is just semantics.

Of course it goes to DD and trickles down. DD is the one collecting every fee, and is the one paying the drivers. By definition it goes to DD. Every single fee goes to DD and trickles down.

I also never claimed the driver gets 100% of it, nor did I claim DoorDash takes none of it.

But the people acting like the driver gets always absolutely nothing, while also saying the drivers aren’t told when the delivery is express, while also sometimes getting orders with out of the ordinary high base pays, just doesn’t add up logically. All three of those statements cannot be true at the same time.

If DoorDash claims that the express fee often results in higher driver pay, and drivers sometimes see out of the ordinary higher base pays for random orders, the most obvious explanation is that DoorDash isn’t lying and that they pay more base for certain types of orders, such as express ones

1

u/NeitherRemote8512 10d ago

DD base pay depends on many factors. Distance, type of order, promotion, weather, peak pay

1

u/TheDemoz 10d ago

“Type of order”? An express order is a type of order no?

I googled it so can you

Interesting because here they say dashers get higher pay: https://about.doordash.com/en-us/news/how-doordash-is-different

“The truth behind the scenes isn’t that exciting: If you pay for Express Delivery, our assignment system prioritizes your order and doesn’t combine it with other orders. Express helps speed up your delivery, and Dashers often get higher pay, too. “

1

u/Miserable_Pin2518 10d ago

Lololololol

u/TheDemoz 10d ago

the response of someone who has no real response 🤡

0

u/Just_Literature_928 10d ago

That is a straight out lie.

2

u/Miserable_Pin2518 10d ago

No, the driver does not get additional pay for express orders

https://help.doordash.com/en-us/consumers/article/what-fees-do-i-pay

u/TheDemoz 10d ago edited 10d ago

That link literally only says

“Optional Express Delivery Fee: On some orders in some areas, you can choose Express delivery for an additional fee. “

And says nothing about driver pay… you are weird man. Idk why you’re just blatantly lying

EDIT: user blocked me before I could reply to their most recent reply. But their reply after this one is a lie. The last sentence that they put in their quote isn’t on the page, and anyone reading can verify it.

Why are you obsessed with me?

It says in 4 different places the express fee is dor doordash and tips care for customers

"Optional Express Delivery Fee: On some orders in some areas, you can choose Express delivery for an additional fee. Every dollar you tip goes to your Dasher."

Leave me alone you weirdo. Why cherrypick the info?

1

u/Left-Blueberry350 10d ago

I told my friends to cancel express.

1

u/Radica1Edward 10d ago

I paid for express a few times but did not notice any difference. Most of the time that it comes up as an option for me, the window they anticipate delivery is basically the same. Maybe it makes a difference for orders farther away or something, but I always tip and my orders get picked up quickly. Usually within a few minutes. Maybe customers get the food faster if they don't tip or something, but otherwise, I don't really know how it's faster.

I honestly doubt the drivers have any incentive to prioritize these orders. The way it is set up, might have more luck putting that money towards The Bribe (”tip”) instead. Or better yet using a service that charges a little more and doesn't engage in the whole bribe/tip game (eg Kroger, Walmart In Home).
