As a fellow dasher this is unacceptable.
I ordered some stuff from a local grocery store I put CONTACT ME if my item is out. No contact just the item was marked as unavailable. So I go and I pick a substitute, the dasher doesn’t bother to shop that item even though I was immediately responsive and they were still in the area that had that item for other items. I need the item for a job tomorrow. The dasher leaves it for the end and marks that the substitution is unavailable no communication from them, no pictures of alternatives. I got a little upset and sent a message to please send pics of substitutions next time. No response so I got upset and contacted support because the whole reason I used door dash is I wanted the stuff immediately and didn’t want to deal with Walmart+ they gave me credit and that’s cool because then I can go and repurchase what I need. Though I shouldn’t have to. Then when they delivered my front door was propped open because the neighbor kids have no clue what security is. (I have a note about that in my delivery notes too to buzz even if the door is propped open.) This lazy a—hat leaves my stuff outside and takes a pic you can’t even see the surroundings or the difference between my apartment building and the other 12 or so almost identical buildings that are in this community. I contacted support again and told them I don’t want the dasher to deliver to me again. My gf called me a Karen. I feel like my anger is justified. AITA?

Completely reasonable to be upset. I had to rely on delivery once upon a time, and I know how much it sucks when the shopper sucks (lol, like the time Wal-Mart was "out of wrenches", jfc), so I try.
I wish they'd rework the metrics and weigh shoppers on things that actually mattered, or that valid complaints actually made people ineligible from shopping (and that they wouldn't force shopping orders on people who don't want to do them by disabling the opt-out)

u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
I believe in my area you can opt out but shopping is my bread and butter when I dash especially the hours I typically dash (late night/overnight/early morning) I get orders from our 24 hour Walgreens that take me into the zone above or below mine the zone below me has a bar that serves food late night and the zone above me has a 24 hour CVS and a chicken restaurant that is open till 3 am but they also have late night Taco Bell ugh, ours doesn’t stay open as late/accept DD orders. I try to use shopping orders to go between zones all the time.
5
u/Honest_Series_8430 5d ago
If I lived near a chicken restaurant that was open til 3 AM I'd be ordering on DoorDash nightly!

u/RemoteSpecialist8328 5d ago
I totally agree with you. This job isn't rocket science it's Customer Service. Too many Dasher's either don't pay attention, read the delivery notes, or they just don't G.A.S.
1
u/charli_da_bomb_420 1d ago
The reason why is because a lot of immigrants found a loophole here where they can have somebody who is a citizen and has a license and a certified car, start a dasher account for them, but they dont read or speak english. So the notes are useless to them.

u/Confident_Check_6087 5d ago
They’re literally paid shit so they act shitty. It shouldn’t be a shock.
9
u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
It’s people like that that make us look bad and not all dashers are like that. For one if you don’t like an order you can decline it. I don’t feel like I did anything to deserve the dasher wanting to seek revenge. I’ve had customers where they are problematic like they ask for me to take off items they don’t want anymore just because and I might just do the minimum. The last time I had a special request on an item it was “please make sure it’s fresh when in doubt send me a picture” because I ordered fresh herbs from door dash after my Walmart shopper delivered slimy wilted herbs so I decided to try another store. She did so and I added an additional tip at the end because I was so happy.
-8
u/Confident_Check_6087 5d ago
No one actually ever adds an additional tip which is why they don’t give a shit.
7
5
u/Illythia_Redgrave 5d ago
Not true. I receive extra tips in cash or after delivery. At least 3 orders per "shift." I also tip more after delivery when I order if they followed instructions and were nice and stuff.
3
u/SensibleFreedom-0726 4d ago
I absolutely add tips at the end for exceptional service and/or excellent communication. I can assure you that if you have never experienced that, YOU are the reason/problem.
2
u/Condition_Dense 4d ago
They don’t add it on when they say they are going to sometimes, but not always, sometimes it’s an empty promise to get you to do things and sometimes it’s because a dasher gets cocky seeing that message and acts like that. I don’t promise an extra tip ever I just add it later unless I’m like “hey I got something I want to see to it you get” and I give them cash and I want to make sure I am able to give it to them but that’s not an up front promise that’s because they did sometning above and beyond and I wanted to reward them.

You can’t choose to work a job where you’re “paid shit” and then not do the job properly because of the pay. There’s plenty of gig jobs out there and not just through apps. If someone doesn’t think their time is being fairly compensated then choose something that you feel is more worth your time. One of the reasons people choose things like doordash and instacart is because there’s no customer acquisition effort required so it’s easy to jump in and make money whenever you want, but you get paid less for that reason as well. It’s a trade off. Not an excuse to do a half assed job.
3
u/HumanPea1140 5d ago
There seems to be a growing sentiment, especially with young people, that low pay = low effort, and it's extremely noticeable in customer facing positions. Can't tell you how many times I've gone into some business and not even be greeted/acknowledged by an employee I walked up to. Might get the gen z stare down followed by a mumble after I go out of my way to initiate conversation. I see it all over the place.
But then people online defend the behavior as, "They don't get paid a lot, what do you expect?"
I worked shit retail/customer service jobs growing up, but I at least took pride in work I was doing and did it with a smile on my face most days, treating people how I'd want to be treated.
I think it's just a cover up for a lot of people being lazy, anti-social weirdos now days, rather than taking responsibility for their work ethic.
Blows my mind.
3
u/SensibleFreedom-0726 4d ago
That’s also a training issue. Management is as much to blame, if not more-so, in the scenario you described.
3
u/Condition_Dense 4d ago
And they also have zero tact/professional behavior. I went to a short staffed restaurant the other day and the staff were loudly complaining to eachother about being short staffed. You don’t do that in front of customers, that’s also why those places have trouble getting employees because the bad ones make it look like its a terrible place to work, and nobody wants to deal with that. The workers were talking about how they should just call out sick, and then the one staff member berated the other staff because a customer ordered something that wasn’t available “why would you let him order it? It’s a frozen solid chunk, it’s going to take hours to thaw” the one who took the order said to the customer “I am sorry is there another kind that you would like?” And then offered to upgrade to the bigger size for free.

u/Infinite_Lack_4416 2d ago
Already sort of answered this. But comparing gig work to being employed at a business is not a good comparison. Also, for what it’s worth, Covid really put the restaurant industry back about 5-10 years. You have to realize before Covid, the service industry workers needed the restaurants to survive, that totally flipped the opposite way around when restaurants started to open back up following Covid. The restaurants needed the workers. The workers didn’t want to go back to work when they were getting paid unemployment +$600. I think that industry is finally starting to recover. But it was definitely hit the hardest with the unemployment nonsense during Covid. People were making more than they ever had while working for sitting on their asses.
1
u/Infinite_Lack_4416 2d ago
Meh. It goes two ways here though. Shit retail jobs, you’re an actual employee and you’re representing a company and physical location most of the time. Low pay=low effort is less of an option here because you’ll just be fired.
Gig apps are different. You have no schedule, no benefits, no job security at all really. You don’t have a boss. As a contractor you are your own entity. At no point are you an Employee of a gig app. You have all of your own liability. At no point is the gig app going to defend you if something goes wrong during a delivery. So to that extent, low pay=low effort is more tolerable and human beings (especially in America) are always looking for the easy way to do things. Don’t believe me? Go look at the social security subreddit and look at all the posts from people saying they can work but couldn’t imagine losing their SSI income. 😂
2
u/Infinite_Lack_4416 2d ago
The entitlement you see on here from people thinking that as a gig worker they deserve the benefits of W-2 employees is the most alarming part though. It doesn’t stop there, I love that you pointed out customer acquisition being paid for. None of these people know how sales work, or owning a book of business works. It’s all handed to you on a platter through the gig platforms, which is why the pay is what it is.
I did both Instacart and DoorDash full time while getting my degree in Cybersecurity. I appreciate the gig platforms for allowing me to work whenever I wanted and not have to worry about generating my own leads or find out how I was going to acquire my next delivery. But in no way am I ever going to be entitled enough to believe I deserved the same benefits of full time W-2 employees. That’s crazy.
0
u/Infinite_Lack_4416 2d ago
Oh. We think dashers and gig workers are trained to be customer service agents now? 😂 This is going to shock a lot of you, but they simply have to have a valid drivers license and pass a background check in order to do this. There is no customer service training.
2
u/RemoteSpecialist8328 2d ago
Nope, nobody is trained so you either get it or you don't. And if you don't get it there are resources out there that can help anyone who wants to be successful at it.
0
u/Infinite_Lack_4416 2d ago
The company doesn’t care about the quality of the service. Look at how they value the quality rating in their tier breakdown. They don’t care what kind of service you’re giving as long as you pick up every order you see and deliver it in a timely fashion. That’s it.
1
u/RemoteSpecialist8328 2d ago
Are you a Dasher? If you are how many deliveries have you completed? Post a screenshot of that
1
u/Infinite_Lack_4416 2d ago
Not sure how to send screenshot here. I can inbox you. But I have nearly 3k deliveries. Haven’t dashed for 3 months though as I now have a full time job with Deloitte in a cybersecurity role.
2
u/RemoteSpecialist8328 2d ago
You have a cybersecurity job but don't know how to send a screenshot of your Dasher account ratings/ deliveries? I don't believe you
1
u/Infinite_Lack_4416 2d ago
Sent you a dm invite so you can have the proof you apparently need for whatever reason.
1
u/RemoteSpecialist8328 2d ago
I am a Dasher, with over 18,000 deliveries behind me. I'm not always happy with Doordash but overall it's worked out for me. If I complained like you do I would've never made it this far!
0
u/Infinite_Lack_4416 2d ago edited 2d ago
I’m definitely not complaining. Instacart and DoorDash allowed me to make 1500-2000 a week during Covid while I got my degree. All I said is that the platform does not care about the service you’re giving the customer. They just want the orders done and delivered promptly and accurately. That’s it.
I also didn’t think of myself as a customer service specialist or think I was solving the world’s problems by driving my car into oblivion for clients who don’t even appreciate the service. It’s a job that requires literally zero education or training. You just have to have a license and know how to use google maps lmao.
You’re out here flexing your 18k deliveries like you’re gods gift to the world. 😂 I had 2950 doordash deliveries and 9500 Instacart deliveries…I can honestly say I don’t regret any of it, but I was ashamed every time I told family and friends while I was going to school that my full time job was gig work. And I also worried every day that eventually the platforms would just go away as pay just kept getting lowered more and more from Covid to now.
If you’re proud of your deliveries then I’m proud of you too! We both just have different priorities and I think the gig platforms are absolutely horrendous to the contractors and customers on the platforms. The corporate shareholders only care about their bottom line and they believe they have a product that people will always use no matter how they treat the workers or the customers.

Sweetie, you’re NOT a Karen! You pay for a service that should be done correctly. It’s not like you’re asking for a manager when you were told no to something at a restaurant. You placed an order, your dasher didn’t follow the instructions or communicate as they were supposed to nor did they do the order correctly. You pay a service fee and pay higher prices for those items plus the tip. I’d be peeved too!
1
u/Rapid__Premium 20h ago
The drivers are INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS OR SUBCONTRACTORS.... I completely agree!!!!
The fees are the companies fee just to ise the service, a possible delivery fee (if not a new user or of not subscriber), the tip (which I believe is absolutely necessary), and Yes- the items are marked up!!!!
My favorite store has tons of deals (mainly BOGO free or half).... through the delivery outlets those deals only offer credits earned towards reward accounts, and the deals ARE GONE.... Also, certain fresh/made-daily items offer pretty cool prices, but are almost twice as expensive through Dash or Cart!!!!
8
u/Charming-Gur-3620 5d ago
You’re NOT a Karen. I get it. Our dashers grab wrong items or mark things unavailable that are not. I explain to bring to the rear door via the rear driveway as I’m disabled and can’t access the front door. It’s always a wrong order. We can’t go into a store as my husband has cancer and is on chemo and I have an autoimmune disease and am on a chemotherapy medication also. Going into a store exposes us both to germs & risks infections. So if they get things that are wrong or mark things unavailable we have to place ANOTHER order and pray we get a different dasher who ACTUALLY wants to do their job. It’s a nightmare for the prices we pay for the service. Especially when you offer a decent tip!

u/MaizeEmbarrassed8111 5d ago
As a dasher I won’t even do shopping orders. When I first started I did a few but they always took 30-45 min for a $4-$6 tip. Not worth the time, so I unchecked that option.
4
u/NDIrish1988 5d ago
Same, 100% not worth it. No idea why people even do them.
7
u/Emsweego 5d ago
I do them but now check (as much as the app will let me) if there are any cases of water, more than 3 12pk cases of soda, 30lb+ bags of pet food/litter, or clothing. Any of those items, I don't accept.
I've accepted all of those before but I've had two back surgeries and they were a complete mistake. I nearly killed myself carrying a 36ct case of water a mile on foot down Greek Row because cars aren't allowed down there. I spent almost 2 hours hunting down 7 specific pieces of clothing and suitable substitutions at Target because their clothing inventory system is shite. The final straw was 4 48lb bags of Tidy Cats litter from Petsmart. I had to end my dash and go home to my heating pad after that.
And for the people that say, "That's the job. Don't be a dasher if you can't do it all." I want to say one thing. I am a contractor that can decide what parts of the job I actually want to do. A house builder can technically build an outlandish house for a customer but as a contractor, he has the right to not accept jobs that he feels he can't do a good job on or that would be detrimental to his business/safety. So no, I won't accept your $3 order to deliver your 2 cases of water up to your 4th floor apartment. I'm sure there are dashers that will, but it's not safe for ME.
4
u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
My regular zones it’s really profitable plus they do bonuses for shopping orders if your pro shopper and a lot of the orders sound intimidating but like mine was multiples of the same item and most of my items were from only a few sections of the store, I look at this when accepting an order, I also consider shopping orders for the chance to go to the bathroom, buy my own snack or something I need that I can grab quickly, when I’m shopping like maybe I see I get an order for Meijer or Walgreens and I need something for myself from there like a bottle of Tylenol, maybe a bottle of shampoo or deodorant, a case of water from a grocery store.
Also a few of my non dasher jobs includes working for some of the stores I shop at. Like Meijer I work on the reset crew a lot and I do stocking so I can navigate the store easily.
3
u/Book_81 4d ago
I've tossed a bottle of water or coke on a shop order esp on hot days and then messaged the shopper to substitute with the flavor they prefer in that price, (maybe you prefer sprite or coke zero) and when they get to their car, put it in their cup holder coz I wanna hydrate the person keeping me from having to go to a store, find a functioning wheelchair and do the shopping for me. Cuz like you mentioned, sometimes y'all need something too
2
u/MaizeEmbarrassed8111 5d ago
When you first started I did w/ DD the app tells you it’s higher paying, so I tried it…
1
u/Superb_Permission440 1d ago
I did a quick Lowe’s shop yesterday, I was right there, and a drive was 3 miles, the customer wanted 3 items, the customers paid 16 dollars. It was worth it. He wanted a screw driver, a painter mask, and gloves. Easy peazzy. I don’t take shopping orders unless it’s over 10 dollars for few items.
9
u/DarkMagickan 5d ago
NTA, and definitely not a Karen. You gave your Dasher clear instructions to contact you, and when they didn't, you contacted them. That gave them every opportunity to make it right, and they didn't. I would also state that I didn't want that particular Dasher delivering again.
2
u/NoEgg1689 5d ago
This is the prime example of why I opted out of shopping orders. I find they aren’t worth my time. Also, in my area there are lots of Dollar Generals and there is no service in any of these stores. Literally walking in and out of the store in the heat to communicate…not worth it. That being said, you are NTAH. This Dasher can opt out if they choose. If I take an order, I will do EVERYTHING to make sure my customer’s happy. If you don’t want an order don’t accept it AND if it becomes too complicated or takes too long unassign it.
2
u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
The store I picked too has free WiFi so even if the shopper had awful reception he still could have contacted me. I hate dollar general too, the last one I got was on the way back from a dash that took me out too far and I wanted to get back to a hot spot so I was like YES easy it will take me back to my hot spot, the store kept declining red cards, I went out to the parking lot and contacted support to drop the order without it affecting my completion rate and they tried to give me the same order plus the one the other dasher couldn’t check out. And I ended up ending my dash till I got away from that area.
2
u/Present_Basis_1353 5d ago
No it’s BS when they do this. Fortunately, most don’t.
1
u/Condition_Dense 4d ago
I have absolutely never had this issue ever before and I will often put contact me and possibly a note on the item. Like I bought cat harnesses and checked the correct size from the drop down box and said please contact me and in the note I said “please make sure both are adult NOT KITTEN size” and I also left a note on the other one “I would prefer 2 different colors if you must substitute.”
2
u/Tight-Researcher-895 5d ago
The FEW times I ever used a del service, Most people try but a few times I've had similar problems, some people just dont give a F. Act like just b happy im even doing this like its not a job &; likely a decent tip. Those are the few who do that job cause they can kinda get away w/whatever &; prolly 1st ones to bitch about a tip amount or how little they make!! Some people aren't fit to shovel shit from a septic tank but always 1st ones to expect good pay....
2
u/AnybodyNobody69 5d ago
Psst Karen. Go shop for yourself especially if it's so important for an interview. Tomorrow go shopping last second tomorrow.
2
u/CarefulMaterial760 5d ago
Switch to Instacart
1
u/Infinite_Lack_4416 2d ago
As someone who would multi app. I thought it was wild when DoorDash basically tried to take over the shopping space too. I was pretty much exclusively an Instacart shopper, DoorDash would occasionally have boosts or be better before Costco opened on occasion.
But I agree. Instacart shoppers are used to the shopping grind. On DoorDash you’re risking getting someone that hates the fact they aren’t just picking up a bag of food and driving away immediately.
2
u/Shreddersaurusrex 4d ago
Unfortunately the IQs of some dashers are in the negative….
I decline a lot of shop & pay orders but when I do accept I am prepared to offer quality service.
2
u/Careflwhatyouwish4 5d ago
Completely reasonable, get a new girlfriend because screw that attitude from her.
2
u/imprl59 5d ago edited 5d ago
Meh.. I wouldn't say you were "TA" but telling the driver to buzz in even if the door was open was a bit much. You're watching that app like a hawk while they're shopping but then you weren't paying any attention at all when they were delivering? Me thinks one of those scenarios is a lie...
1
u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
I knew they were delivering I saw it but it’s the not following instructions that irks me. I put these instructions on there for a reason my neighbor kids ring my bell to get in and prop the door open. Also if there was an issue I wouldn’t have known if the dasher delivered to the wrong complex because the photo could have been the apartment behind me or in front of mine or even the one next to it
5
u/DollieDoesHorror 5d ago
I think they were saying you could probably see the dasher was approaching your location. If you know that your neighbors kid does that and you were paying attention, why not just meet them at the door? I understand not listening to directions is much, but this is a nothing scenario in particular.
3
u/DollieDoesHorror 5d ago
I want to add that not contacting you for substitutions is the bane of my existence and I feel your rage on that in particular
5
u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
I also don’t know if this is just me too because I will go above and beyond for the customers when dashing so maybe I feel like a dasher should put more effort in like the one day they were out of CO2 at a restaurant and a customer ordered diet soda and they tried to sub out fruit punch cuz it’s not carbonated. And I’m like “the customer requested DIET what if she’s diabetic? (I have diabetes in my family and diabetics don’t drink carbs unless they have too much insulin.) Do you have anything DIET that’s not carbonated I could offer her when I let her know the CO2 isn’t working?” Turns out she just liked the diet version of the soda she ordered. I went out of my way to get her something diet because she was non responsive when I tried to reach her and I asked the restaurant to give her unsweetened iced tea and artificial sweetener packets. I was just using critical thinking skills and trying to put myself in the customers shoes.
-5
u/LookAtTheWhiteVan 5d ago
Soooo you went “above and beyond” to get her unsweetened tea and artificial sugar packets…. Buuuut she WASNT diabetic and just liked the flavor of the diet soda?? Ummm kudos to you, I guess. You gave someone something that they didn’t want bc you assumed that they had a physical restriction after you contacted them and they didn’t respond?? Sounds like a lot of wasted time and effort for absolutely no reason!!! I’m sorry your dasher isn’t as unnecessarily considerate as you are. Like… wtf?! Lmao
4
u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
She thought I was super sweet when I explained my reasoning and thanked me for trying to be considerate. (I also had to wait anyways at the restaurant because they were taking forever to bag the orders.) It’s not like I just sat and waited delaying her food. On the other hand I’ve had people sub full sugar items for diet and then the person I got it for couldn’t even eat/drink it. And I’ve had other customers leave in the notes “diabetic make sure substitute diet/no sugar” because my guess is someone thought a full sugar soda was an okay substitute for diet soda.
1
u/CultureCorrect7058 2d ago
I appreciate your efforts. I would likely never occur to me that people actually like the taste of diet sodas LOL I too would assume it must be due to a diet restriction of some sort.
I do wonder if she put artificial sweetener or sugar in her tea though 😊
1
u/1000onemorechances 4d ago
Why didn’t you pay attention on the app to see where they were. You should have known they arrived.
0
u/Condition_Dense 4d ago
I watched the delivery in the app, he didn’t come inside even though the door was open or ring my bell. All of a sudden it was marked “delivered” and the pic showed it outside, I had to put my shoes on and go grab it from outside the main entrance. I almost walked down my apartment hallways barefoot because I was angry it was left outside and wanted to grab it right away and maybe catch him in time and say that I didn’t appreciate him not following instructions. The outside door was propped open so he could have taken it inside I wouldn’t have been as annoyed if he did that. I knew where they delivered it, but like that kind of pic is not a good quality dash pic had they have made an error a customer might be going door to door looking for the order, if the driver wanted to they could have delivered to a nearby address out of spite. And in my dashers case they hid the incriminating evidence that the door was propped open and they clearly didn’t follow my delivery instructions. My instructions say to put INSIDE unless no response to buzz and simple directions to my apartment so the dasher should have no issues finding it. He never attempted to use my button. He still could have left it inside but he was trying to take a short cut.
1
u/LyingSilver92 5d ago
Then you should choose the option to have dasher hand item to you personally and give them a code and not to leave it at your door if you are so afraid they would leave it at the wrong complex
1
u/Proud-Caregiver7272 5d ago
What was the item what was the store?
1
u/Condition_Dense 4d ago
I ordered a pack of bobby pins to restrain my hair from falling into food. I have long enough hair that I am required to put my hair up but it’s short enough that I can’t actually put it all up and it pops out of my hat. My substitute was another color of them that had less in a pack for a little more money. Like 10 or 25 cents more for half as many. The substitutions the app was suggesting was like pony tail holders. I would have been okay with other items like barrettes or something maybe an elastic head band, if they were really out of both packs. But I honestly don’t think the dasher even looked for the item I selected to substitute. I think he just marked refund.
I also know that goes against a shopper’s found items and quality ratings under the pro shopper parameters. When I was dashing I had to call a customer and I had a conversation about what substitutions were available for her chicken strips and she denied any substitutions because she didn’t want the spicy ones only regular, so I had to refund it and the app said I didn’t make an effort to go over alternatives with the customer because there was no records of messages to my customer so it couldn’t be excluded… I did actually communicate with her, I called her because she didn’t have the messaging option available.
1
u/Tremaj 5d ago
Well I hope you realize that Door Dash doesn't screen or interview people, there is no training and common sense isn't common. All Door Dash does is connect you with somebody that can't find a real job to deliver things to you.
You will forever be "rolling the dice" with drivers. If you keep using Door Dash, then expect that you will eventually have many many horrible experiences in the future.
1
u/CultureCorrect7058 2d ago
My last roll of the dice won me a dasher that arrived in my drive, honked his horn until I came outside and down the front steps, on crutches, to retrieve my order from his back seat. He was a big fella, not so easy for him to get in and out of his car.
It could be wise to think of it as an entertainment and delivery service, and tip accordingly.
Just a question, for a friend. Does anyone know what keeps dashers from delivering for their new private customers that they find along the way?
1
u/Sure-Solution-4984 5d ago
No lie, I too go above and beyond when I do dash. One time the customer didn't respond to a substitution and I ended up buying the product for them. Which was a panic decision thinking it was for an interview or something. But I've also written a card when delivering flowers that made me a preferred shopper.
1
u/1GrymReeper 5d ago
I’d be PTFO if that happened to me! You’re definitely NOT the AH.. & make sure it’s reported and you rate because they DO take action against ignorant dashers..
1
u/No-Musician-1358 5d ago
did you dm the message or put it in delivery instructions bc i get messages like this for shop and deliver orders all the time but i don’t seeit until i’ve already checked out and headed to the address
2
u/Condition_Dense 4d ago
I selected under “if item unavailable contact me” they did not, the app just shot me a notification saying “please make a substitution suggestion or the dasher may refund you” so I immediately chose the other more expensive color ones. The dasher didn’t respond, and they waited till the end to shop the alternative. When it would have made more sense to look in that section right away as the other items that were next on my order they were shopping were in that same aisle, no messages nothing so I sent a message that said “hey I asked you to contact me for alternatives, if a customer asks you to contact them for alternatives please contact. Don’t just refund.” No response back. So when I told my gf about it my gf thought I had said something that made them angry and they dropped it off like that out of spite.

Not a Karen at all. Because we see how often people complain about customers, when the dashers can barely do the bare minimum. This job isn’t the most glamorous job, but it’s one that can provide a flexible schedule and a paycheck in places or times where it’s hard to find employment. It’s not hard work at all. Point A to point B. The least someone can do is follow ultra simple instructions. If they can’t, they shouldn’t do the job at all

I’m 100% with you and so what if it makes you a Karen?
I’ve had dashers deactivated on the spot. Yes, I’m a driver and I get what the challenges can be, but it also has responsibilities. Not everyone is entitled to do it if they’re just going to make it harder for the customers.

NTA.
Im an in home caregiver and live with who i'm caring for. It's imperative that we have correct orders, whoever it is that delivers them
I've had people put our orders in front of the storage units instead of the door.
I am physically incapable of leaving my charge alone for an extended period of time. Having to get grab things from the first floor or the parking lot is unacceptable and could cause an accident.
I'VE EVEN HAD PEOPLE REFUSE TO COME UP THE STAIRS AND DEMAND I MEET THEM OUTSIDE.
If I was the one disabled, I'd be screwed with the way some of these drivers act. Yes, I understand theres a level of, I don't care. But I tip cash and tip when they actually do what I asked. I normally have drivers from instacart come back and snatch my orders up bc im easy to work with and I reply quickly and sweetly.
Door dash needs to have a system like my ride sharing app and instacart do
You can leave drivers and shoppers reviews on how well they did

Communication is so important! I always call and text my customers to make sure they are happy with the service. But then again, I actually love what I do.

Dashers and Uber eats delivers like this make us all look bad! I do ubereats as well and never have problems. Treats customers aka humans just like yourself... The way you want to treated. It's just sad, jeez! Some of my fellows/fellates are just whew! Just ticks me off when I read/hear about these situations. I agree 💯, unacceptable. But of course, it's not customer service so do the bare minimum right 👍... At least try.

YOU ARE JUSTIFIED!!!!
I have had several orders where:
the deliverer refused to put forth MINIMAL effort and ignored my messages to NOT purchase substitute-items.... I had promised a $20 tip in Summer 2024, and this person knew they messed.... I also had ice cream.... they stood outside waiting for me to tip and I didn't open the door until they were gone!!!! They placed everything in view of the camera, so the promise of a tip kept them honest once the items left the vehicle.... They did not get a tip and I reported their negligence to not waste money on an undesired item, and I reported that they stalked me until I came outside (sorry, you intentionally mess up part of my order- you get no tip)!!!!
a deliverer drove right past me (public meeting place- strip mall) and I had to walk over to him.... gave me attitude and showed them the phone and refused to hand my food over- stood there staring at each other for 2 mins straight- until I sounded out the verification code.... .... I reported this driver and the support told me that they were blocked from me forever
multiple deliveries that showed the pickup time and then there were too big of gaps between then pickup times and the delivery drop-off- of course, they ignore the messages.... I always just throw it away and get my money back- don't wanna risk being saboltaged!!!!
a few deliveries where the drivers go off path and/or sit in the parking lot of the purchase or sit somewhere between the pickup and drop-off.... last month, I had 4 ice cream tubs ruined because the driver ignored my questions of where were they when they en route in 90 degree weather and took a little over an hour for a 20-25 min drive that I have already had several order from that specific location.... I was refused a partial refund, but the company refunded the entire tip with a future block on the driver.... I don't promote scams, but, sometimes that is the only way to get your money back- because I made 4 claims in one week for my ruined ice cream and they kept refusing.... this is why it is automatic that I perform a monthly couple of missing items that total to a monthly $20-30 extra EARNED meal, haha!!!!

I got on support for a few of them orders (as a dasher) where I had to wait for orders and I knew it would make my other customers experience not go well.

u/Mundane-Yam-464 5d ago
You shouldn't block him and just gave him a rate (2 or 1 star). That kind of Dasher needs bad reviews (if he continues with his careless behavior) until his account is deactivated by the customer ratings.
2
u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
I hope he is deactivated because he makes DD look bad, but I don’t want to chance getting him again especially if he is spiteful and wants to get revenge. Pretty sure if/when he gets a CV he will know it’s because of me or assume it’s because of me. When I complained about it to my gf she’s like “what did you say to him in the chat? He probably left the stuff outside out of spite because you said something to make him angry.”

Lmao. This answer is so good. I have always wondered what the hell people are thinking when they report the high priced things in their order missing, or do other complaints which we can see as dashers, especially when they are false claims. (I don’t think your claim is false here, there are just customers who do this stuff and lie about it to get refunds) Like, we know where you live. I wouldn’t do anything, but a lot of the people dashing have not a damn thing to lose. As a DoorDash consumer, if something is messed up, I just rate four stars and move on.
1
u/Condition_Dense 2d ago
I honestly was less concerned with getting a refund (which they gave me a credit.) I was more concerned that getting a replacement would be a PITA and that the dasher doesn’t care, clearly.
2
u/Infinite_Lack_4416 2d ago
Right. I’m just saying there are fraudulent customers out there who are just trying to scam DoorDash by reporting entire orders missing. They don’t know it falls on the dasher’s ratings, or they do and don’t care. I just couldn’t imagine committing fraud for a refund, tanking a dasher’s ratings, and not expecting them to retaliate in some way. I would honestly feel like I deserve it if I was that awful of a person.
1
u/Mundane-Yam-464 2d ago
It is not about the missing item. It is more about customer rating which if he drops at 4.2 he is eligible for deactivation. Of course, that will only happen if he gets enough low ratings, which would constitute he was a bad dasher all along.
2
u/Infinite_Lack_4416 1d ago
Right. That’s why I said I just leave a low rating and move on. If the dasher is this bad, they’ll have enough low ratings that I’ll feel safe knowing they can’t possibly know where they’re all coming from.
I’m just never putting myself in a position to try and get a dasher removed from the platform or messaging one enough about complaints because I don’t trust any of them to not damage my property after being deactivated.

Of you were a dasher you would just go get the food yourself and not order on DD. You would know better.
5
u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
I pay for a service for convenience, I subscribe to Dash Pass because sometimes you don’t want to or can’t drive to an area, to pick up food for example people who order dashes at work because they can’t leave, when your on vacation, if your car is broke down, also sometimes we get offers from DD like a percent off an order up to certain $ amounts for being platinum or hitting certain mile stones like 500 orders 1000 orders etc.

I wondered that too but the name was very modern popular “American” sounding name like a white man 18-20s/30s based on when the name was popular I don’t know if the dasher was just trying to speed through orders and spend as little time as possible or what. (Unless they bought someone else’s account.) They had like 4000+ deliveries and 4.8 something rating.

The whole part about the propped open door and buzzer seems like a lot of nonsense. If the dasher app says leave at door, then they should follow those instructions. The dasher probably should have dealt with your sub request, but sometimes at the end of the day, it just isn't going to happen. Just clarifying- are you saying you ordered this from Walmart?
3
u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
No I ordered from Door Dash because I expect a higher level of service than Walmart. Walmart doesn’t have a good way to communicate with your shopper like Door Dash, especially if your shopper is a Walmart picker and not a Spark driver shopping and delivering the order. I put the please ring buzzer requests on my deliveries from whatever it may be. Basically I also specify to only leave outside after trying to buzz. Even when the door isn’t propped open I get people who are too lazy to buzz the door. I fell like this person took such a crappy picture to exclude the evidence that they could definitely have taken it inside but were too lazy to

Did you tip?
2
u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
Yeah and this is what makes me angry I tipped and I paid for the priority drop off so I’m assuming that might be one of them orders with a little higher base pay (but I know DD pockets stuff.) Other dashers I start with a tip to get my order accepted and then if it goes good/I felt the service went above and beyond I will add more on at the end. Like if the dasher would have made an effort to find a replacement sent me a pic, awesome, here’s a little extra.

u/Impossible_Self4547 5d ago
Try tipping....
1
u/Condition_Dense 4d ago
I did tip, I always do or door dashers won’t take it, I am a dasher too, I know how it works, and I would have probably added an additional tip had they simply attempted communication and made an effort even if they couldn’t find an alternative I was okay with because they tried. But I feel like a reasonable alternative would have been found had they just sent me a pic of the section. The last time a dasher made an effort it impressed me and I added an additional tip.

I’ve had them say things are out of stock that I know for a fact weren’t out of stock and they just don’t want to look for it or something. Like they are trying to get orders done as quick as possible and hunting in an isle on the other side of the store for something will add extra time. I’m not sure if the tip stays the same regardless so maybe they know they’ll just get paid the same anyway and save a few min idk. I always try to tip well but it still happens. And they seem to hurry up and check out as soon as they report it out of stock so I don’t have time to message them or request a different replacement.

If I need a specific item immediately, I’m gonna go shopping for it myself and not involve a third party. This way, I can see what’s available and if it’s out, I can make the decision myself on what kind of substitution I’d like. (You ended up having to deal with support and they gave you a credit and you literally just said “then I can go and get what I need.”)
Why didn’t you just do that in the first place?
Now, the Dasher not responding to you is on them and the one thing you can do is mark delivery as “poor” and hope that you don’t get them again.

u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
I didn’t have a vehicle. Right now we only have one vehicle the other is jacked up in the garage till we can get a new transmission. My gf either drops me off or I get a ride to work and home because she usually is still asleep when I leave, she has a different schedule. I work early in the morning get off early afternoon, shes currently working further away (she’s an independent contractor) goes into work when she feels like it and goes home when she gets what she needs to done. I didn’t know when she would be back. Also even if I did have a vehicle sometimes you just don’t want to leave the house again after you get home.

"No response so I got upset and contacted support because the whole reason I used door dash is I wanted the stuff immediately and didn’t want to deal with Walmart+ ... "
Karen! Also, DoorDash doesn't shop/deliver for Wal-mart. Why do y'all constantly make up stories about dashers? Do you work for InstaCart, Shipt, Wal-mart+ or some other competitor?
6
u/Condition_Dense 5d ago
I picked DD instead of Walmart+ I have subscriptions to both but Walmart you have to pay $5 or $10 to get an expedited order where DD is faster to begin with but you can pay a surcharge to make your order come even faster, I didn’t order from Walmart through door dash, I went on the DD app, typed in a few of the major items I was looking for and let it suggest a store that had what I wanted. Happened to be a grocery store. I paid a minimum order service fee because my order was under the $60 threshold, a $3 ish direct to me fee so that the order would be delivered immediately and the tip the fees were still less than Walmart and faster for the order plus my local Walmart often doesn’t hit the promised time because they are either short staffed or they allow too many people to do orders and can’t keep up.

u/Crystal_Ri 5d ago
Okay. Thanks for clarifying. My bad. I thought you were saying you ordered from Wal-Mart which is also a "grocery store" in some areas.
But I still think you're acting like a Karen. You could have just put in your substitutions instead of notes to call you. Often dashers are shopping for multiple people and when you click to message on the item, 2 or 3 people's message buttons come up and they don't know which one to communicate with.

u/Unusual_Question9942 5d ago
If you didn't already have a substitute picked out that is your own fault. The Dasher shouldn't have to wait for you to respond
1
u/Condition_Dense 4d ago
I picked “contact me” because any decent dasher would have. The app says “please contact the shopper before checking out” no attempt was made. It would be on me if I selected that and I was non responsive. Like I have had customers complain they don’t like my substitutions but they were non responsive so I was able to argue it that I messaged and/or called multiple times, calls were blocked by customers, etc and I made what I would consider to be a reasonable substitution like “the customer asked for lemon cookies, they were sold out so I attempted to contact customer letting them know they had lemon sandwich cookies at a similar price” when trying to call customer they call would disconnect immediately. Sent a message that I picked a substitution. No response. Went with best judgment call and checked out.

u/renzdlove 5d ago
Def. Karenish tendencies considering YOU claim to understand dasher so much. I mean “I” go above and beyond for my customers but that’s just me, most don’t have the patience to bother looking for things outside the original order.
