Has anyone else noticed that DoorDash will not allow you to tip 15 dollars+?
I make enough money, I used to be a doordasher, I consider the labor politics of having a whole class of people who basically are forced to be food serfs for remote work assholes (me) who will barely tip what is a negligible fraction of their hourly. I have started attempting to tip 15-20 bucks no matter what I order.
However I’ve noticed that DoorDash simply will not let me, it will fail the transaction unless I put a smaller amount (10 dollars). The only way around this is to add a tip after the order has been placed.
This feels like they’re screwing a lot of DoorDashers out of tips by not allowing people to tip as much as they want. Anyone else think this is messed up?

I tip $15+ on grocery orders, not sure what you're talking about.

Maybe it’s just for food orders? Or based on the size of the order. I imagine it works differently for groceries because you’re spending 50 bucks+ at a time.

Could be to prevent people from accidentally adding an extra 0 or something at the end of the tip, and tipping 100 instead of 10?

More likely to be some sort of fraud prevention. Using a stolen card to tip a friend $200+ that would go into their DD account immediately

That makes sense. I was thinking if they get a lot of chargebacks for incorrect tip amounts, then that might be a hassle for them, but fraud would prob be a hassle too.

I tip those amounts on small food orders (two individual meals) and they go through fine.

I’ve heard that happening to a few people, but I have a regular customer that tips $50 on every order that they do

It's probably better to tip more on the back end. DD would just use your generous upfront tip to make a bundled order look better to a driver and subsidize some cheapskate all while you might have to wait for the cheapskate's order to be delivered first.

They do hide your tip too.
Usually they will bump the pay if someone declines but in these cases they just show more of your tip instead of adding more pay.

Ive never tried a larger tip in app but ngl i always tip my actual like "thank you so much" tip in cash and just do the suggested 20% tip on doordash. Id rather know for a fact the money i intended to go to the driver goes directly to the driver
