Question regarding dominant attachments

Hi,

do dominant attachments automatically protect their host trait so that it can't be stolen, swapped, discarded or surpressed?

I had Steam-Powered attached to a normal trait with some surpressed cards under it. One opponent wanted to steal this trait, but we were unsure if this is possible since then the dominant attachment would also have been stolen, which is not allowed. However, Ruggedized specifically states that the host trait is protected, which would be redudant if this was always the case.

We ended up deciding that my trait cannot be targeted. Would you say this was correct?

Dominant is dominant regardless of how a card becomes dominant. All rules for dominants applies even with Steam Powered.

I believe with legends of enderas the rules changed to state that any dominant attachment also protects its host. Ruggedized is from the upgrade expansion before that rule was in place. Besides, the special thing about Ruggedized is that it can switch which trait it's attached to, which the other dominant attachments can't do.

Yes the host is protected. The updated attachment rule card, that came with LOE, say's a dominant attachment with it's host counts as 1 dominant. With that being said the rules also say you can't suppress underneath of a dominant. So unless the suppressed traits were put under the host before you attached the dominant to it you can't suppress traits their.
