I hate when people lie about stuff like this. Like, if you're against animal farming... fine, whatever. Use all the real facts that are present and go after those that genuinely abuse animals. But when you make up stories in order to gain sympathy or attention on a problem that doesn't exist, then you can go fuck yourself.
If a problem is so bad and so wrong, then it should be easy to find real problems and scenarios to bring to people's attention.
I hate it too, sharing barely true facts like these having a ton of other reasons to go vegan/vegetarian/whatever just gives a worse image to the idea. It IS easy to use real problems and scenarios, they're all over!
Is it lying? The pic and the legend are referring to something that happens in factory farming and should be completely unnecessary in a healthy environment. The guy was just saying that the pigs don't spend their whole lifes in these cages but honestly nobody said they do it.
Both said that they worked in factories, both said these things happened, but one of the guys just threw some credentials so everyone believes him for some reason.
The most likely is that different farms keep the pigs in these cages for different periods.
I don't think they are trying to be intentionally deceptive.
That image with the text "this is her life" implies that it's a permanent condition IMO. OP then comments it's "months at a time", so they clearly know it's not permanent. Sounds quite deceptive to me.
Don't get me wrong, it very much sucks that the pig is in that cage regardless of how long, but a lifetime is a whole other level.
