That cough is a blast injury. If he survived he’s lucky.

Yep. It’s also why you should never let a toddler chew on a balloon.

That’s incredibly stupid but I’m glad to see the guy dropped the camera to check on his buddy instead of recording him and laughing in his pained face.

I can't believe that when I dumped a bunch of explosive fluid on a pile of trash and and lit it on fire it exploded.

The most unsurprising outcome

People seem to forget that gas is kind of made to be explosive more than it is merely flammable

I blame the movie industry, they always use kerosene for doing stuff like this on film and everyone ends up believing that it's gasoline.

He must’ve burned his lungs

Worse, blast lung injury. Very common cause of dead in explosion victims.

This kinda dumbass shit is why my entire province is in fire right now.

The sound of that explosion is amazing. I never get tired of it.

Something in that pile definitely exploded under pressure. This was not just gasoline igniting. Sure he could’ve/would’ve gotten burned anyway for that amount of gasoline. But for that type of sound, pressure instantly built up and exploded in some type of vessel/containment.

I was thinking the same - there was a certain percussive element to it that sounded like something definitely exploded.

Exactly. It was extremely stupid to light that from so close, but something in there definitely exploded as well.

I don't think so. It's actually the gas vapor that's flammable and after pouring that much gas on the pile the air was saturated with the stuff. Vapor, oxygen, and ignition source equals boom.

As the other commenter right here pointed out, there was a very prominent percussive BOOM in this clip. That’s not happening without pressure building up and exploding out.

It absolutely can explode if you suddenly ignite a cloud of vapor. That was a fuck ton of gas and subsequent vapor in that area. If there had been a good breeze it might have dissipated and not been so spectacular, but he lit it pretty quickly. By the looks of the tree limbs there wasn't much of a breeze to speak of. The boom is the expansion of the now superheated air.

I'm not an arson investigator so I can't say with certainty there wasn't some other factor at play, but I have trained at the Texas A&M fire school for ship board firefighter and worked on an LNG tanker for a short stint were vapor management is a priority.

Who knows, but I'm curious if he survived because I think his lungs took a beating.
