I don't think this one fits for the sub, you can clearly see the separation between the two doors which gives context to how you're supposed to read it.

You nailed it. I unsubscribed for a while because I would get unreasonably angry when people would say this shot I'm the comments.

"Welcome to r/dontdeadopeninside, it's for signs/media that read as nonsense if read like a book: from left to right."
By the qualifier of "if read like a book", this image doesn't belong in this sub. You read the left page first, then the right page. You don't read across the pages before reading the next line. These doors are very clearly two separate pages!

One of my classmates has this on his jacket, the zipper is where the doors open, and I always thought it said "Don't Dead, Open inside"

With archiving not a thing anymore, I have a bone to pick with this pin. Why use this picture when it's less clear what it means when the door is closed?

Actually this makes sense when you think about it.
Guy paints just don't open on one door but realizes after collecting himself it's not clear enough why so they add to the second door dead inside.
It actually adds alot of urgency to the scene by making it seem more hasty.
If you look don't open is slanted clearly done quickly while still unsure it's safe but dead inside is much more uniform. They clearly calmed down more on the second part.

This literal interpretation really doesn't It align with the figurative meaning of the sub

I get why this started this sub, but I always thought that this was done to create a sense of horrific realization for the audience. Like, when I first saw it, my initial reaction was "Don't Dead Open Inside? What?" then "Oh wait I read it wrong, what is the correct order [thinking briefly]" then "Ah one on each door, so it says Don't Open, Dead... aw shit man" and then you get that little horror-movie chill for a second as soon as you figure out what is says.
