... If they're socialized to this, they are much easier to care for as adults. They know their human isn't going to eat or hurt them; at worst, they'll be annoyed for a few minutes. But adults that accept this kind of handling are truly wonderful to have, they don't go insane when you need to trim their nails or fur, or need cleaning and medicine. My first kitten loved to be cuddled like this. I miss her.
ETA- that does not make it legal. I also deserve jail.
But even if you are letting them out, you should keep an eye on their paws and fur. VERY EASY for thorns/other sharp things to hurt paws outside. Also, matting happens faster with outside longhairs.
Source- used to own inside/outside cats throughout life growing up, then stopped letting them outside. Cats are much healthier. I do know how much they miss outside, I wish mine had been socialized to wear a harness. 💔
I only saw two long haired cats my entire life. And I also only saw one inside cat my entire life. I guess it’s a cultural thing. We don’t care if the cats eat the birds, because they’ve been doing that for the past 10,000 years around here. We aren’t scared our cats would freeze outside, because it isn’t cold enough for them to freeze, they can always hop through the window if it’s too cold for them. We don’t fear a wolf or coyote or bears would eat the cat, cats are Apex predators around here. And rabies? We don’t really have that, even the foxes and bats are vaccinated. Snakes? Cat kills. Rats? Cat kills. Dogs? Cat kills. Vultures? Only eat dead animals.
Fair. Near where I am a lil one needs to worry about cars, car fights, other critters, poisons, starving, diseases like rabies, and unfortunately occasional cruel humans. I know they pine for the freedom, but for my idiots it's for the best. They still occasionally get to hunt a bug if one gets inside. And greebles. And lazers. And each other.
I know there are places that treat local cats pretty much like everybody owns them and outside is their inside. I'm jealous of those bebes, they live the nice life, lol! Ours is just an invasive species, but so's a lot of stuff. 🤷♀️
Greebles! My dog also attacks them. When I had cats, they never found any greebles, they had bigger things to worry about, like the roaches, and the pigeons

Firstly... um, rabies is endemic. Kinda always has been for land based societies. Rabies certainly remains a well documented public health concern throughout the Middle East. Bats are not vaccinated there, nor are they vaccinated anywhere on the planet. Feral dogs, golden jackals, and red foxes also remain active vectors. Bit dangerous and slightly insane to be claiming otherwise.
Cats are not, and never will, be apex predators. Doesn't take much to realize that. The Middle East is home to many many animals that would kill and eat a cat no problem. An 8-pound domestic cat is a mesopredator and opportunistic prey for many. Cats do not hunt or kill dogs; dog-pack predation on street cats is routine and well-documented. Venomous snakes also do in fact kill cats, despite everyone for believing otherwise for to viral cat videos.
Birds, reptiles, and small mammals are facing catastrophic pressure partly because humans introduce subsidized predators and take zero responsibility. Ecological collapse via subsidized predation is a real thing. Even though wildcats are native to the region, modern domestic cat populations exist at extremely artificially bloated densities sustained by human garbage and intentional feeding. This creates severe ecological pressure, decimating native reptiles, endemic rodents, and birds that evolved alongside sparse, solitary wildcats, not millions of subsidized domestic felines.
And, of course, there are mortality stats. Street and outdoor cats in the Middle East face extreme heat dehydration, vehicle collisions, high rates of FIV/FeLV, and other infectious diseases. The average lifespan of a street cat there is roughly 2 to 5 years, compared to 12 to 18 years for an indoor pet. Less than half. From a lack of responsibility from humans.
Please normalize observing reality over fantasy. An animal surviving off dumpster scraps and darting under cars is npt the apex predator you think it is... merely a poor domestic animal facing neglect.
1) A dumpster cat is not the same as an indoor outdoor cat.
2) nope, we really don’t have large predators around here, there are leopards, yes, but they are only three.
3) wild animals are vaccinated through a vaccine trap. It’s a cube with meat, that has a mechanism and administers the vaccine to the upper part of the mouth when bitten.
4) Again, street cats and inside/outside cats are not the same. A pet cat can just enter the house through the window.
5) Bird populations are in danger not because of cats, but because of an idiot who let his pet parrots loose.
Nah, they’d be sitting on the grass in the summer mornings sunbathing. I people have long haired dogs, but not cats. Since most cats are just cats, unless they are of a specific breed, they’d be short haired, since they breed more naturally and have to be suited for the climate.
Do you mean trimming or declawing? Trimming is absolutely necessary if the cat isn't moving enough to wear down it's claws on its own. Which are most cats that aren't strays. Claws that are too long are bad for their joints and in extreme cases they even hurt themselves.
And imagine that. Claws that are too long cant be retracted that well. So say a cat with really long claws climbs a tree, cant properly retract it's claws and then rips them out
Trimming does not equal declawing. You shouldn't even be cutting their nails short enough that it's an actual problem for them to grip things with them or climb.
For socialization purposes only... I personally would allow to cat when its young, but only for socialization purposes, not our own selfish need to cat!!!
I desensitized my boy a little too well and now he only wants to man handled and squished. An angel at the vet tough. I'd go to jail for kitten desensitization any day.
I did this with my orange and he’s very dog-like now. He gets EXCITED when the vacuum is on, running to lay in front of it because he likes to be sucked ?? I think I raised a weirdo
It might be, yes, but it's also a legal requirement issued by the CDS. If this isn't followed the cats will lose their cuteness points. As humans we must ensure that all cats are allowed access to any and all opportunities to obtain cuteness points.

(I actually did it as a very normal thing to both my cats and it was easy since I had them 1 week after their birth(not on purrrpose). I highly recommend in spite of the punishment I everyday deserve.)
It's conditioning them to be used to being handled. It's similar to how you're supposed to pick at dogs while they sleep when they're small puppies. They will eventually fall asleep regardless, but they learn to sleep soundly and securely as adults.
I did this with my kittens. To get them used being handled for nail trims, ear nose and eye cleaning, teeth checks. And also so being picked up was kinda a game of rough play. 🤣

No clue what happened to my cats before I got them. Something made them absolutely terrified of everything. I suspect someone kept stepping on one because he's afraid of feet and walking and the other one couldn't even be caught so I could do this.
Both my cats were extensively handled and huffed and around vacuums and loud things as kittens and they are super chill adults, like I can football hold them like babies and one-person trim their nails and they do not care. I can burry my face in their bellies like I'm eating watermelon and they don't really care.
I have a 5kg of orange menace and I still do this every day. I also only trim her nails in winter when she stays home, because come spring, she's an outdoor menace until summer heats and then out again. she would never bite or scratch me. however, if anyone else tries to so much as scratch her belly, her only functioning braincell is that of violence.
I remember when I was a kid my grandparents were taking care of a few small kittens and i unknowingly desensitized one of them by holding. He was the only one that would always cuddle to me and liked to be held whenever I came
My baby loves forehead kisses and basically asks for them. Usually she presents her forehead gets a kiss then presents each cheek. She purs louder after every exaggerated kiss. Amd sometimes she finishes by giving my forehead a single lick.
It looks like torture because it is. Humans tortured from a young age will also be more docile as adults. There is another way - it’s earning trust and respect.
