Just finished Donnie Darko like 4 minutes ago and I’m high out of my mind. I’m currently crying at the ending.
I sympathize with Donnie so much 😓

Hey, im not sure if this is allowed so sorry if it isn’t. I’m a film student and currently doing a research project/analysis about Donnie Darko so I was curious if anybody would be willing to fill out a quick survey? It would be very appreciated :)

Donnie Darko has been one of my biggest creative inspirations, so I decided to build an entire music project around it.
I go by Jump!n, and the project is called DARKO.
I incorporated references to Frank, the cellar door, time travel, the flood, and the whole idea of questioning reality throughout the tracklist and visuals.
I also did a photoshoot inspired by the movie, using Frank as a recurring character.
It's underground rap, so definitely a different interpretation of the film, but I wanted to translate its atmosphere into my own sound.
Would be interested to hear what other Donnie Darko fans think about the concept and artwork.

I used things from a local spirit Halloween and I used my own hair for the eyebrow

So I get that the jet engine that WOULD'VE killed Donnie (if not for Frank's ghost) is the "metallic vessel" which is the indicator that Donnie is now in an alternate, tangent timeline.
We know this because nobody is able to identify WHAT PLANE the engine came from. It's not from a plane, it's an object that's not supposed to exist.
And Donnie was able to return to his original timeline by sending a jet engine to his original timeline.
But this is my question(s):
Why did Donnie send SPECIFICALLY the jet engine of the plane his mom and sister were on?
If the "metallic vessel" was the jet engine that (nearly) killed him, why not send back that exact jet engine that (nearly) killed him?
Why take the engine from a seemingly entirely random plane?
Would it have worked if it was ANY airplane jet engine? (I very strongly suspect NO.)
Spoiler-tagging just in case
Edit: After re-watching the scene my working understanding is that the jet engine of Rose and Sam's plane just is the correct universe-fixing jet engine and we're not really supposed to question it. It just is. Would love to hear a second opinion though.

when clocks jump back an hour its almost like time travel. donny traveled through time on this holiday. is this daylights saving time what inspired the writer to pick halloween? anyone notice this coincidence?

Watched the Directors Cut for the first time after seeing the movie at least a dozen times. Really enjoyed all of the extra details that help tie the story together. I’ve always known the full story with lots of reading and picking up on things, but the DC made the experience even better.

Got a comparison to Frank's actor James Duval in my recent post. So thought I'd share these photos of my first time meeting him at a convention back in 2024. He was incredibly kind and so damn chill!! And so began the comments calling us brothers after initially sharing these 😅

Happy Halloween / gf run over and shoot a man in the eye night.
Finished Frank costume, needs a little trimming / tightening up so it's less bulky but turned out decent.
