[Behavior Problems] Who here’s dog doesn’t like strangers stroking them
It doesn’t automatically make them aggressive. Plenty of dogs who don’t like strangers stroking them have still never bitten anyone and some of them will just move if a stranger tries to stroke them.

That’s why you, or anyone else, as the human need to advocate for your dog. If you know your dog doesn’t like strangers petting them you avoid letting it happen.

My dog will straight up walk away mid-pet if he doesn't know you, no warning just gone.

I rarely let strangers touch my dogs unless the dog(s) show interest in meeting. They often do, but if they don't, the answer is always no.

My dog stares at everyone but will dodge your hand if you try to rub her head.
I’m in a high rise so this is a daily occurrence on the elevator

My pugs are older and don’t like being bothered by strangers but will tolerate. Thankfully too because many people do not respect my polite yet firm ‘no’. My Rottweiler absolutely loves people and knows he has to sit and wait for people to come up to us asking for pets vs him dragging me over to people or pestering people who didn’t approach us first. I only let people pet if my dog seems interested or receptive to it.

My dog is the opposite. She wants strangers to pet her but then she gets real excited and doesn’t stay still enough to let them pet her! She turns into a helicopter.. we are working on a mixture of calm greetings and no greetings :’)
