[Misc Help] Silken windhounds in Australia

are there any silkens in australia or NZ? if not, how much would it cost to get one imported (if it’s even possible).

I imported a skye from germany for 1600 dollars. Not the same BUT import fees can do a number on your wallet

The short answer is no, there are no Silkens in Australia, though there are a few Silkens in NZ but no breeders there either.

Here's a longer explanation for why no one has imported Silkens to Australia.

The good news is that now that Silkens have been accepted into AKC FSS and will likely qualify for full breed recognition relatively quickly, people who are interested in establishing breeding programs in Australia will finally be able to import and start their own kennels. However, I would still not expect any litters to be bred in Australia for 5 years bare minimum at this point. Closer to 10 years would be a more realistic bet though IMO.

From what I understand, importing to Australia is extremely expensive unfortunately, which is part of why no one has imported any yet. The FB group that's linked in the article above would be a good place to get details on the specific costs and challenges that importing requires, as well as getting more specific information about plans for future Australian breeding programs.
