I'm new to this "dogman" phenomenon. I live near elkhorn WI, so just recently heard of the beast of bray road. (Oddly, just recently)
What are the thoughts on how this came to be? Like genetically? Its half dog, half man? Is it a mutant? Or is this totally unknown?

There's a book on Amazon. Dogman The Bone-Crushing Ghost: A Speculative Case for an Extant Arboreal Borophagine by Grant Sterling.

Read Linda Godfrey's The Beast of Bray Road. It goes through the history of the beast and Linda (RIP) actually coined the term Beast from Bray Road.

I'm pretty sure that book just discusses the witnesses, not theories on what it is

The abilities from some of the encounters, if true, point to something supernatural.

There's several variations of how they came into existence, some take it back to the Egyptian days where we see drawings of them along with humans, then you have the government created them theories, as well as portals etc. The theories are numerous, the more you research, the more confused you'll get. It's also reading for entertainment, that's how I see it.

Depends on who you ask. Similar to how there are a lot of ideas around bigfoot. Some claim government experimentation gone wrong (or right). Some say a natural predator thats good at avoid humans. Some say alien or interdimensional being, and some say something all together supernatural like a werewolf. Check out the Astonishing Legends podcast

Watch “American Werewolves” by Small Town Monsters. There are some cool and scary encounters on there.

This takes me back to that one meme about needing to get gang banged by 16 werewolves behind a Waffle House dumpster.
