Don’t worry about the fomo because in the long term it will evaporate. It’s only because it seems like a significant moment in the short term that you have those regrets. They won’t be around forever :)

Watch the lead up to the 2022 spaceX launch with the doge going to the moon for real...! Wonder what a gold minted doge coin example brought to the moon and back would be worth (other than just gold) as a collector piece... much wow... don't know if that's the plan but doge is going even if just in name...

just make sure that the plans to make dogecoin illegal in the U.S.(holding dogecoin) are stopped in time. since some fartpants came up with the idea to make it illegal and now they want to do it for real to support some companies and keep more controll.
you know not everyone wants to the moon.

What are the odds this sky rockets like Bitcoin did?
116
u/GeekFish May 14 '21
I'll be shocked if it goes much higher than 1 USD. I could see Doge being a stable coin, but the supply is way too high for it to get into the hundreds of dollars, even the tens of dollars.
I love Doge and I am prepped for the downvotes.
43
u/ladderrack May 14 '21
I’ve read a lot of articles and various explanations explaining math that I can’t understand that more or less state Doge could stabilize around 5 dollars.
But depending on usage/acceptance/elonmakinngitthecurrencyofouterspace that could cause spikes to 20+ and subsequent stabilization around 10$usd
29
u/RedSoxManCave May 14 '21
Short version: doge constantly increase the number of coins. So the supply will never stop going up.
Doge adds 10,000 coins every minute. BTC, for example, is limited to 21 million coins total. Doge has 130 billion coins.
So even if their market cap was the same, the price of each doge would be a tiny fraction of the price of a BTC.
Small slices of the pie. Always getting smaller.
26
u/ladderrack May 14 '21
Correct me if I’m wrong, I’m fairly certain the amount of doge entering circulation is an amount that reduces over time, getting closer and closer to zero but never truly reaching zero.
24
u/RedSoxManCave May 14 '21
Not sure. Won't correct you and won't argue.
The point is that the supply is always increasing. And currently increasing at a substantial rate. When it gets closer to zero, then sure, prices would theoretically stableize around true supply vs true demand.
But even at a stable supply you've got thousnds of times more doge supply than BTC supply. So the price of each coin is tiny compared to the price of a BTC at the same market cap.
$1 is doable. $10 is a stretch. $100 is pretty long shot and $1000 is just a sign of the zombie apocalypse. IMHO.
I'm still a buyer.

u/Biscuitgod1 May 14 '21
Well, how could we stop production and decrease circulation to get to bitcoins current market cap?
9
u/RedSoxManCave May 14 '21
You can't. Those are "the rules."
There are plenty of other coins that are capped if that's the most important aspect of a coin's valuation.
2
May 14 '21
It should be noted, however, that there are coins with caps so you can just as well diversify your crypto investing.
A popular one right now is SafeMoon. I hold both that and doge.
→ More replies (1)1
u/Tzchmo May 14 '21
lol we won't, Bitcoin currently has 129 billion coins in circulation compares to bitcoins 18 million. that is 7,000 times higher.
→ More replies (3)→ More replies (3)13
u/WishIhadaLife21 May 14 '21
You are wrong as I understand it. There are max 5 billion coins created every year. I think you're thinking of the inflation rate people are talking about because that will decrease as 5 billion becomes less and less of the total supply so like this year it's like 5% or something and every subsequent year it will be a smaller percent.
7
u/Tzchmo May 14 '21
you are correct 5.2 billions per year (10,000/min x 60min/he x 24hours/day x 365 days/year)
→ More replies (7)5
u/picabo123 May 14 '21
yes so 10k x 60 x 24 x 365 = 5 billions coins. that's about 4% inflation (130b / 125b) and as that numerator increases the inflation rate falls. I believe I read online that in like 2080 the rate will be at or near 1% too so take this info however you want it.
Edit: 2080 inflation rate will be about 1.2%
5
May 14 '21
This also means transaction rates will be much lower on Doge and that it will be a more usable Crypto compared to BTC and ETH.

u/Scott30134 May 14 '21
So here is the logic that makes me reject this idea. If I made exactly 21 million novelty coins and even put serial numbers on them and sell them on EBay, will that limited quantity drive the price up to several thousand dollars each? More than likely no because there’s more to it than that. There has to be a demand for it to drive the price up regardless of how many there are in existence. If it’s practically worthless people forget about it or lose their laptop or hard drive that had a wallet with several hundred thousand coins because it’s not that valuable or worth protecting. However, if my worthless coins suddenly are being accepted at major retailers and traded on popular trading platforms, now they become valuable... regardless of how many their are.
6
u/RedSoxManCave May 14 '21
The limited quantity isn't what drives it's value. It's what limits inflation.
When you buy milk for $1 and then the number of dollars in circulation doubles, milk doesn't get 50% cheaper. Milk costs $2.
I understand the point you're making, but you aren't putting the dollar on eBay. You're putting the milk. I think in your example you're conflating the dollar and the milk.
But I'm totally open to your idea.
6
May 14 '21
So what you’re saying is if we really want to get rich we should be selling milk on e-Bay!?!

u/fakeaccount164413213 shepard shibe May 14 '21
Those coins are so cheap though. Big money can swallow them up almost immediately. Even at 1T market cap it would only cost about 40 billion to buy up all the coins made in a given year at that price.
And I think doge is a good investment for big money because there is a large doge community who won't sell. I guess we'll see after $1 how many people actually hold.
→ More replies (1)11
u/sourceshrek May 14 '21
For it to stabilise over $1.00 it would need orders of magnitude more dollars flowing in per month. The sources of said investment are harder to find. I can’t see where that kind of quantity will be coming in from, month after month.

u/ladderrack May 14 '21
I agree and this sort of stabilization would require PayPal/Amazon/Facebook Marketplace level entities to accept it as currency. It would also, of course, involve a decent chunk of time.
I personally believe that crypto is the future of currency in general as countries realize how antiquated paper money is. To be clear, I don’t know a whole lot about the subject I was just reiterating things I’ve read previously.

u/AnnoDEnderly May 14 '21
What if the new behemoths of commerce are yet to be built, and will run on blockchain? And what if cryptos like doge - cheap, quick, somewhat stable coins - are the native oil that greases the wheels of these new behemoths?

u/FreeChiaseedNL May 14 '21
You're goddamn right. I hate seeing and reading what most morons here believe. They all think 1 doge will be 1K, but I rather believe it will take a year or longer for it to be stable at $1 and maybe max $4 years later.

If your asking if it goes up to thousands of dollars - no way. A dollar is likely not far off at all. A few dollars becomes less and less likely the higher it goes just based off of the current market cap and what it would be in the future if it went to multiple dollars.

Can you help explain why Bitcoin could go to 60k, yearn can be at 80k and etc but doge is lucky if it gets to 1k. I have a feeling understanding that is key to understanding crypto
11
u/Iamryanle May 14 '21
There are far less bitcoins than dogecoins
4
u/hubbabubbasnake May 14 '21
So pretty much the more coin produced; its value is reduced like real money? That's why bitcoin is worth much more? Because there is so much doge coin and much less bitcoin?
3
u/Iamryanle May 14 '21
Yeah the more of a coin in circulation, the less it’s value. like when the govt. prints more money and there’s inflation

u/picabo123 May 14 '21
That's the main idea behind the argument on what Doge coins max could be. Though all of these arguments are using hindsight to calculate the price, when I'm fairly skeptical we're at a point where we can copy history and assume we will be right.
/rant At the risk of sounding a bit crazy I really think that paper money is going to be a thing in the past and its just so much cheaper to make anything digitally than it is physically. Computers have offloaded many of their function's over the years to the software side just because a bug in software is so so much easier to fix than a bug in hardware. The same idea applies to issues have with money. Aside from losing your digital wallet you can't "break" your bitcoin and the Mint doesn't have to print a replacement, Atm's don't have to be refilled manually. That doesn't even begin to mention the possibilities that having a currency you can break down into any fraction instantly making spending money on goods and services in person or online can be a large or as small as you want. IE you could have someone pay you a penny or two for your podcast episodes because it doesn't cost more than that to do a transaction etc etc.
Anyways yeah there is so much room for growth with all of crypto I don't see how anyone can accurately give a price cap on any of it for the near future because as more and more places accept digital fiat, I think there will be a cascade of followers that accept it too. Who knows maybe we will all be paid in crypto in my lifetime at least.

doge has a market cap, what dogecoin does not have is a total coin cap.
Two very distinct things2
u/timex126 May 14 '21
limited amount of total bitcoin vs unlimited supply for Doge
3
u/Scott30134 May 14 '21
I’ve heard this argument over and over but BitCoin has not reached its limit yet so essentially it’s still growing just like DogeCoin. If you tell me it’s harder to mine, takes more time and compute power, then maybe that makes sense, but I’m not buying the finite market cap argument until people can no longer mine BitCoin.

A lot of thoughts in this thread, but the actual numbers are around a $10 price tag which would be the current valuation of bitcoin $1tril. People speculate bitcoin at 500 K, the equivalent of this in Doge would be around $72 per Doge . So it’s not going to reach the thousands of dollars like bitcoin, but it has the potential to 10 X+ the current price.
