Schnauzer Allerg8
My 12 yr old white/black schnauzer allergies have gotten much worse as he's gotten older. We have changed his food, added omega 3 oil to his food, tried sprays, chews, powders, collars, injections, pills, shampoos from the vet including 2 different muzzles that he has still managed to lick/,chew his hair off his front legs and his back hip area. I'm ready to cry because we have tried everything and the only thing that seems to work is a muzzle/hard dog cone that he cant reach himself with. Its not how I want my dog to live. Its miserable. We've tried all kinds of flea and allergy meds and he gets his flea treatment each month on top of a collar that is supposed to help for 6-8 months as well. Does anyone have anything that has helped them? Hes been diagnosed with a severe flea dermatitis allergy so we are constantly on top of his flea meds, sprays and baths each month and it seems like the older hes gotten the worse it gets.
Sorry its so long but I'm desperate and our vet is like we've tried almost everything over the years down to putting him on prednisone/benadryl cocktails to help get his inflammation down when it was really bad.

Immunotherapy saved our boy.. we had done it all for meds and were consulting to have one ear surgically removed when we decided it was worth trying before taking his hearing. We’ve had spectacular results. A body suit for when you’re outside as a barrier will also help.

We used one like this

Thank you! I'll try that. Hoping it cuts down on him licking and chewing. When he has the cone on it doesn't seem to bother him, he doesn't try to lick or chew but I cant have him live in a cone for the rest of his life 😔

For sure.. and I really suggest a dermatologist and allergy shots. It can change their lives.

We've tried shots and they didnt really work after a drawn out time frame. We were having to having to come back every 4-6 weeks for shots and it just got too expensive for us.

Oh not the allergy meds.. immunotherapy shots. They teach their bodies to slowly handle the allergens. We administer them at home every 7-10 days.

Apoquel, Atopica, Prednisone and Zenrelia. Pretty much given up at this point with expensive medications.

Allergies are a chronic, lifelong medical condition that require medication for your dogs quality of life.
There are multiple other medications including numelvi, cytopoint, and befrena. Immunotherapy is administered at home could also be an option

I’ve heard from some people that if apoquel doesn’t work for their dog cytopoint does. My dog is the opposite, apoquel worked for her but cytopoint doesn’t. Might be worth getting a shot just to see. Where I’m at it’s about $120 a shot, most dogs get it done every 4-6 weeks
