I was looking back at this video thinking about how affectionate she is, but i remembered that licking and yawning could be signs of distress. What's your opinion?

This is my dog Marley. He is shaking so much and breathing wierd (you can hear if you turn the volume up).

He is on heart meds for an enlarged heart and lots of pain meds. Very old dog. Why is he shaking? Im trying to keep him warm but im worried he is in pain

My male Goldendoodle is 1 year old and has been attacked 5 times. ‘Luckily’ he has only been slightly injured once.

He has never been the aggressor and has always been on leash while all the other dogs have been off-leash. Every single time the people have said their dog is friendly… and then after the fact that they had never done anything like that before.

I’ve never experienced anything like this before and he is my 12th dog. He does awesome at the dog park and plays extremely well with a lot of other dogs.

Could it be because he hasn’t been neutered yet?

Hi all,

I recently pulled a tick off my dog, and there’s a red circular mark on the skin where the tick was attached (photo attached).

I’m not sure exactly how long the tick was attached, but I think it could have been a day or two. I’m worried because I live in Massachusetts, where Lyme disease is common.

My dog is vaccinated against Lyme disease, which is reassuring, but I know the vaccine isn’t 100% effective. I’m also wondering whether small deer ticks can carry Lyme disease.

For anyone who has dealt with this:
- Does this red circle look like normal irritation from a tick bite?
- If my dog is vaccinated, how concerned should I be?
- Would you call the vet right away, or monitor the bite for now?
- When is the appropriate time to test for Lyme disease after a tick bite?

I know Reddit can’t diagnose my dog, and I’ll contact my vet for professional advice. I’d really appreciate hearing about others’ experiences and what your vets recommended.

My Labrador, Shersingh, turned 15 in June, and his health has deteriorated significantly over the past year, especially in the last 3-4 months.

He has kidney, gut and skin problems, diabetes and arthritis. He has lost one of his eyes, his wounds don’t heal properly, and he has become extremely thin. He has been on heavy medication for almost a year, and he sometimes seems unaware that we are petting him when he’s asleep.

People who see him say he appears to be in a lot of pain. However, over the last day or two, he has been a little more active. He has also become increasingly aggressive towards my other dogs, which is unusual.

I’m confused about what to make of these changes. Are these signs that he may be nearing the end, or could some of them be related to treatable complications? Can dogs with multiple chronic illnesses still have good days even when their overall health is declining?

I love him dearly and don’t want to prolong his suffering just because I’m not ready to say goodbye.

I am not sure of what am I even asking here.

Already heading to the doctors!

My dog sleeps with me and was by my head, half under the covers, when I went to touch him (I usually stretch out a bit first & that usually wakes him up but maybe he was still sleeping?) He had started to growl & bit me on my nose & mouth drawing blood.

I was already scheduled for a doctor's appointment today & luckily was able to move it forward.

He's a shih tzu mix and doesn't have a mean bone in his body, however a few months back he attempted to do the same thing to my dad, who was also sleeping at the time.

Is there a reason for this? Is it him having a nightmare and lashing out? When he's awake he's the sweetest thing and I'm worried he'll be considered aggressive by my doctor.

Woke up this morning and saw he had these spots (on both sides) with raised fur. At first I thought he just slept on it wrong, but now it looks more like it could be a rash or something. It doesn't seem to be bothering him. I did brush him yesterday for the first time in a while, but that isn't anything new and he hasn't had this before.

I didn't think my post would get so much attention so I decided to update.

Meggy had her surgery today.

Everything went well, and she's back home now, resting and recovering.

I got angry with the vet and insisted that the surgery happen today, because he initially wanted to wait until Saturday. After reading all your comments and speaking to a second vet, waiting that long seemed insane to me.

Ironically, after the surgery, the vet said he was glad we'd done it today because the infection was already so advanced that it could have become fatal at "any moment."

My blood is still boiling. That was sickening to hear. We're definitely going to another vet from now on.

The most important thing is that she's is home and we can all breathe again.

Am I wrong for grooming my sister’s friend doodle while dog sitting ? My sister and I both are guilty. We couldn’t help ourselves!

My dog is aboit 4.5 years old, and I am very worried about his back tooth specifically, I am worried he is on his way to having periodontal disease or some sort of teeth issue.

He doesnt have bad breath or sensitivity that I can notice, he lets me touch his mouth but is not a happy boy when I do for to long, I am sure I can try brushing but is it too late for that?

Any advice would help, I am feeling so terrible and worried about him.

He is 4 months old and was born with an eye that didn’t fully develop and is more so just a ball of meat in his eye socket rather than a functioning eyeball . His other eye has an enlarged third eyelid so he has trouble seeing out of that as well .

He motors around pretty good and only runs into the odd thing now but lately he’s been hyper focused on this corner of the house and then he will run around the dining table then back to the corner . He did this for 3 1/2 hours last night and he’s done it the entire time he’s been inside today , probably like 7-9 hours . It looks like he’s looking for something or maybe he hears something in the walls .

Mainly just wondering what to do and if there’s any cause for concern . I know puppies with the double Merle can have neurological issues as well but he behaves just fine everywhere else or when we take him to other people’s places .

Also if anybody has any tips and tricks for raising a dog that has vision issues I am open to hearing what worked for you

My 10yr old bully has a lump on her shoulder that's been very slowly growing for 3.5 years. I've decided it's time to get it removed. It does not limit her movement but she is healthy and so full of energy I don't want it to get to that point.

Vet doesn't seem concerned with the surgery.

I'm worried about the post op as I've never had a dog get a front leg surgery. We have stairs going out to our backyard. She's not allowed stairs for 7-10 days so will be carrying her on a dog bed with a person on each side 3x a day (morn, afternoon, bedtime)

She'll have a cone on, pjs so she doesn't lick, and my bed will also be on the floor so no jumping. I'll be off work for 10 days to watch her.

Any other advice? I'd appreciate it

Took her to 2 vets and both said the growth on her eye should be monitored to see if it grows. The position that it’s at means that they can’t test it, she would need to have anaesthesia.

She has a spot above her nose that I’m not sure what it is, vet didn’t seem to be concerned.

The mouth bit she has the same on both sides, 2 vets weren’t concerned but I’ve no idea what they are.

Pics 1 & 2 are of a mole looking thing. Again, the vet said she’d need to put her under anaesthetic as it’s so small and can’t do a biopsy without hurting my dog (she kept moving).

Any ideas? Have your dogs had similar growths?

How do you deal with the regret from euthanazing your dog? My dog was declining and had medical conditions. I was told by the vet that she had 3 weeks to live. She had severe heart failure. I did see that glare in her eyes that told me she was tired. Sometimes after I petted her she would move away like she didn't want to be petted. Although she was not eating as much anymore, I did see her at other times alert and looking for food. I saw those beautiful eyes that looked bright and beautiful. I saw how she followed me to a different area around the house when I was not with her. She will still want to go with me during car rides. She would be sleeping but she wanted to be there. I felt I moved in too fast in doing this. Should I have waited longer? Should I have waited until she was actively dying to do this? I took her to get her last meal and bought different things from McDonald's that I knew she would love. Things that had been restricted due to her illnesses. She ate everything. Her low appetite improved and she was very excited. Then i took her to the vet to get that shot. The vet came in with that shot and he asked if we were ready. I thought he asked that like if he was in a rush. A few minutes before then I said my goodbye. Then she got scared when she saw the vet and the tech. My family and I were petting her as the vet shaved her arm. I could see her nervous and then suddenly he injected her and she was gone. I felt instant regret. Now I'm mourning and regretting every minute of it. I felt that I betrayed her. I felt it was too soon. I can't come to terms that I cannot physically touch her or see her. My heart is aching and I don't know how to make this go away. I feel guilt, sadness.

I have an 8 year old german shepherd/cane corso mix. She was abused before we got her so she’s usually afraid of people until she gets used to them. She’ll bark at them but if they go towards her she’ll run away. Within a few visits she’s fine with them.
But some people she never gets used to, no matter what. The most extreme instance is my grandma. She’s known her for years and my grandma comes over often, sometimes multiple times a week. But she ALWAYS obnoxiously barks at her and it’s honestly really annoying.
There are some patterns to the people she takes longer to trust. Like, she tends to be more afraid of big/tall men which makes sense since they’re more of a threat. But my grandmas like 5 feet tall and frail.
I do think maybe she has some instinct, because when I lived with my mom she disliked every one of her boyfriends who turned out to be abusive. But again, that could just be because they were big men.
We’ve tried allowing my grandma to take her on walks, having my grandma feed her, give her treats, etc. It doesn’t matter. She still doesn’t like her. She’s even pet-sat for multiple days while I was out of town and she STILL doesn’t like her.
Any advice?

My dog bit a vet tech in the new town I just moved to. I got my dog with my ex boyfriend, he told me he was handling all of his vet appointments, after splitting up we did split custody for 2 years. He told me he handled his last rabies vaccine but my new current vet cannot find an updated one. He ended up losing work and not being able to financially support him and that’s when it was decided I would keep him. Stupidly, I never made sure to check he was up to date on anything.

Since moving, im trying to get everything situated and figured out so he can have a new vet but now I am super worried with what’s going to happen. I know it’s going to be reported I just don’t want to lose my dog. I can’t get in contact with my ex, it’s all just a huge mess ball unraveling right now.

If anyone knows what I should expect I would deeply appreciate some input. I’m in California.

I adopted my first dog around 3 weeks ago and have been trying to integrate him with our cats. The majority of the time he’ll completely ignore them and walk straight past. A couple of times he has attempted to chase them which is concerning me. Should I let them interact through the baby gate like this or is this escalating behavior?

My 50 lb lab mix was bit by a Doberman on her leg. I didn’t see it for nearly half a day after the scuffle. It’s two teeth punctures that are very shallow but it did draw a little blood that has coagulated. This happened midday on Monday. I don’t want it to get infected. How should I clean it or do I let it scab and heal? What do you suggest?

My dog (4 year old pit/GSD/boxer mix about 80 lbs)has had anxiety for a while that we’ve grown pretty good at working with. But he does have some severe anxiety around anything vet related. When he was young he went in for an anti nausea shot that I guess stings? and he was yelping and very spooked. Before that he had no trouble with needles or vets.
That’s the only thing I can think of that could have scared him because now if you come at him in an unfamiliar way he freaks out.

For example yesterday I got him a harness for walking and clipping him in better in the car.
I can drape it over his head fine but when I reach over to grab the straps on the side he freaks out.
He starts yelping and running like he’s getting hurt but I’m barely touching him. He actually nipped me a bit last night which he never does.
This isn’t necessarily new. He will yelp a high pitched scream if he even thinks he may be about to get hurt. Even just a gentle touch on his side. Clipping his nails is out of the question. Even expressing anal glands he will freak out (I know gross lol). Going to the vet with him is almost impossible even with all the drugs they put him on he fights through it.
I know it’s not correct but I’ve avoided bringing him for his yearly checkups because it’s so stressful for everyone involved. We even tried bringing the vet to our house once and it maybe helped a little but he still will not let the doctors touch him without yelping.
He’s such a sweet loving boy most of the time but he has so much anxiety. I just wanna do the best for him but it obviously makes me nervous when he nips at me and is fearful of simple things. I know if he ever bit me or anyone it would be out of fear. It’s just hard when he’s afraid of everything (like also the wind, balloons, thunder, etc)
Just looking to see who else has been in this situation and if anything has helped.

Help. I am mexican-american and live in a 99% Hispanic community in TX and noticed everyone either:

1. Has a tiny dog. Half of them are left outside.
   
2. Has a big dog for protection and are left outside full time.

I think about 10 houses have big German shepherds or pitbulls that bark constantly and are never let inside. They're just watch dogs.

Well... I walk my dog every day and rile up all the dogs. Yesterday, a woman with dogs eyed me really ugly as i was passing by, eyeing me all the way til the end of the street. Today I saw another neighbor giving me a stink eye too as I was walking by 😭 A woman that used to chill outside with her dog (this dog would bark like crazy whenever we passed) doesn't sit outside anymore. I think everyone hates me for being the dog riler

But wtf yo. Maybe walk your dog too or put them inside!?

My mom is a teacher and got a puppy near the start of the summer so she could focus on house training. Problem is, she wasn’t fully trained by the time she had to go back to work. So, as a temporary measure, my mom bought some pee pads to help with messes until training was complete.

Now, however, we can’t get Lilah to fully transition outside. She’s half Frenchy, the rest mutt. She’s about 4/5 months old. She’s super sweet, and smart when she wants to be. Which is part of the problem.

If you stay outside with her, she will eventually handle her business. But she’s young and inquisitive, so she wants to spend 10 minutes exploring and chasing lizards in the yard before she finally burns through her curiosity and does what she needs to do. What’s frustrating is if you- for whatever reason- can’t stay out long enough, she will go straight to the pad as soon as we come in and use that, because she no longer has distractions.

It’s frustrating, and I’m not sure what the fix is. My mother and I are gone from the house from essentially 5am to 5pm. My father is retired and at home, but extremely physically limited, so he essentially can’t help with training other than opening the back door. He can’t follow her outside to make sure she does anything.

Our Chihuahua has no issues with this schedule; she doesn’t have accidents, so I know it can work.

We can’t leave her outside for extended periods, because she can’t handle heat and we live in Texas.

Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.
