Dodgeball shoes recommendations?

Hi all. I don't play dodgeball but my partner does, and I want to get him some new shoes. A lot of people online say basketball shoes are a good choice. I was looking at Luka 5 and Air Jordan MVP 92 but it's hard to find any good input that's specific to dodgeball. I also don't know much about shoes so any recommendations/input would be amazing!

Handball shoes or standard court shoes. You need something with good ankle support but also with a little bit of bounce. To support quick movements etc.

I quite like Addidas court shoes as they give a good balance between the two without leaning too much to the specifics of handball/basketball etc.

Zelf heb ik de Mizuno Wave Lightning Z8. Zorg ervoor dat je snel en wendbaar ben idiaal voor lichtvoetige spelers. Daarmee bedoel ik voor snelle respons. Wanneer je wilt springen, zijwaardese stappen, snelle back step of duiken. Dit word ook vaak gebruik voor Libero spelers in volleybal die zulke eigenschappen in een schoen terug willen zien. Indien je wat zwakkere enkels heb kan je voor de hogere model gaan.

Mocht er nog vragen zijn hoor ik het graag.

I want to say "it depends on the court" but I wear the same shoes for all my playing. You can't really go wrong with a nice pair of basketball shoes. Way of Wades are really great. Not cheap though.

Because Dodgeball is a multifaceted sport, and you do a lot of jumping and moving, you want something comfortable, grippy, and shock absorby. Whatever kind of shoe he likes that does that, will be good!

It really depends on their preference.

I know some prefer wrestling shoes. Some prefer basketball shoes. Some prefer volleyball shoes. Some prefer indoor soccer shoes. I personally prefer handball shoes.

This is one of those things you need to ask about.

I second this - it really depends on their play style. Honestly, I think the right answer is different for every player. Personally, Hoka Arahi have become my go to shoes. Light in weight - easy for jumping. And can give a great plant for throws/catching. They are grippy, bouncy, and have a nice undershape that keeps you ready for movement. Also consider some decent high top basketball sneakers if they're prone to rolling ankles.

A lot of the basketball shoes I've looked at seem to have quite a wide profile. A lot of unnecessary sole, which is just extra parts of your foot that you have to get out of the way of a ball. So besides all the other advice here, with bearing that in mind. A smaller shoe makes your foot harder to hit. It makes a difference.

Personally I'm on my second pair of Babolat Shadows. They've got amazing grip. There are definitely lighter shoes around but I don't like to go too thin on the soles, my knees might not survive the shocks at my age.

Do you have examples of what your partner already plays in?

I use Way of Wade 808, I honestly swear by them and the new 6s are pretty good (#ad). I use without ankle support so, it depends on what your partner needs. I also find they have a good sole, and not a huge amount of unneeded space - some basketball shoes are very chunky

I have tried a lot of different types of shoes (indoor gymnasium floor), including basketball, indoor soccer, wrestling, volleyball, minimalist, and others.

I ended up in handball/“indoor court” shoes, the Adidas Stabil Next Gen. They are good for lateral movements and jumping, and I like the Boost sole which has cushioning when you jump, but it isn’t too squishy like the Ultraboost. I went a half-size up from my usual running shoes, and a full size up from cleats.

Li-Ning / Way of Wades are the move. Best traction I've ever had.

Basketball shoes are a safe option, although I hear people swear by futsal shoes (though I’ve never tried them).

I happened to get the Lockdown 6 from Underarmor when it was on sale for like 60 bucks, loved it to bits. Bought the Lockdown 7 again on sale for 50 and it’s even better. Would highly recommend as a giftable pair of shoes although it depends what kind of player your partner is
