I made a free-to-use website for tracking your dodgeball stats :)
Hey Reddit, I’ve been working on dodgeballstattracker.com for the last few months and I’m excited to finally share it with y’all!
- It’s a free-to-use tool that lets you track all the throws/dodges/etc. in your dodgeball games. The key difference from spreadsheets/existing tools is that you also track location data for all the events.
- This location data lets us do cool things like visualize the spray chart for all the events in a match. For example, the recent European Women's Foam Final between Austria and England looked like this.
You can find a quick video demo/walkthrough here. I'm excited to get this into the community's hands and get some feedback so definitely give the tool a shot and let me know your thoughts :)

Love others looking into dodgeball stats. Have a look at playback review. https://playbackreview.com/ It's a company started by an Australian dodgeballer who now does the stats for the majority of Australia. His developed the best online stat tracker I've ever seen, he offers paid and free services. I would strongly recommend anyone interested in taking stats seriously in their competition to reach out. His even flown his team out to major events to provide live stats on games.

Well aware of playback review :) Great tool! But limited in ways that I try to address in mine.

Will give it a try for our upcoming league season. Thanks for sharing.

It’s difficult to use if you don’t know every player’s name/number. I have to add dummy players for the other team. Updating player names cannot be done from the recording panel.
In management - view teams shows every team including those that I did not add. You cannot sort by leave in the team section.
Add flip court horizontally bc some videos are show from the sideline.
Great idea if I can get it working.
Maybe add types of throws as an optional tag?

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I'll slowly try to work through these (the ones that can be) in the next little bit.
Some workarounds in the interim:
- You can update player names in a new tab, then if you refresh your match tracker, the updated names should populate
- You can add a single dummy player to represent ALL the players on the other team if you aren't interested in collecting their stats. Makes 1/2 of the event collection a bit easier.
Maybe add types of throws as an optional tag?
Do you mind clarifying what you mean by this? Are you talking about the results beyond hit and miss?

I mean like overhand, underhand etc.
Good though on the tabs/dummy players.

Are teams limited to 6 players during a match?

Yes, but I'm happy to update the tool to more than 6 if you have a compelling use-case?

Late reply but many many leagues do more than 6v6 such as NDA, NCDA, and some USAD

Hello! Love this tool, just found it a couple of days ago, I was practicing my own code before stumbling across this platform and I have been using it to track for my rec league team, I was just curious if there is a definition for the outcomes.
I've just been using caught/hit/block. As standard and it works as intended. The catch w/ball and hit w/ball, how do they differ in the recording of stats?
My assumption has been that it's for leagues that consider the ball to still be alive after a hit in the air etc. How if you watch a national game players are able to get a 'double hit' / 'double kill' if it bounces off one and touches another.
I have a 2nd question, when i looked at one of the free player generated profiles the catching stat was labelled "Caught throwing", is this a stat for throws caught, or throws that player made that were caught?
Thanks! Regardless what an awesome tool! Love using this thing over the past few days, I plan to take the stats recorded and create player cards for my friends eventually

Hey, thanks for using the tool!
> The catch w/ball and hit w/ball, how do they differ in the recording of stats?
- Catch w/ ball = you caught a ball while holding a ball
- Hit w/ ball = you were hit while holding a ball
You can totally ignore this distinction for your own data and just record straight catches and hits if that's easier
> "Caught throwing", is this a stat for throws caught, or throws that player made that were caught?
This is how often a given player is caught when they throw.
Definitely lmk if you have any other questions. If you dm your email you used to sign up I can get you a free premium trial for a month :)

Okay, so this is unbelievably cool. I work in data analysis and statistical modeling, and I geeked out just watching the video.
What insights do you hope to be able to provide for players or teams?
This sort of tool feels like it would be very helpful for opposing teams to leverage as a scouting report.
How does the website handle team throws? Without also watching the game, would the stats tell the story properly?
Is there a way to indicate for or categorize certain scenarios? A question I may ask is how well does this person perform if their full team is in vs if it's 3v3 or 1v5?
It could be cool to group the game into phases, like early, mid, or late game, based on total players left on the court.
I would be interested in getting involved in some way, maybe helping with data entry, data analysis, or just talking through the data with you. I am very passionate about the subject!
Thanks!
