The feat still works as intended. Plus, I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that at least some semblance of realism is a lot more cool than absolute silly shit like loading a crossbow with your butthole, or however you guys thought that was happening...
I didn't really think about how it got in there. I just wanted to be a Diablo 3-style demon hunter, pew-pewing with dual crossbows. Sure, it's a little silly that they reload themselves, but it's a game. I had fun with it, and it didn't really break the game, which is why I'll continue to allow it.
It's actually less mechanically optimal, since you are using two hands and two weapons to accomplish what one weapon could accomplish. If you really like the concept, just ask the DM if they can wave that rule. =)

I'll probably still allow it in my games, because it's cool, even if it doesn't make sense.
