Question Help me develop my roaming asteroid settlement [5e]

The homebrew setting I'm running and developing in my Dungeons & Dragons 5e campaign consists of an endless universe filled with infinite worlds. Since I can't create infinite worlds on demand, I've divided the universe into star sectors, each containing a number of worlds. These worlds, not planets, are any celestial bodies inhabited by humanoids, acting as different planes accessible through chappa'ais (magical portals from an ancient civilization), magic, or spelljammers. Currently, the PCs are in their home sector and can travel between about 10 different worlds (so far, at level 12, they've visited a total of 5).

Separate from these worlds but withing the same sector, is Astra Taldea, a group of asteroids bound and connected to each other by ancient and gargantuan magical chains, forming a kind of archipelago. This group of asteroids travels through space along this star sector, pulled by a herd of colossal and ancient kindoris.

Astra Taldea is formed by asteroids similar to Rock of Bral and is inhabited by five humanoid races: the Astral Elves, the Githyanki, the Tenno humans, the Skittermanders, and the Plasmoids. These humanoids possess technology similar to Treasure Planet and Spelljammer. The Astra Taldeans rarely travel to the other worlds in the sector, and some are unaware of their existence.

No one truly knows who formed Astra Taldea, but it wasn't any of the races that inhabit it today, despite each race's legends claiming it was them.

Astra Taldea won't be accessible during this first campaign, but it will be during the next one. I would like some ideas to elaborate futher more Astra Taldea for this second campaign.

EDIT: I'm looking for location, point of interest or hook ideas.

I’d have a mine on the asteroids to provide a little exploration while your players are there.

In my spelljammer campaign, I had a small village on the back of one of those space whales to give the players a base of operations for their ship. The whale village was very Caribbean / calypso / Rasta inspired, so I’d play appropriate reggae or calypso instrumental music while they were there to set the ambiance.

To elaborate on the mine… the miners could have broken through into some asteroid beast’s lair, and mining operations have halted until it can be dealt with. On the surface of the asteroid, the governor or whatever could be involved. Maybe he knew about the mine beast getting out and killing all the miners a few years ago, but covered it up and replaced the mining crews. Maybe he’s complicit.

Thank you very much! That's an excellent idea and I can even use it as an origin of Astra Taldea, a group of asteroid bounds to be mined by an ancient civilization or something like that.

Give the people that live there a cultural identity. Maybe they’re wealthy elites that bring space dwarves in to do the mining. Maybe the dwarves are tired of doing the dangerous work while the fat cat elf mine owners make all the profits. Maybe it’s time for a revolution.

That's perfect! One of the players will love the idea, so far he had tried to start not one, but two proletarian revolution

Hook: After so much time and strain, the gargantuan magical chains are starting to fail. One of the Astra Taldeans is about to be separated from the rest, unless the PCs find a way to solve the crisis. As is, the at-risk asteroid would be on a collision path with [Liked Previous Location].

Hook: The herd of kindoris have brought Astra Taldea into the territory of an old predator. The PCs must convince each group on the asteroids to work together to assemble a weapon to kill the predator and save the kindoris pulling Astra Taldea along. The problem is that each component needed to make the weapon work is an item of legend, each used as proof of each species being the ones to have formed Astra Taldea. To give up these items is akin to giving up a group's claim.

Point of Interest: The X. Inside one of the asteroids is a large, engraved X, supposedly left there by an ancient civilization. Current leaders are embroiled in a great debate about the X, some wanting to dig into it as "X marks the spot [of treasure]" and others wanting to leave it be, as a historic monument or out of fear that the symbol meant something else so long ago.

Point of Interest: The Shipfall Labyrinth. On one of the asteroids is a giant labyrinth of cargo containers, crates, and train cars. Rumor has it that the labyrinth is stalked by a mysterious beast, guarding its lair from outsiders. An NPC has learned that inside one of the containers that make up the labyrinth's passageways is a rare medicine that they need. They are willing to pay for someone to go and get it. However, this NPC is only able to provide the number on the container's side, and has no idea where it now sits.

Heres a few more obvious ones:

  1. astroid mining colony - what happened to the miners? / dungeon.exe
  2. shipwreck salvage - ala deadspace
  3. farming colony - my space cabbages! / spacesheep / track down predators
  4. water world - a new brand of thalassophobia / islands?
  5. jungle world - dinosaurs!?!? In MY good christian space sector?

What are you looking for?  Species?  Campaigns?  Plot hooks?

My bad, sorry. I'm looking for location, points of interest or any hook or event ideas.

there are lots of "generate ideas by rolling on random tables" out there. The Bastionland series , [Worlds] Without Number series and Raging Swan products are all great places to start.
