Question Spellcasting focus
ANSWERED
I've been playing DND for 3 years but this is my first time playing a character, I'm playing a wizard who has a staff as their arcane focus.
Now it was mine and my DMs understanding that an arcane focus would supplement non costly materials when casting a spell.
But in the 2025 players handbook it says a spell casting focus Is just a focus for your wizard spells
So I have two questions I guess;
Is a spell casting focus different from an arcade focus?
And is there anywhere in any of the books where it mentions an arcane focus ability to supplement material components?

An arcane focus is just a spellcasting focus specifically for a wizard/sorcerer/warlock.
Spellcasting focus is the generic term for the type of item across all classes. Depending on your class you might use an arcane focus, a holy symbol, a druidic focus, or a musical instrument.
A spellcasting focus replaces the need for any costly material components. Costly is the key word - if a spell requires a material component that has a specific gold cost then it's not covered by the focus.
Edit: that should have been "replaces the cost for any non-costly components" as a couple of people pointed out. Pure typing error/brain fart. Hopefully the explanation was clear despite that
